I wanted to get "more" out of my pictures than a point and shoot could give me so I opted for a dslr. After a lot of research I decided on the Canon xsi. I use this camera to capture family moments and would like to use it for much more but I am still learning. The size of the body is great (I have small hands) and the dial control on top is really easy to use. Actually, the whole camera is pretty easy to get used to, although, I am having a little trouble with the focus, but I think that is me being a novice. Canon is a great brand and this is a great camera. I would highly recommend this to friends and family members, which I already have!

I looked around for a long time and I'm glad I chose this camera. It's the best camera for the price. It doesn't have HD video but I have a seperate HD video camera for that. You don't have to get this exact model but make sure you get a Canon.

I love the way this camera feels in my hands. I am new to photography and looked into Nikon 3000 / 5000 and actually got this one based on the way it actually felt. I have taken the time to read alot on how to use SLR cameras and it does take some time to learn, but amazing what it can do. Just a year ago, we purchased a Panasonic Lumix point and shoot camera that we thought had the speed to take photos of our infant...now a toddler. After talking with a friend who photgraphs wedding and recently took our holiday photos we decided it was time to upgrade to a DSLR. Her first camera was a Canon Rebel XTi and the Canon brand was highly recommended. We have enjoyed taking several photos and have captured moments that we would have otherwise missed with a point and shoot. This is a great camera and if you already own a video camera, you can save by going with this versus the T1i. We tested the speed by throwing a ball in the air for our dog to catch. We snapped the photo with her leaping in mid air catching the ball as if she were frozen in time. This is a great intro DSLR. Canon picture and product quality is superb, even given the "kit" lens. Large LCD screen doubles as metering area. There are always a lot of settings to learn with an SLR camera, but this provides good "auto" settings for those quick pic opportunities, as well as the ability to manually manage your settings. If you're just getting into photography, this is the camera for you.

I had a near breakdown as I contemplated over whether to buy the XSi or the T1, but I finally decided on the XSi, mostly because I decided I would not be using the HD video capability of the T1. I am extremely happy with my decision. I cannot express what a great starter DSLR this Rebel XSi is. If you are looking to just get started with SLR capabilities, this is a great choice. You will get great quality shots while having lots of fun!

I am a photo enthusiast new to Canon and the XSi. I have been very pleased with the ease of use, nice LCD, portability and image quality. Truly, with the right lens, this camera takes fantastic shots, especially for the price. I have found the high ISO shots to be excellent for the price point, and the speed of the camera is better than I expected, even with action shots, provided the lens is up to the task. The only thing I miss from the Olympus E-510 I'm switching from is the dial-in white balance setting, as sometimes the custom white balance setting on the Canon isn't stellar, although mostly it falls in the range that's correctable with post-processing. I can recommend without hesitation, especially with falling prices lately.

Live View LCD only works in manual modes of operation. The view finder must be used while operating in the automatic mode. This should have been stated in the ads promoting this camera. I feel that it was purposely omitted from the ads promoting this camera.

I haven't had it long but so far I have been impressed. My problem will be trying to use it to its potential as I have very little knowledge of photography but enjoy taking pictures and seeing the results. I was a hard convert from the film camera and I haven't taken pics in a while. This is a great camera to refuel my passion for photography. It takes great photos and is easy to use. The action setting is amazing when snapping photos of hummingbirds. And the camera bag weighs alot less without a dozen rolls of film in it. Can't remember why I didn't want to go digital!

I use the Camera in many ways and find it to be a good all round DSLR. Had an XT that I passed along to another family member when I bought a Sony A350R, the 350 was just too much complexity and frankly did not provide the IS I expected.

I'm still learning how to use it and haven't had time or patience to sit and read the whole manual. The one thing that I would like it to do that I don't think it can, is use the LCD screen as image viewer to take photo like on my small Sony digital. I need a manual like 'Photography for Dummies' where it says "Want to photograph your cupcakes and make it look like natural light-here is step by step instructions". It will come over time.

I am really enjoying this camera. I use it for family gatherings and sporting events. My daughter is in karate and now I can get the shot of her breaking a board in the sports mode with rapid shots. I look forward to using it outdoors, once the weather gets warmer, to take pictures of birds and flowers. I'm an avid photographer and use my XSI for a range of things from nature + macro photography to home studio work (infant, family, senior, etc). It's worked wonderfully thus far! Great controls, easy to learn. The 18-55 lens is wonderful. Details are crisp and color is pretty true to life. It includes good software. The focus controls for live view shooting are a little unnatural for me, but perhaps a little more practice will help. Highly satisfied!

Owned a Rebel XT for 2-3 years and upgraded for the larger LCD, megapixels and self cleaning sensor. I believe the differences between the XT and Xsi was worth it. The XS to the Xsi is not. I sold the kit 18-55mm IS (f3.5-5.6 lens) for a 17-55mm f2.8 IS. The kit lens is junk. A better lens, lets this camera shine. I added the Canon Battery Grip to balance out the setup after adding the heavier 17-55mm lens.

Camera is very easy to use, with controls intuitively placed. Menu screens are easy to navigate. The beautiful LCD makes review a snap. The SD cards instead of the CF cards is a welcome change. SD cards are the way to go.

I've used this camera with 100mm f2.8 macro, 85mm f1.2L and 17-55mm f2.8 IS and it's done great with all. I use it for landscape (on top of SLIK tripods and Manfrotto ballhead). As well weddings using the 85mm and it does great, handles well and quickly.

Eventually I'll move to the 5d Mark II or a 1d and go full frame, but for now the Xsi is a great camera to have.

This is my first DSLR. What a fantastic camera. Easy to use in auto mode. Lots of features in manual. The starter 18-55 lens is pretty darn good. It will keep me satisfied till I can afford more expensive glass. And even if you buy better lenses this one is very light for traveling. Battery life is quite good too.

In post production- I can crop and enlarge and there's a noticeable lack of degradation- the extra12.4 mps does make a difference.
The controls are easier to man- like an iso button right up by the shutter release, and more.
The feel and grip has an improved index finger incline- I can almost hold the camera with just my fingers.
You'll notice right away that you've arrived with 'the big boys'-in terms of picture quality too (get the kit with the 'IS' feature please, it's much improved glass over the old 18-55mm)-you'll get a good sense of a luxury lens that: "Oh Wow!" type reaction. While I do prefer CF cards over SD cards, that is a personal preference, and I decided to give in to get the other features of the XSi . I love the high ISO noise reduction! You can shoot at ISO 1600 without any problems. My XT started to get noisy at ISO 800 (400 in low light). I love the high resolution, and big, bright LCD! I was a little upset by the change in battery, but the Lithium Ion battery last a long long time! If you are in the market for an entry-to-mid-level EOS camera look no further.
