Comments about Flashpoint Flashpoint Vertical Battery Grip for the Canon 5D Mark II:
I was recommended this item by the teller when I tried to buy a vivitar brand. well for a difference of some what $12 you can buy not the vivitar but a similar Brand that works. This one does the job with the flaws that grip shooter conflicts with camera shooter. you have to calculate and carefully place the on switch in the middle in order to make both controls functional. but since this is not a normal setting with movement goes back to off or on which again will not let the camera shooter works. in conclusion kind of works rater spend the extra money.
Comments about Flashpoint Flashpoint Vertical Battery Grip for the Canon 5D Mark II:
I never buy 3rd party items. I only got this grip after a colleague's highest recommendation. I bought 3 of them, 2 for 5D2 and one for a 7D. Out of the 3 I only got 1 bad one. It sometimes fails to operate and when on disables the top dial on the body. This is frustrating when it happens in the middle of a wedding or news event. [...]I wish I'd had the money to buy the Canon brand ones but I didn't and I have to say that the other two I got work perfectly. I love the option to use the grips and to take it off when I do some jobs. I just noticed the price dropped. Nice.

1st one break within a week, 2nd one broke after 2 months. [...]This product is totally worthless.
Comments about Flashpoint Flashpoint Vertical Battery Grip for the Canon 5D Mark II:
my 5dii fell off a kitchen bench with the grip attached. several pieces of the cheap plastic shattered and it is now useless. the 5d11 is fortunately fine. not sure a proprietary grip would have fared any better, but the grip does feel pretty cheaply made. when i've spent so much on the rest of the rig i'm now inclined to go for the Canon version, though you could buy a few of these for the price of the Canon, so i'd probably still recommend it. just don't drop it!!

Comments about Flashpoint Flashpoint Vertical Battery Grip for the Canon 5D Mark II:
The price is very good compared to the Canon grip, however, there is a reason. [...] I installed the grip and tried it out. I found that when the grip is ON, several camera functions are disabled on the camera and may or may not be enabled on the grip controls. Example: Grip OFF - Normal ISO setting is possible using camera controls. Grip ON - Normal camera controls are disabled and ISO must be set by the wheel on the grip. Further examination showed similar problems with several other camera functions. [...]

The small body of the Canon 5D Mark 2 is not much to hold onto when fitted with a heavy lens. The additional grip area provided by battery grip helps to gain the leverage that you need. This grip is not as well constructed as the Canon version but I have not seen any functional differences between the 2 grips (I have 3 Canon grips).
Comments about Flashpoint Flashpoint Vertical Battery Grip for the Canon 5D Mark II:
I've only had this a couple weeks and it appears that it will be very handy when taking portraits etc. I like the fact that I have an insert to use AA bateries in case of emergency which are very easy to get and cheap. The downside is that it makes it tough to attach to my tripod because the battery grip hits one of the handles on the tripod head but the attachement that clips into the head can be turned to work still. The battery grip is a bit larger than the normal hand hold on the side but that is to be expected holding two batteries I guess. Overall a great purchase for the price.

Comments about Flashpoint Flashpoint Vertical Battery Grip for the Canon 5D Mark II:
I've purchased many third party grips in the past. I have a Flashpoint brand grip that I purchased two years ago for my 40D and it still fits and feels as good as new. My positive past experiences are what made me decide to purchase this product.
When the grip arrived, I noticed that it isn't packaged as a Flashpoint product. The packaging is labeled YXTM. The plastic felt cheap and was also slightly discolored. The slide wheel feels fragile and wobbles a bit. The shutter button requires a very firm press to engage. The grip doesn't fit well at all and is noticeably loose on one side even when fully tightened. I don't even know if I feel comfortable with it on there.
Side by side comparison with my previously purchased Flashpoint 40D grip, I can see that the 5D Mark II piece is much more flimsy and has cheaper materials. If it doesn't stack up well to another third party piece, I'd assume it'd seem horrible next to an actual Canon grip.
I'm going to go ahead and spend the money on the Canon piece. I've learned this lesson already with triggers and lenses, I guess I should've known better.
