I bought this for two reasons:

1) I wanted to have the ability to shoot vertically without straining my wrist for all day shoots
2) Longer battery life

I was skeptical at first when ordering this because of the price point with costing less than half the Canon brand grip. I'm glad my skepticism didn't get the best of me! I have a 7D and this thing works flawlessly on my camera. It reads both my batteries with no problem at all and having the controls at the grip near the shutter button work perfect. I was really impressed at the fact that there is a spot for the battery door from the camera just a little bit underneath of the contacts on the grip that are inserted into the camera.

This grip does add some weight to the camera but it's in the good sense. I've got bigger hands and without the grip, it was always a little hard to carry the camera comfortably by the grip alone. When I put this on, I'm able to carry the camera with my 430EXII flash and 75-300mm lens (just the standard one) around all day with one hand by the camera grip alone. Having the extra weight really helps with stability too.

The only thing that doesn't always work for me is the AA battery tray that comes with it. Which is fine considering the camera was designed for EP-L6 batteries and not AA. So I just put the tray in my bag as filler for no reason at all.

Overall, this is something you shouldn't hesitate to get. It increases your battery life for all day shooting, maybe even more, and adds a nice feel and weight to the camera; especially if you have bigger hands.

Ordered 2 grips for 2 7D's - one did not work at all when arrived - returned to Adorama for replacement,[...] - now, few month's later the other grip will fire the motor-drive continuously without pressing any shutter buttons, or may fire shutter at random, if at all - removed the grip and 7D works fine without it. Both units apx. 5 months of use almost everyday - decent cheap alternative to a Canon manufactured grip - although, I've also have a Canon manufactured grip for couple of years with continuous use and no problems.

The battery grip just arrived and I had it on my Canon EOS 7D in less than 5 minutes. Battery information for both batteries shows up in the menu screen and that is what I most wanted. Will always have plenty of battery power and can use AA batteries in the batt pack if needed. Just what I was looking for and reading other reviews helped a lot in my decision. Less than half the price of the Canon brand. AAAAAA+++++++ and thanks to ADORAMA!!

I have been using this grip on my Canon 5D MkII for about 10 months now. Overall, I have been pleased with the unit. However, once in awhile it fails when shooting vertically. I've found a firm slap seems to do the trick although in certain situations it means you miss a shot. That said, I still am pleased as this is not even half the price of the Canon grip.

I purchased this battery grip for my Canon 7d and the fit is perfect. It matches the camera's appearance so well that it is hard to tell that the camera and grip aren't a single unit. The grip has a seperate shutter button that makes vetical shots more convenient.
I use 2 Lithium ion batteries in it but it is nice to know that in a pinch here or overseas, I can still power the camera with 4 AA batteries, which are available worldwide. I travel overseas occassionaly and this alone is worth the cost of the battery grip for me as I don't have to worry about foreign voltages and voltage converters for the recharger.
I have large hands and the battery grip gives me more surface area to grip thus making holding the camera steady a little bit easier for me.
Overall I am very pleased with the appearance and performance of this Flashpoint battery grip.

I needed more firepower and alternate power source. I get what I need with this grip. Not only does it keep me shooting, it also helps my camera feel more balanced, even with my small hands. It does add weight, but the trade-off is well worth it to me.

I've been using the grip since I started using the camera. I took it off after a few weeks of shooting to see how it felt without it and immediately put it back on. I love the feel and the extra meat it adds to the bottom of the camera body. It enables me to place my hand at a really nice angle and distribute some of the camera onto the heel of my palm. Works great vertically as well. The materials used on the grips feel and look almost identical to the camera body. Even better than I expected after reading may reviews and watching a few videos.

The only weird thing, (which I DIDN'T add to the "cons" list because it's not really a big deal) is that the buttons and the scroll wheel feel slightly different from ones on the camera. It's really minimal and don't feel bad, just a little different. I stopped noticing it after about a day of shooting. Overall it's great. I haven't tried the Canon version yet for comparison but unless I get to see someone else's I won't bother. I would easily recommend this to anyone.

I have to admit I was a little hesitant to purchase a 3rd party battery grip, but after reading all of these great reviews here I took the plunge. I received the battery grip in about 3 days and I love it. I can not compare it to an OEM battery grip as I have never used one. This battery grip is nicely shaped for your hand and the construction is top notch. Do not hesitate to purchase this battery grip you will regret it if you do.

I purchsase my grip about a month ago and love it. I use my Canon 7D about 4 days a week and have already shot a few hundred photos with it. I have had no problems wiit so far and would buy it again if I had to. Saved a lot of money.

I bought two of these based on the favourable comments I read here. Big mistake. Although the build quality of the flshpoint is okay, it is not in the league of the Canon, as anybody who has tried the genuine Canon article will tell you. But, given the price difference, the finish is acceptable. The real problem is that the flashpoint does not interface to the camera's electronics properly, and I experienced erratic problems ranging from exposure errors to the flash not operating correctly - with both grips that I bought, and on 3 separate 7D bodies. Although these problems are erratic, and can be cleared by turning the camera off, they effectively render the product useless for any serious work.

A great value in a grip that works and feels great. I have just one issue with it... Due to slight differences between this grip and the Canon BG-E7, a Really Right Stuff l-plate will not fit on this grip. Specically, the grip is shaped slightly differently and the mounting hole on the bottom is about 1/8" off from the OEM (Canon) location.

I would still recommend the grip, but only if you aren't going to use a RRS or similar l-bracket.

Well I was really looking for a battery grip for my 7D - after shooting portrait sessions for more than an hour, my hand started to cramp up. So I got online and I was like, holy bejesus - the Canon one is 179$? I got this Flashpoint one instead. It looks like the real thing - matches your 7d really well (so you don't look like a cheapskate with your replica). It functions really well and the weather seal stays intact - I took it up for some snowboard shots last weekend. The grip also gives my big hands a place to grip when holding horizontal as well - so I leave this thing on full time. It gives a place for my pinky finger to rest so my whole hand is on the camera. It gives an even more solid feel to your already awesome 7D and helps when balancing a heavy lens on the front. I noticed this specifically with my 70-200mm.

The two things I have noticed is that the shutter button has a different feel than that of the Canon's and that the rolling wheel right behind the shutter release is rather loud. Both not really a big deal at all.

Don't spend the money on the Canon grip unless you have money to blow. This grip is excellent and you won't regret getting it.

This battery grip is a must prouct for anyone who takes a lot of video's. Video projects uses a ton of memory, plus a lot of battery power. For the price, you can't beat the Flashpoint Pro. Battery Grip for the Canon eos 7D. I love this product. You don't have to change batteries in the middle of a video project that your working on, and there is still enough battery power to take some still picture's.

I looked at virtually every grip made for my 7D before making this purchase. It fits the 7D perfectly and the build quality is just as good as the canon. In fact, they supposedly use the excat same mold as canon. I was not expecting this to be as good as it is since most of the time you can't beat original equipment.

I use this grip to stabilize my Canon EOS 7D and they really mated perfectly. Solid and steady. The light shutter button eliminates shakes and movement of my camera.
No more blurry pictures after I bought this grip.
I could not find anything wrong or weakness with this grip.

I just saved myself over $100 bucks buying this grip.
Feels solid, the rubber matches my 7D, additional finger grip is a plus.
I use OEM Canon battery and the camere shows the battery metering properly.
Have not try for the 6 AA batteries is a plus but never try to use it yet, but it is nice to have it as a backup.
Buttons feel nice. I highly recomend this grip over OEM CANON, save your self some money for the battery!

Use on 7d and fit and looks great. Rubber grips and fits hand well. I would have gave 5 stars but having one major problem, and this could be a defect just on mine since I've not seen it reported...
All thr functions work on grip perfect, but when the grip is in the "on" state, the front control dial on main camera stops working. Turn the grip to "off" state and the main front dail works again. Has anyone else had this problem? Other than this I love the product.

This is a very nicely built grip that replaces the Canon grip at a fraction of the cost. It comes with a tray for AA batteries and the original battery cover can also be stored in it. The grip material ensures a nice fit with my hand, and is rubberized. In a nutshell, it seems to have all the same functionalities as the original Canon, and the built is high quality.

At one half the price of the Canon brand it has all the features and looks and works just like the OEM.
It's a best buy for the buck. I can't think of any negatives to preclude buying it. I've been a photo instructor for over 20 years.

This is a great grip. I am a female photographer and was worried a grip would be to much for my hands, but I was wrong! It has a great grip which has helped me have greater stability of the camera overall. My only problem was getting the door of the battery compartment to fit in the grip. I have a 7d, it felt like I was going to break it if I pushed to hard. But not really a big deal as I just put it safely in my camera bag.

It works as advertised. The button for the trigger and the manual focus is a little different from the camera's position, but I have no frame of reference to see if Canon's version of this battery grip has them in the same position. Overall, great value for the price.

I read 2 reviews on Adorama before I bought this and they were both positive. I spent so much on the 7d that I couldn't afford the Canon grip. I was VERY hesitant about buying a third-party grip, but thought I'd give it a whirl. To be honest, I was also worried about an obnoxious logo that didn't look pro and advertised that I basically bought a cheap grip. The grip is great! There is no indication it's a third-party grip except a small sticker on the underside, so the only people who are gonna know are other photographers who actually pick it up! Fits camera perfectly. Has cool, sporty curves designed to contour your hand and feels great. No issues with power or communication with the camera. I just got this, so I can't tell you how it does over time, but it's fine now! The only issue I had was putting it on - the instructions said to take the Canon battery door off of the camera and slide it into the storage spot located on the grip - great idea, but I could not get it into the slot all the way and did not want to force it. The grip would not attach with the battery door slightly out of place, so I just put the door in the box that came with the grip. Thanks so much to the 2 ppl who left the previous reviews - that's why I was comfortable buying. Great price too!

It looks this came from the same mold as the Canon 7d grip. 2 minor cosmetic changes, one is invisible and the other is (in my opinion) an improvement over Canon grip. This grip looks like the Canon version in every way. I can only find 2 differences (other than manufacturer's label). The battery door does not have graphics on the inside (big deal). The simulated leather on the front has a molded protrusion that fits between your fingers, making it nicer to hold than the Canon version. Due to this feature I like it better than the Canon version. The camera shows the data from both batteries correctly. The grip fits the camera like a glove and is molded to fit the 7D. I like the geared (screw in mechanism) mount to camera (not just a plastic wheel with thread going into base of camera, like some other off brand grips), it does not come loose and is easy to tighten. For those wondering about the construction, the plastic it is made of feels like the battery door on the 7D (hard stiff). Cosmetically the grips matches the 7d body perfectly. Even the visible internals, switches and layout appear to match the Canon version almost exactly. The grip matches the Canon version so closely even the internal battery retaining mechanism looks identical. I am very happy with this purchase, the shutter release button feels identical to the 7D. The grip has the same buttons and controls as the Canon version and in the exact same position as the Canon version. The battery door is in the exact same position as the Canon version too.I used this to shoot several hundred pictures at a basketball tournament and had zero problems.I don't know what the real difference is between this grip and the Canon version other than the previous mentioned items and a Hundred dollar saving. I plan on keeping this on the camera, no need to remove it. This grip is an excellent value. It fits the camera very well. The hand grip material is "grippy", for lack of a better term.

The tactile feel of the buttons is great. The shutter button is "tighter" than the camera button. The other grip buttons offer the same excellent tactile feel as the grip's shutter button. The only "con" is that the "Main Dial" on the grip doesn't have as good a feel as the one on the camera and it is slightly nosier. There is no other criticism I can make.

At about half the price of the OEM grip, this is a very worthy alternative.
