This was a big step up for me from a Canon Digital Rebel(300D). So far it has exceeded my expectations. The controls are similar enough to the 300D that I didn't struggle too much. The image quality has been very pleasing, altho I still prefer to manually focus rather than auto-focus.
I specifically bought this model for the movie feature, but I haven't had much time to play with it. At first blush it looks like it will do what I intended for it to do.
The only "problem" at this point is that the files are so large (I work in raw) that I have to split up the backup CD's into several burnings for one session.

would like to be able to use LCD screen to frame and shoot in all modes --especially in automatic mode

I am a new DSLR user. Have had the T1i for almost a month now and have taken close to 1000 pics. The stock lens is the only lens I have used thus far, but we have taken pics with our children, a wedding, for our store, and just random pics. The ISO levels are useable at 3200 for 8x10 prints when in RAW (pics of kids, usually not holding still.) The high quality 15meg JPEG tops out at 1600. The expanded ISO is nice for tripod shots of night scenes. I thought I would be using live view, but find myself using the viewfinder as it focuses almost instantly. The live view is a 3 second wait. HD video of a wedding in 1080 looks spectacular on my 56" DLP. We took the reception vids in 720 due to the movement, equally nice.
My wife even uses the camera, and she does not take well to new technology. She likes point and shoot so we put it on CA or full auto and she takes some nice shots.
Overall a great camera, nice size and weight, with absolutely spectacular pictures.
This is our second purchase from Adorama this year. We sold the Pansonic Lumix DMC FZ28 (awesome camera, no bokeh) to my parents to help pay for the T1i.
