This camera is my workhorse. I'm shooting a "How To" book and this is all done in a studio setting. It stays on my studio tripod, day after day.

The ability to shoot in B&W makes this the perfect camera for my needs.

I previously used the Powershot Pro 1 which had the digic 1 image sensor. I wasn't too impressed with the quality of the Pro 1 because the noise level was the same as my older point and shoot canon. When I got the Rebel XT I was thrilled with the new Digic 2 sensor. The noise level is 1/5 what it was with the digic 1. Oh, and the camera has all that I need for becoming a better photographer. It performed perfectly during my trip to Rome.

I was very excited to find a digital SLR in the 'prosumer' price & quality range. Instead of buying the kit with the 18-55mm lens, I opted to buy the Canon EF 28-135mm IS lens. I haven't been able to purchase any other lens as of yet, so my review is only based on the camera's performance with the 28-135mm lens. The only con I have about it, is that the photos appear brighter on the LCD than the actual exposure when you view & print the photos from the computer. But, if you can take that into account & monitor your histograms, it's not that big of a deal. I love that fact that the Rebel will shoot in RAW format, and has many of the features you will find on the level up professional Canon models, such as the EOS 10D (which was my first experience using a D-SLR). I mostly shoot for hobby, taking alot of photos around the house, of my cats and flowers/nature, etc. I find that the quality of the photos is excellent. I like that you can adjust the sharpness,and color saturation; and you can also shoot in black & white and sepia with color tints. It has a lot of nice special features to play with. I have a smaller frame and found that the Rebel was the perfect size for me. My husband also uses it sometimes, and he's never complained that it was too small for him. The built-in flash is as good as any, as far as built-in flash goes. I have not been able to purchase an external flash yet, but I prefer to use natural/ambient light as much as possible anyway. I do run into some trouble in low-light situations when I don't want to use the built-in flash, such as getting slightly blurry photos, but I feel that's because my lens isn't fast enough, and not a downfall of the acutal camera. I hope to be able to purchase a wider faster lens in the future. Also,I would recommend purchasing a card reader- it makes downloading time much quicker. I also liked the smaller battery size and found that the battery life was excellent. Overall I am happy that I purchased the Rebel XT, and would recommend it to others. (I have not used the newer XTi model yet, so I don't know if it much different than the XT...)

The only drawback to this camera is the size of the display on the back. The 10 megapixel model has a larger one, which would be an advantage. However, this camera is probably the better value, as the 10 megapixel model is significantly more expensive.

I love how fast the autofocus is, especially since I photograph lots of fast moving kids. I can't seem to get vibrant colors without processing in Photoshop which has been a bit disappointing. Overall, an excellent camera.

There are a couple of features that need to be turned off the LCD screen but it get complicated.
They made it easier in the XTI (D400) model but that doesn't fix it in the XT, so spend the extra money, you'll be happier.

I did not realize just how much better this camera is than the Digital Rebel I had previously. It is very fast starting up so you can take pictures very quickly.

This is the third digital rebel for me. I have had the 6meg and the 8meg so a natural transition into the new 10meg XTi. I bought this one because of the good experiences I've had with the first two. Love canon cameras they are quality products and have so many good lenses

I love this camera. It takes great pictures and is a manageable size and weight to carry around. I have not used all the special features but the basic features are just great! I don't always get the best low light pictures but I don't use the special features that would probably make a difference. My outdoor pictures in particular are fantastic!

This is a great camera! I took pictures of my grandson at our campsite with the only lighting coming from the campfire (1' flames) and the flash. My daughter-in-law said it was professional quality--sharp details, saw the tiny hairs on his face, and veins on his forehead! Very easy to use--just remember to turn the knob if you change from portrait to landscape, etc.

This camera gave me very good photos on my recent trip to Alaska, even though I didn't really have time to work with it before I left. The "automatic" setting came through in a variety of situations. I would still like to have the appropriate hot shoe flash to work with for better low light photos.

1.6 isn't good for lens under 50mm do the figureing with your lens before you buy a camera. Your wideset lens is as wide as you thought on this camera or just about all of them. Full Frame camera is years saving for most. And they can or will quit you too.

Very nice camera for everyone. Really delivers high quality pictures. My only dislikes are the features I'll (and most people) will never use. Canon could have spent the money elsewhere and made the camera slightly more rugged. Still I'd recommend this camera to anyone.

It was between this or the xti. I decided to go with this 1 and save about $200. I have shot night time football games, dances, portraits, skateboarding, and many many other things. This camera never fails me and always meets what I throw at it.

My first camera was a Canon AE1 that I still have and use at times and will not part with. The AE1 is well over 20yrs old and still produces good pictures.

When I first looked at the Rebel XT the
