I purchased the Rebel XS about a month ago, and i have been pleased so far. This is a great starter DLSR and would be great for anyone learning photography or even to use for portrait photography. With the right lenses, this may be a great camera. The kit lens produces a good quality picture for subjects that are fairly close, and RAW capture allows you to capture the shot without much digital noise at low ISOs. I got this camera to use in my photography classes, and so far the images are much better than the Kodak Z1012 I was using before. The image stabilization on the kit lens is less than impressive though and autofocus tends to hunt a lot in low light. I believe the quality of the lens is probably the problem here, but i end up having to use my tripod and focus manually to get really clear pictures unless it is very bright out. I also purchased the Canon 28-90mm telephoto lens from Adorama which produces a better quality photo, but neither lens works well at all in AF mode. I have gotten some great pictures using the LCD screen and maually focusing though. Eventually i will buy some better lenses, and then i'll see what this camera can really do!

I bought this camera as an upgrade from my Rebel XT. This is a great camera for those not really willing to fork out for the Xsi like me. The Xsi is a great camera, but for what I will use it for, I cant justify the extra expense. It has more features than I will probably ever use, but it is good to know they are there. The camera is easy to use, and produces outstanding photos. If you are looking for an entry level DSLR this is it!
