Comments about Canon Canon EOS-40D Digital SLR Camera with 28-135 IS USM Lens, 10.1 Megapixel, 3" LCD Screen:

I have had this camera for a little over a year now and have shot around 15,000 images. Its fast, versatile and very easy to use. I shot film for years and I am glad I made the switch to digital with this one. It is very solidly built and has a fantastic feature set.

A couple of my favorite things.
1. Mirror-lock up. I typically use this for quiet operation, or for zooming in with the LCD for ultra fine focusing when on a tripod.
2. 6.5 fps. Fantastic!
3. 3 programmable presets on the main dial. I set up a couple of my most used general configs for fast access, then fine-tune from there.
4. Virtually zero shutter lag
5. Beautiful sharp photos even in low light as JPG, RAW or JPG+RAW
6. Very solidly built.

A couple things I don't like (but they are minor).
1. Built-in pop-up flash seems a bit fragile.
2. 1.6 crop factor

Overall, this is just a fantastic camera. After the 50D came out, I wondered if I should have waited...but after checking out the 50D a couple times, the differences are not worth it...and in a few ways the 40D may even be superior.

If you are serious about a good DSLR, get this!

I bought this camera about 8 months ago moving up from the Rebel XT. I love the camera after shooting several thousand photos. It fits my hands comfortably. It feels strong and well balanced. I like the easy access to controls at the right index finger. I can't say anything negative.

I use this in my personal life and semi-professionally doing contract freelance work and also portraiture. I had a canon powershot before and this is my first dslr. I found it very easy to use. Paired with some good glass I've gotten some beautiful photographs and it has yet to disappoint me. It can get a little heavy after you add other gear such as external flash, bracket, etc. but so worth it and at an affordable price if you can't yet afford the higher-end dslr's. A swivel lcd would be nice but not necessary and the pixles are just fine for large prints. You won't regret this purchase...I've had it over a year and LOVE IT! Just PERFECT for me :)

I had heard that this was a great camera so I decided to give my Rebel XSi/450 to my daughter and bought this one. All my Cannon lens work well with this body and I am very glad I made the step up to this camera

Don't let the lower megapixel count fool you, the shots I have taken look as good or in most cases, better, than the XSi. Don't get me wrong, I loved the XSi but this camera feels much better to me and the pictures are outstanding

It was time to replace my original Rebel and Tamron zoom. Al at Adorama helped me make a final decision based on my needs. A 50D would be nice but a 40D fit my budget. My ordered arrived well packed and the very next day without any additional charges. Two days later I found the same kit for $40 less. Adorama imediately credited my card. I will NEVER buy from any other source.

Comments about Canon Canon EOS-40D Digital SLR Camera with 28-135 IS USM Lens, 10.1 Megapixel, 3" LCD Screen:

I have only had the camera for a month, so I don't believe that I have fully cracked the code on how to get the most out of it in all situations; however, I have been very pleased with what I have been able to do. With an 28 - 135 "kit" lens, I am very pleased with the camera's range, image quality, ease of use and feel. While there are multiple settings that can be altered on a per shot or more sustained basis, the controls are easy to use and information is displayed clearly. I particularly find the top lcd screen to be very handy for checking and changing settings on the fly. The negatives I read about limitations on "live view" shooting with this camera are way overstated in my opinion, and far outweighed by overall quality, as well as the look and feel of the camera. Two days after purchasing the camera, we took a trip to Costa Rica, and had a great time capturing a wide range of images. My kids (teen, pre-teen and post-teen boys) also joined in the photo shooting, with great results and real enthusiasm for what they could capture.

More Bang For Your Buck Than The 50D

Comments about Canon Canon EOS-40D Digital SLR Camera with 28-135 IS USM Lens, 10.1 Megapixel, 3" LCD Screen:

There are only two negatives I have encountered with this body:
1) Occasionally, it doesn't automatically meter when half-pressing the shutter button, which may result in a poorly exposed image if you didn't meter manually
2) ISO 1600 shows a fair amount of chroma noise even with High ISO Noise Reduction enabled

Other than that, it's been fantastic: very solid construction; easy to use controls (once you learn them); My Menu is especially useful; great image quality; fast continuous shooting; just all around a solid performer.

In comparison to the 50D (from other reviews I've read), the 40D is actually LESS noisy, has better dynamic range, and doesn't require a high-end lens to get the most detail out of the sensor... so why pay more for less?

The kit lens is pretty decent, providing good sharpness, with the image stabilization working well.
However, on a crop sensor body like the 40D, it simply does not back out far enough for me: I find myself wishing constantly for a lens that starts at 17mm on the wide end.
Also, the aperture range is not great, with more than a full stop variability from wide to telephoto.
If you're like me and want to do some wide-angle or indoor photography, I recommend NOT getting this kit (40D + 28-135) and instead getting the body by itself and one of the EF-S lenses that start at 17mm (or the 17-40 f/4L if you can afford it!)

Comments about Canon Canon EOS-40D Digital SLR Camera with 28-135 IS USM Lens, 10.1 Megapixel, 3" LCD Screen:

WOW! Great camera for the price tag. I moved up from a Rebel(original). Canon knows how to make a camera for a photographer. This camera is solid, a nice weight keeps it steady and sure in your hands. The controls are well laid out and simple to use after about 30 min of playing. The customizable menus are great, what a time saver.

I use this for landscape photos and my nephews. It's solid enough for the wilderness and the image quality is outstanding even though it's only 10.1 mp, my only complaint. Once I saw the images I really couldn't complain much, I just think that with the competition, Canon should have increased mp's. Photographing my three nephews....outstanding, this camera is fast and silent, focus' quick and at 6.5 fps I don't miss an expression.

Comments about Canon Canon EOS-40D Digital SLR Camera with 28-135 IS USM Lens, 10.1 Megapixel, 3" LCD Screen:

This is a rugged performer with enough bells and whistles for the average pro. The quality of the images that it produces are top shelf, and for the money, there is not a better camera in its class. The 40D is simple to use, the menu system takes about a week to learn, and any cam that can shoot 6.5 fps will be around for the long haul.

I have personally found that the autofocusing system of the camera is about 70% accurate, and the images that it produces generally require a bit of sharpening. That being said, both are relatively easy fixes via the cam or external software. All in all, the Canon 40D has the most bang for the buck via any dSLR on the market today!

I switched from the Pentax *ist D and I can't be more happy. The 40d is fast and rock solid. Its menu system is big but easy to learn. I really like the MY MENU, great for getting somewhere fast. Great images with low noise. I just got the Canon 50mm f/1.4 and it rocks on this camera. My Pentax did me good and its long in the tooth now and what a difference 3 years makes. If your camera is anything older then a Canon 30d then get the 40d you will be happy. If you got the 30d get the 40d, its a good upgrade that doesn't cost to much. If you got the 5d the 40d will give it a run for the money.

You will not be disappointed. in fact there are numerous reviews about this camera being as good if not better in IQ (Image Quality) as the Canon 5d. And I see them as being true! Not much more to say except this one is a home run for sure...

Just upgraded my XTi to the 40D. Very impressed with the camera, its very fast and easy to customize to the users taste. If you do any tripod work you will really like the live view which makes sharp focusing of telephoto lenses with a teleconverter a snap. Its a super deal for all the features the camera has. Favorite features: bright view finder, 6.5 fps (you'll never miss a smile again), customize user menu, live view for telephoto shots, picture quaility is great (no big change over XTi), nice firm feel to the camera. You won't be disappointed if you like shooting fast action or like to use a tripod all the time.
