Wonderful camera and incredible high ISO performance. I'd purchase again... I just wish the focus was faster. I've found it fast enough for weddings though. I usually have a 580ex2 in the shoe when it's dark, so the focus assist beam helps.

This camera is my go to for 99% of my professional work which includes everything from sports and portraits to commercial and weddings. Very fast response, easy to adjust exposure settings means you don't have to push any additional buttons to set your exposure or bracket the settings. Good balance, long battery life, easily interchangeable lenses and backed up by a great assortment of accessories. Next time you see a sports event on TV, check out all the white Canon lenses being used by the Pros.

I have had Canon F-1, EOS, 20D, 50D and now the 5D II. This is the finest camera I have ever owned. The only drawback is not having a built in flash for that one or two times you need it.

It is my first full frame camera. The image quality comes from this camera is amazing. The quality of the video produced by this camera is much better than the regular video camera. The EF 24-105L lens goes very well with this camera for walking around. For shooting at low light, any zoom lens doesn't work well anyway. A fast lens, i.e., 50mm F1.4/F1.2L, 85mm F1.8/F1.2L, would be a good solution.

The word good does not do justice to the image quality. I also find that it is a complicated camera, but using Canon products for most of my photography life the process is consistent.

I have only had this camera a couple of weeks and there is a lot to learn about it. I have only scratched the surface, but after one Glamour photo shoot, I am impressed. I consistently get sharper images from this camera than I do with my Nikon D700 with pro glass. There are a few annoying things that I don't like about it where the Nikon is better like the location of the on/off switch and some other things like the placement of the shutter release button but I will accept that to get sharp images.

I have not used it for shooting video, and probably will not.

It took a little while to get familiar with the menus on the camera,and also the supplied software took a little getting used to, but all in all I believe I am converted to Canon!!

I am so happy that I made the decision to purchase this one. I absolutely love this camera. The camera is sturdy, easy to use, and makes me feel so much more confident shooting with it. I shoot on manual setting only, rarely I'll use Apeture priority,adjustments are fast and easy with the exception of the custom functions,this part takes a little getting used to. great proven camera and a very nice lens. Beautiful image quality.

It was finally time to upgrade my trusty old EOS D60 and I did a ton of research around whether to get a 5DmII or 7D. In the end I went with the 5DmII because of the full-frame sensor and therefore the ability to shoot wider angles with my existing lenses (some of which date back to my film days).

This is great for anyone who shoots on a tripod. Landscape, architecture, travel, it's astonishing how well it works in little to no light. High ISO is outstanding, 3200 is still usable. Smaller RAW file options are a nice touch for those that don't need 21mp shots but still want to keep RAW. The massive screen in the back is great for chimping details in the field. Video is an outstanding option to have when you need it.

However, autofocus. It's a good start. The center point is pretty much the only one that can be called useful. I wouldn't rely on it for a wedding when things are moving fast and furious in darker conditions. But if you have time to set up your shot and time to chimp the focus, it'll do well enough. I haven't had too many shots ruined by the AF, but there have been enough that I feel compelled to bring it up and downgrade it to a four star camera (call it a 4.5, just off from perfect)

However, I went in knowing that the AF wasn't going to be the best and still find the camera overall to be fantastic for my uses. I would buy it again today if I was looking to upgrade from a cropped sensor to full frame.

Price vs. Features are a real winner with this package. I've used other brands and other models of Canon, but this is the best combination for overall use. Rarely need to change lenses, the 24-105 Zoom covers 90% of my shots. If you want to travel light and be ready for anything this is the one for you!

I purchased this camera after buying the 300 mm f/2.8L lens, which I use to take photos of surfers. My Canon 40D didn't have the resolution to match the lens. The image quality of the 5D MkII, along with the 300mm lens is incredible. The whole photographic experience is improved. I bought the kit because I wanted to have an "L" lens as my normal lens.

If you've been thinking about buying this camera, go for it! You won't be disappointed.

Since this was my first SLR (I've done 5 years of time on my Olympus ultra zoom, pushing it to it's limits, saving money for this one), I had done quite a bit of research and comparison between the various brands with similar configuration. And I am happy I bought this one. It works perfectly fine even at high ISOs. which was also one of the reason the 24-105mm F/4L IS USM won me over 24-70mm 2.8L USM, as I could use faster shutter speeds and still get good pictures. That was important because with a full frame, you are going to be closer to a wide angle than on a crop sensor camera. So for Newbie SLR owners like me, you would also definitely need a good telephoto zoom lens to go with this camera. The 100-400mm F/4.5 - 5.6L IS looks like a nice candidate for that job.

This is by far the best Camera on the market. Yes the price is a little much, but if you complain about the price, you shouldn't be buying this camera in the first place. First real test for this camera was a day of shooting in Death Valley and took some of the best shots of my life. Shot a high school football game in less than perfect conditions over the weekend, but by looking at the pictures, you would never know it. Bottom line: Forget the price, it is well worth it.

I took the giant leap and went from a Nikon D300 with a couple of pro lenses and bought the Canon EOS 5D mkII with the 24-105L lens.
I should have done that a long time ago! The image quality is stunning and don't need any afterwork. At low light the details are fantastic - even at ISO 6400.
The only thing to mention is that the shutter sound is not as smooth as the Nikon and a also bit slow at 3.9 fps.
Go for it - you won't be disappointed.

I was very hopeful with this camera. I read many many reviews and really anticipated the arrival of this 5d mark II. However I am a 5d owner already and my own tests between the two cameras did not show me enough of an improvement in image quality and especially focusing ability in semi-low light and low contrast scenes to warrant the upgrade right now. I couldn't even get a quick focus from the central focus point off my daughters smooth cheek in a well lit room. I would have liked to use this camera for weddings, but low light situations would have always required my 580 EX flash to facilitate accurate focus lock. When I went from a 20D to my 5d I was hugely impressed. If I were making a similar trade up from a 20-40D to the 5d mark II I would also be greatly impressed. Basically I don't see enough improvement in noise levels between 5d and 5d mark II at the 1600 ISO (with no noise correction) between the two bodies, to warrant the price (I bought the kit). However, ISO 3200 on mark II is pretty impressive for sure. I'll wait one or two more years for a faster focusing mechanism and more AF points before I upgrade. I would recommend the camera if making a bigger leap than 5d to 5d mark II.

The 5D combined with a Canon "L" series lens provides an image of unsurpassed quality. The camera is easy to use and ergonomicly designed. The shutter speed and ISO range allow for every possible shooting situtation. Everything about this camera far exceeds my expectations. The exception being, a slow motor drive and manual focus in the video mode. I would definitely recommend this camera as the alternative to the higher priced full sensor SLRs.

I just upgraded from a Canon Digital Rebel XT and the images are incredible.

I still love my Rebel and will continue to use it as a backup or second camera, but the quality of the images that the 5D Mark II produces are just amazing!

It is a great deal heavier, but worth every ounce.

This being my first digital SLR I am just blown away; it beats film all to pieces. I was a little irritated that my old 430EZ flash that I used on my 1N won’t work with this camera, it over exposes images by at least 2 stops, so there is a new flash in my future. However, I'm taking tons of pictures without the flash, even indoors as 3200 ISO pictures look unbelievable and I'm hand holding at 4.0 - 1/40 and 1/25 of a second with pretty darn good results. I'm not shooting anything professional so these images are more than good enough for me not to mention pictures look better without direct flash anyway. Live View was a bit of a disappointment for me and I will only use it when I am unable to easily put my eye to the view finder. I don’t care for the way you have to focus the camera in Live View. Otherwise I just love the camera. On a side note I did try to recreate the black dot phenomenon by taking pictures of Christmas lights but wasn’t able to, it’s a moot point as Canon has released a firmware fix. Love mine!

I had to rent this camera for unexpected shoot and I was curious how it would compared to my Canon 5D. I rented even the same lense 24-105 as I have. To my surprise the Mark II felt exactly as my 5D and it was very easy to get use to work with it. Quick focus seams to find immediately object you need to be sharp (eyes, tree, vertical line on architecture...), AF points are well located and there is no need to add more of them. Canon has them right! What I appreciate the most are 3!!! options to shoot in RAW. In most cases I don't need to go fully 21 mpx and to deal with 20mb+ files so smaller alternatives are blessing (thank you Canon for this!).
Camera comes with new Zoom Browser that YOU NEED TO INSTALL because RAW images created with Mark II are not recognized with older Zoom Browser software (even Photoshop "refused to cooperate"). This new software aimed at professionals is another great improvement. Period!
5D Mark II became my camera of first choice and my older 5D as a reliable back up.

40 years ago I started with a Speed Graphics 4x5 and Hasselblad 500. Eventually moved to 35mm and bought a 20D many years ago. Waited to a reasonably priced high quality digital. Bought the 5D II with the 24-105. Very sharp photos. This is far superior to the 50D for not much more money. Planning on buying a 100-400 L lens next year. Also bought a Speedlite 430ex II for this camera. Best camera (and kit lens) for the money. My friends with old 5D are considering the upgrade. [...]

These are my views on my first few days of use. Although there are few issues mentioned with the sensor black points but, I have not seen any though. The build quality is not convincing for $3K camera, but the pictures are excellent and the camera is an excellent value for the money. It would have been nice if the ergonomics was much better. However, no complaints the camera gives an excellent pictures and is easy to shoot for professionals and semi professionals. The AF points- lot of people argue are less compared to a competition but, I found it more than enough and the AF did well in almost all conditions except few instances when it was searching, I have only shot JPEG's and it seems to be good, I would not take RAW because I can use the power of the camera to do quick pictures with good results with this camera. The best part was I saw the camera output direct without any processing and was as excellent as I wanted it to be. Today, no other camera gives you such an excellent value for money.
