Great camera! Its a semi-pro camera that is built to last for a long time! Controls just feel so right and it is very easy to make adjustments while looking through the viewfinder. The 5fps make sports photography a blast! Does reasonable well in the higher ISO ranges, I have had it up to about 800 or so and they dont seem to have much noise (grain) at all. I have had this camera for about 3 weeks and have done about 3000-3500 pictures already with it. I would take a EOS camera over the newer Rebel series any day of the week. So far, this is the closest I've gotten to purchasing a professional quality DSLR - such as a 5D or 1D. I'm really enjoying it so far. It feels great in my hands; and the controls are very accessible compared to say, a Rebel. I was concerned that going below 10MP would be an issue for me, but it turns out the difference is not significant enough to really bother me. Unless you rely heavily on cropping pictures down drastically, it's not any sort of issue.

I am starting to wonder if there is burned out pixel though, or if I just have dust on the sensor. That's so far the only concern of any kind that I've had with this body. Definitely a valuable purchase, and it will go many miles in my portrait/event/wedding photography business.

I use the camera by showing all the landscapes when I travel. The thing that is great about this camera is the fast shutter speed. I could capture things that I couldn't with a regular camera. The thing that is not so great is that this is the body only. I know that most people will buy separate lens either way, but there are also some people who are just a noob at dslr.

I upgraded to a 30D quite a while back from a Rebel XT. Really, the 40D isnt worth the extra money from this in my opinion. Awesome camera, durable, easy to use, and fast. Doenst get much better.

Recently on a trip to Alaska to photo the Brown Bears in KatMai National Park, The camera got very heavy after walking quite a distance.
As we sat (8 people) photoing the Bears, My Canon 30D was without question the loudest in the group. I got some stares from others but no comments.

I upgraded from the Canon 300 which I believe was canons first shot at a DSLR for less than [$].I used that camera for 4 years and it took great pictures.After retiring I decieded to get more involved in photography and beings I already had a couple lenses for the Canon I decieded to go with the 30D.That was the best choice I could have made!It is much easier to use, the pictures are so much better and my time on touching up the pictures I take in photshop has been cut in half.Excellent camera and I would recommend it to anyone.

I use this camera for business and as a hobby. I purchased it last april and have taken over 10,000 images. Other than cleaning the sensor about 10 times I never had an issue with this camera. I have a 10d as a back-up which gets little usage. I guess Canon will replace it in the fall and I will use that opportunity to buy another one at a good discount.

My first step into the digital image world. I had 3 EOS1V's and 1 EOS3 and a LARGE amount of lenses. Unfortunately so lowly thief decided he needed them more than I did. So far, a good experience. Easy to use for those either familiar with Canon's or the XT and XTi. Feels sturdy and solid in your hand. The biggest gripe is the on/off button is not well thought out. Shooting outdoors in the cold while wearing gloves, makes using the switch difficult. Should have been a simple push button, or lever/switch like on other Canon's.

The menus are easily accessible and easy to navigate. The picture functions provide a lot of custom flexibility, with a way to return to default with our resetting the whole camera. The camera body itself can be a bit bulky if you are not use to this type of camera body. Otherwise, this camera is very well built.

This is a excelent camera that won't dissapoint you. Oficially is a semi-pro camera, but a lot of professional use it everyday because of the great results that it can produce. In the right hands, the 30D delivers as good images as it gets.

If you are choosing between the Canon Rebel XTi (400D) and the 30D, get the 30D: is more rugged, solid, durable and the more intuitive interface allows you to make changes faster and easier before that magic moment is gone forever. The 10 Megapixels of the XTi won't give you better images and just will fill your memory cards faster.

If you have a 20D, then the upgrade may be worth it, may be not: with the 30D we basically are talking about a bigger and better quality screen (making it a nicer camera to work with, believe me), a spotmeter (very handy), a bigger buffer (allowing more photos in burst mode) and you will have Picture Styles (a feature inherited from it's bigger brother, the Canon 5D, giving you greater control over the fine details of the images). Your call.

If you are considering the Nikon D200, both (Canon 30D and Nikon D200) are very capable cameras, try both at a local store and decide witch interface feels better for you. For me, the better image quality (less noise) of the 30D in low light conditions was the deciding factor. However, if you already have Canon or Nikon lenses, then your decision is already made: stay with the brand you are using, because the differences between the 30D and the D200 are not enought to justify a jump to the other side of the fence.

If you are waiting for the 40D, it's your call, but it may be months away and it will be more expensive, while you may get now the 30D, an excelente camera that you will love (I am writing this in march, 2007).

Warning: The 30D is so good that you will need good lenses to unleash it's full potencial, otherwise the lenses will limit the image quality. The kit lenses are OK if you are learning, but trust me: you will notice the difference when you buy better lenses. You may consider the Canon 50mm f/1.8 EF lens: is light, a bargain at only US$80.00, excelent optics and superb for portraits and low light. If you have a bigger budget, the Canon 17-55mm f/2.8 IS USM EF-S lens is a great choice (about US$1,100.00, an outstanding zoom lens with exquisite optics and Image Stabilisation, not to be confused with the lower quality Canon 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6 EF-S kit lens!)

Bottom line: You can't go wrong with the Canon 30D! I love mine. Highly recomended!

Updgraded from a DRebel, and hands down I'd recommend the 30D to a friend. Much heavier duty construction, big LCD, more AF points is a big plus too. Also really like having the spot-meter and mirror lock up. Everything about it is a big step up from my Rebel.

I love the 30D so much I have two of them and usually carry both each with a different lens. It has great features and the feel of the 5D without the cost. The 30D feels soooo much better in hand than the smallish and cheap feeling Rebels. Excellent for wildlife, action, macros, landscape, etc. I have taken mine all over the world without disappointment. The batteries last an amazingly long time. The setting are so much easier to change & adjust than with the new Rebel XTi.

I really do love this camera. This is my 1st dslr and was intimidating at first, but if you do your homework it can produce awesome pictures. The only reason I do not give it 5 stars is the price. There are now higher resolution cameras for lower prices, although they lack the rugged build.

I bought my 30D as a back up to my 1D. It took me a while to start using it because I was so used to my 1D. I keep my 1D attached to my Just Right camera bracket with a Lumedyne light. I started grabbing the 30D for quick studio shots and after a while I have become dependant on it. The 30D is light weight, easy to use and yields accurate colors and high quality images. I normally shoot Jpegs and can produce prints up to 30x40's without any visible signs of being pixilated. It has quickly become a favorite of mine for its manual settings and interchangable lenses. The internal light meter has proven accurate and dependable. I would recommend the Canon 30D to any amature for the "cheater" settings and any pro as a lightweight backup camera.

The EOS 30D is an awesome digital camera that excells in quality, ergonomics, and features to handle a very wide spectrum of shooting conditions.
The more one uses or reads about this camera you realize how great and how diverse one can adjust for varies shooting requirements, let alone incorporate a fair amount of customization into the menu features and even download unique custom menus from Canon.
To fully appreciate its features be certain to read a few books specifically dedicated to the EOS 30D. Well worth the time to assist in learning what each feature provides, then you can best select the ones for your individual shooting style.

My 20D wore out so I called [...] and bought the 30D. I tried going back to my D60 backup, but the controls on the new cameras are so much more convenient, I couldn't stand using my old D60! The 30D claims a longer shutter life of 100,000 cycles. That isn't that much longer than my 20D lasted, but every bit helps. Having to buy a new camera every year gets expensive, but the cameras are getting cheaper. I hate the big new display. I thought it would be great, as I have eye troubles. The older ones give an accurate display if you tip them a little, but the 30D is never accurate! You get the same, bright useless view from all angles. However, expose it right and you have a good picture. The built in flash rarely exposes right, nor does my 550ex. The TTL is bound and determined not to over expose and makes the pictures too dark. I almost always manually expose with flash and usually without the flash. Most of my shots are with studio strobes. NOT having eye-controlled focus is great. Autofocus acquires quicker without it and you can easily hold the camera over a crowd for a quick shot. Low-light performance is amazing. Grain is very good at ISO1600. Use that with a stabilized lens and get some great shots in places you can't use a flash. There are controls to modify the nature of the pictures. I don't use them and never will. You can do all those things with the computer if you aren't fond of reality.I had the 20D rebuilt. My wife retired her D30 and swiped the 30D. She loves it and she loves the fact she can shoot for days without changing a battery.

As a die hard Pentex K 100 user itwas hard to go digital! But after 6 months of use I love the cannon 3oD. Once I made the transition to digital- after some slight struggles- I find this camera easy to use and love the automatic setting as well as being able to have manual control. We own the Kodak 14 megapixel camera and the canon 30d gives better results and much faster. Kodak is a great studio camera but not for a fast paced event. Its also heavier for you hands to carry. I use my Canon 30D with the Freewire from quantum and thats all i carry. the results are amazing.

Purchased this camera as first foray into digital SLRs after 30 years of film camera work. Found this model to be all that I could ask for, though I found it essential to consult the pocket-sized user card. First use was in shooting 85 "portraits with Santa" at company Christmas party, where it performed flawlessly with my Novatron light kit, and Epson Pict-Bridge capable printer. Went from perfect photo to perfect print in 45 seconds--with less than an hour of equipment familiarization.

I've only used this camera for several weeks, and look forward to taking it on our trip to Maine this month. With one reading of the manual, I'm able to find most of the settings I need. Controls and menus are well laid out. I purchased the EF 28-135 IS lens, and it seems to be a great fit for a walking around lens. Picture resolution at 800 ISO is great for what I have used it for so far. Low light focus has been fast and accurate. I hesitated on spending this much cash, but well worth the price. One of the features that sold me was the metal body. It feels right in my hands and balences nicely.

The Canon 30D is a fantastic camera, with great image quality and a good build quality (depending on the lens you use). It definately is a professional grade camera, but is an unlikely choice for taking around on vacation due to its weight and size with lens attached.

I found that it is worth investing in a number of large (4GB) memory cards, since shooting pictures at the highest quality setting quickly fills them up. Also, although the build-in flash is good, it is worth buying an additional flash, which will add some clever tricks like projecting a red grid over your subject when focussing needs some help in low-light situations.

One thing to note is that the camera controls are sometimes complicated, and I found myself looking through the manual quite a few times to understand why it did not do what I wanted it to do. Possibilities are virtually limitless, but this also means that you can mess things up if you get some setting wrong somewhere. Thank goodness for the 'auto' setting.

Finally, with the new 10MP Digital Rebel, the choice which camera to buy may be difficult.
