Comments about Hähnel Hahnel Battery Grip with Infrared Remote for Nikon D40 & D40X Digital Cameras:
I gave this item 2 stars out of 5 for two reasons. Firstly, in the item description I believe the manufacturer states that it is designed with a lower center of gravity to improve handling. This led me to believe that the camera would stand upright with the battery grip attached. This is very untrue. The camera would not even hold up the weight of my 18-55 Vr which is by no means a heavy lens. This extremely annoyed me. If the grip was heavier I would have kept it.Second, this item is identical in build and appearance to the model that Targus makes. However, Targus included a vertical shutter on theirs and bundled it with an extra battery instead of a remote. I feel this is a much better deal for the same price. (The image for this item is not the same model. The one displayed has a vertical shutter. The Hahnel grip for the D40/40x/60 does not have one.)That all said, there's nothing horrible about this product. The color and feel of the plastic is slightly off but you can't expect it to match perfectly because its not a Nikon product. I was just hoping for a bit more for [$] so I returned it and spent the money on filters that I'll get much more enjoyment out of owning.

Comments about Hähnel Hahnel Battery Grip with Infrared Remote for Nikon D40 & D40X Digital Cameras:
The Hahnel HN-D40 battery grip is a great solution to the "smaller" size of the Nikon D40 series camera. I own a D40x and I have larger hands. I didn't buy the D40x to be tiny. I bought it because of the lower price. So I'm making my camera (full size) by adding this grip. The plastic and build quality matches my Nikon D40x perfectly. Fit to finish is outstanding. This grip does have the storage area to hold your Nikon battery door, after it's removed. And yes, unlike other grips, it comes with a nice instruction booklet showing you how to remove your Nikon battery door with ease. It does not have a second shutter button, and I honestly like that since these camera's aren't compatible with one anyway. I've owned another brand of aftermarket grip with the shutter button. But you had to operate them via remote access, and it was awkward. So for me, I wanted the Hahnel grip.
And if you don't already own the Nikon little remote control, this Hahnel grip comes with a Hahnel remote. You can't go wrong.
