Purchased this camera to use at work - documenting test apparati; showing test results; taking pictures of installations to share with customers; etc. Works quite well for that. If you need "professional" macro capabilities - look to an SLR. [$]

Purchased this for a friend. Canon's A-Series cameras are very nice cameras. On the one hand, they're "nothing special" (i.e., don't win the spec-sheet race), but on the other hand, they are small, solid cameras that make it easy to take good pictures. Thanks Canon, for keeping the optical viewfinder, too!

second camera thats almost as versatile as our more advanced ones. it also takes pictures just as well for blowup use.

Great travel camera...lightweight, flexible, good low light performance in no flash environments...using AA batteries a real plus in out of the way locations.

I use the camera in a Canon DC-12 underwater housing for snorkeling, but I keep it in my camera bag for quick snaps when I'm otherwise armed with a long lens. Photos, above and below the waterline, are tack sharp with excellent exposure.

2700mah batteries go quick. i have plenty so it is not a concern but it will be for others if they are not used to having so many batteries on hand.

great manual functions. simple as can be for the basic user, yet complex enough for a pro.

This little camera is great. HDR Photography is a snap, night photography, yes. Image stabilization is very effective, accessories such as underwater housing can be purchased.

For batteries, pick up some NIMH AAs and you'll be set. (carry spares)

Fits comfortably into a back pocket (for men) till you sit on it.

This also makes a great spare to carry along with a DSLR.

Small size and low weight (but not the smalest/lowest on the market).
Can be taken everywhere/anytime (without the plan for taking photos, just to not regret missed opportunity).
I would recommend A570IS, but one should bear in mind the camera limitations (popular camera at moderate price).
One should not count for ISO above 400 at FULL resolution (the noise level is lower at lower resolutions). Attached sample is taken with ISO-800.
Noise level can be estimated after clicking on miniatures.
Picture barrel distortion can be observed while making documents copies.

Takes clear, sharp pictures. Not that fast, get an SLR for that. but for an inexpensive point and shoot, this takes great pics. Image Stabilizer allows for great shots in low light handheld without a flash.

This camera takes decent enough photos for the price and has pretty good features, but the battery consumption is unbelievable. We use 2500 mAH rechargeable AA batteries and the "low battery" indicator light flashes within an hour of use (and these batteries have been cycled many times, so we should be getting the full performance out of them). We carry AA alkaline batteries as a back-up, and with a new set of those, the "low battery" indicator starts flashing within 10 minutes. This makes the camera very difficult to deal with.

I did a lot of research on digital cameras before i bought this one. I had an old Olympus that was a real Road Warrior, but it was just too big and clunky and didn't have a lot of the new functions that I was looking for. Since I am not a professional photographer, I really didn't need something that had too many bells and whistles. I really wanted something that would travel well, takes great pictures that would create great prints. This camera does all of that!!
It is easy to use right out of the box. Takes great pics. The lag time is a little slow for action photos, but I haven't taked the time to play with it and find the right setting for quicker shutter speed.
But the biggest bonus (aside from the great 4x optical zoom) is the video capabilities. Spend the monry that you are saving on this camera andbuy a 2gb professional speed memory card. this camera takes GREAT video. It will hold almost 45 minutes of video. Same great optics as thestill photos. It was exactly what I wanted on my recent trip to New York and Boston. Great videos of whales and baseball games. My friends can't believe that this little camera takes all of this. They are hinking about buying one and not taking their video cameras on trips.
If I had 4 thumbs, I would give this camera 4 thumbs up.

I just wanted a small pocket camera. This Canon is a lot more. The panorama feature is fool proof. I sticthed 12 shots and they are perfect together. The large screen is great for my tired eyes.
