I use extra batteries when camping or on long hikes. Also good for weddings and the like. ALWAYS buy extra batteries and don't forget to charge them all. You won't be sorry. These batteries are pretty slick!

My family, including the kids, really loves to take pictures. I have a canon digital SLR as well as a kodak point and shoot and my kids have various brands that they fool around with. Our most recent purchase was a nikon coolpix for my daughter. I always buy a back up battery and have tried cheaper compatibles in the past. You are taking a chance that the battery will mess up your camera or just not work. I've had them get stuck in the compartment, get unexplicably HOT or simply not hold the charge. With the Nikon camera, I opted for the battery that is maufactured for the model and am happy with it. It's reliable, charges fairly quickly and seems to hold the charge for a long time.

I can extend my shooting time by having a second fully charged battery waiting to go. Using an original Nikon battery gives me the longest charge and reliability. I recently went scuba diving and took tons of underwater pictures. Rather than waiting to recharge the battery, I just switched batteries between dives and let the one charge while I took more pictures with the other one.
