Comments about Hahnel Hahnel Battery Grip with Infrared Remote for Nikon D40 & D40x Digital Camera:
This is a nice product. I noticed that there are two products on this website that say it's for the D40, but two different part numbers that indicate one's for the D40 and one for the D60. I have a D40 and a D5000; can't say for sure whether the D60 body is slightly different or not. The grip installs in a few seconds; you have to pop off the battery door from the camera but there's a groove in the grip itself to store it. I just use it with the AA battery tray (AA "mignon" is a European term for our AA batteries). It attaches and holds securely, and I like it because it gives me a little something extra to hold onto, and the camera and grip is still VERY light, much unlike my D2H. I like the extended shooting time it provides, plus all I need is a AA batteries, both alkaline and rechargeables work well.
The only negative I noticed is that it is NOT an exact fit around the edges, but to the casual observer that won't be an issue; most don't even know what a battery grip IS. It still looks good; color and finish match, it's just not a seamless transition from grip to camera body. But considering the price vs. a Nikon grip, I'm not complaining. I havent' tried the infrared remote, since I already have a couple of ML-L3 remotes, but then I didn't buy it for that feature in the first place. If you want to extend your shooting time and have the convenience of running off of AA batteries, this definitely does the trick!
