Installation is a snap(dummy proof). The great Canon quality of this battery grip inspires confidence. Love having additional battery power. The buttons have the same feel as my 7D...a definite PLUS. But, my fav feature is how the grip acts as a balancer for large/heavy glass. Buy this you wont regret it.

Comments about Canon Canon BG-E7 Battery Grip for the EOS 7D Digital SLR Camera:
I have used an XSi for years with its Canon Battery Grip, so when I recently bought a 7D it was a no-brainer that the BG-E7 would be part of the set up.
The grip makes an already large-ish camera body an absolute beast, but in the process improves handling immensely, as well as extending the number of shots you can take.
I take a LOT of portraits, and the grip replicates the main camera controls in portrait mode; shutter release, main selector wheel, autofocus selection points, image review/zooming, AE Lock, Multi Function Button, and AF Start.
Quite frankly, and for this alone, the Battery Grip is an essential purchase, but when loaded with two batteries it also extends shooting time substantially. To give you an idea I was shooting at an event last night pretty much continuously for just over 4hrs, and the batteries are still at 70% charge!
Some people consider the added weight and bulk of the unit on the camera a negative, I don't as I feel the added heft and size actually improves handling and stability; your mileage may vary.
The only negative I can really come up with in relation to the BG-E7 is the price. Canon accessories are notoriously expensive, and there's an extensive and thriving market of 3rd party alternatives. I have to admit I was tempted by some of the less ruinously expensive options, but while I certainly wouldn't say BG-E7 is good value for money, I'm definitely glad I have it! LOL!
Oh, and just in case you're caught out in the middle of nowhere and your batteries die, the grip also comes with an extra internal carrier which will hold 6x AA's; I keep this with me at all times... just in case!

Once installed you forget it is an add on. 7D even gives separate charge states on each battery.
Comments about Canon Canon BG-E7 Battery Grip for the EOS 7D Digital SLR Camera:
I have Nikon cameras as well as the Canon EOS 7D for which this was purchased. It is the first accessory (closely followed by flash) that I purchase. I don't want to be worrying about changing batteries at the most inopportune time and missing a great shot. I also like the ease of going to portrait mode without having my wrist in a bind. It adds weight, but you get used to it in time.
Comments about Canon Canon BG-E7 Battery Grip for the EOS 7D Digital SLR Camera:
It provides more balance on your DSLR when shooting with heavy lenses. Duplicating the shutter button, it makes vertical shooting more comfortable. Using one or two batteries is great. You also have a tray that can be loaded with 6 AA batteries. However, if you have small hands, I would recommend that you try this out in a camera shop before you buy it.

Comments about Canon Canon BG-E7 Battery Grip for the EOS 7D Digital SLR Camera:
I've owned a Canon Rebel, XTi, 20D, 30D, 40D, 1Ds and now the 7D. I've gotten the grip for them all, except the 1Ds which has the grip built in. My hands are on the larger size and the grip makes the camera easier to hold and use. The addition of the second battery also keeps the camera going for a long time. The grip also makes the entire unit look more professional when shooting a wedding or other paid event. The grip also adds weight that helps balance lenses such as the EF 70-200mm f/2.8L IS. The only better option would be for the grip to be built in.
Comments about Canon Canon BG-E7 Battery Grip for the EOS 7D Digital SLR Camera:
I use it for my hobby and it helps a lot when I do vertical shots. The controls are laid out just like the horizontal control settings. The only things that I don't quite like is the distance of the dial, my hand is quite small and I have to stretch my thumb to reach the dial. Also it's [*] I don't know how long will it work, unlike my other grip for my 20D, it was made in Japan.

I sent my 50D to a Canon Repair Center and they said the battery grip was stuck to the camera?I hope they can get it unstuck. It was a great addition to my 50D and it will fit on my 40D.It gives it a more professional look, like my 1Ds Mark III.I also have the Battery Grip on my Rebel XT.I think I'm gonna add it to my 7D also.To the guy that said he wishes he could switch which battery to use to know which one to charge. You can run this with one battery. When that battery gets low, switch batteries and charge it.

Comments about Canon Canon BG-E7 Battery Grip for the EOS 7D Digital SLR Camera:
I've been using this grip for a couple of months now, and I have found that generally it does what I bought it for. That is, it extends the charge of the batteries inside the grip by about 30 to 50 percent over the charge of two batteries used sequentially. However, the bottom of this grip seems to be a bit too flexible for use on a tripod. There is actually a noticeable amount of flex in it.
I'm using the 24 - 70 mm L series lens, which is rather heavy.
I can still shoot sharp photos with it by using live mode, which raises the mirror, and using a timed release. So once I get my photo set up and focused properly, the camera quits moving before the shutter is released.
I'll be trying the Flashpoint battery grip to see if it is any sturdier.
Otherwise, the grip is fine for hand held shooting.

Comments about Canon Canon BG-E7 Battery Grip for the EOS 7D Digital SLR Camera:
I bought this for my 7D to use with my 24-70mm f/2.8L and 70-200mm f/2.8L IS lenses. The battery grip itself can hold 1 or 2 camera batteries and when used in the vertical position, has some of the same functionalities of the camera on the grip itself. The installation instructions were very clear and easy to follow. When connecting the battery grip to the camera the camera battery door has to be removed, there is a space on the vertical part of the grip that allows you to store it safely inside the camera itself.
I also purchased the Canon E1 camera strap which in my own opinion is very handy as the extra weight of the battery grip and lens makes it feel more secure and less risk of it leaving my hands! There were no instructions with the battery grip explaining how to attach the camera strap but it was fairly obvious and they can be found on the internet.
The battery grip never leaves my camera and I would only buy Canon if ever had to replace it.
Comments about Canon Canon BG-E7 Battery Grip for the EOS 7D Digital SLR Camera:
Most of Canon's prosumer DSLRs are relatively small. Good for a woman's hand but a little too small for a man's hand. Battery grips change that and also double the battery power (all accept 2 batteries). This particular grip, like other Canon battery grips, gives you a more solid feel, whether you use it hand-held or tripod mount. It is also easier to shoot vertically! My female photogs like battery grips as much as I do.
I wouldn't leaave home without it!
Comments about Canon Canon BG-E7 Battery Grip for the EOS 7D Digital SLR Camera:
Did not know if this was going to be everything that I had read about, but it is and I am glad I purchaced it. Now my 7D is complete. Adorama had the best price [...] Thanks guys.
Comments about Canon Canon BG-E7 Battery Grip for the EOS 7D Digital SLR Camera:
This is the first battery grip I have owned. I purchased it for my new Canon 7D. It fits very nice with the camera. Others said they had trouble with the shutter release being much different than the camera and requiring a much lighter touch. It is a little different, but after a few shots, I got used to the difference. No issues here as far as I am concerned.
The construction is very solid. The only minor point is that there seems to be a small gap between the grip and camera when it mounts. Hard to tell when you have it fully tight without overdoing it. Again, minor point.
It does make the camera pretty heavy. I don't see myself using it everyday, just as the situation calls for it (portrait studio work and a few others).
This is a great product and I look forward to using it in the right situations.

As expected. Good quality, easy to "install" and use. You get what you pay for! Reccomended.
Comments about Canon Canon BG-E7 Battery Grip for the EOS 7D Digital SLR Camera:
I have the BG-E7 vertical/battery grip on my Canon 7D. It feels great with my large hands. Otherwise, my fifth finger dangles in the air, and the camera, which is fairly heavy, feels much less secure when I hold it. It makes the camera much easier to use for vertical shots, because it keeps all the shooting controls on the top of the camera. It keeps my mind at ease when I have all day assignments, because it holds a second battery, and I won't run out of battery power, and have to stop to install another battery at a critical moment.I just wish all Canon's grips weren't so expensive. There is not a "universal size" grip that fits all Canon's professional cameras. I have to buy a new grip every time I upgrade to the next new model camera. As a professional for 23 years, and shooting digital for the past 10 years I've had to buy 12 vertical/battery grips. At [$] each, that an average of an extra [$]. However...since I use my cameras to pay my mortgage, I guess I have to use top quality equipment. Oh well...
Comments about Canon Canon BG-E7 Battery Grip for the EOS 7D Digital SLR Camera:
For me the grips create a more substantial object to handle. Both shooting and carrying is easier with the added real estate provided. Also longer battery use is good. I just got this grip and attached it to a new camera. After about a week of camera use, my camera suddenly stopped working. The grip had loosened and had detached power. I'll see if this is a recurring problem. Not hard to re-screw to tighten, though.
Comments about Canon Canon BG-E7 Battery Grip for the EOS 7D Digital SLR Camera:
The extra battery is nice, but it's the extra shutter-release that really makes this a must-have. The 7D is heavy enough to make this a necessity: this doesn't add that much weight, but certainly improves the ergonomics of taking portrait-oriented photos.

Comments about Canon Canon BG-E7 Battery Grip for the EOS 7D Digital SLR Camera:
So similar to the BGE6 (to fit EOS5D) but less expensive! Tilt shot is very easy with the grip.
In the other hand, it have the same default: both batteries are used at the same time. Finally, you do not have spare when batteries are low. I would prefer to switch battery 1 to battery 2, so I can charge battery 1 when I notice the switch.
Comments about Canon Canon BG-E7 Battery Grip for the EOS 7D Digital SLR Camera:
Travel shooting, nature pics and sports shots.
Comments about Canon Canon BG-E7 Battery Grip for the EOS 7D Digital SLR Camera:
Well built and a required add-on for anyone with medium to large hands. The camera body is really balanced alot better with the grip especially with telephoto lenses or any heavy L glass.
Comments about Canon Canon BG-E7 Battery Grip for the EOS 7D Digital SLR Camera:
Wow! Very solid construction and very solid connection to the 7D. The camera and BG feel like one solid piece together! This is much better than the old BG-E2/N when connected to a 30D/40D that I previously owned. Highly recommended.
Comments about Canon Canon BG-E7 Battery Grip for the EOS 7D Digital SLR Camera:
At last. A vertical grip that means you can use ALL the functionality of the camera in a vertical orientation. Previous grips have only had 2 buttons. If you meter and focus using the shutter button, no problem, but if you focus using (only) the AF-ON button, you were screwed.
