The Rebel XT is a great value for the money. Having been using Canon 35mm EOS cameras for many years I find the digital camera very easy to use. An added bonus is that I can use my EOS lenses and accessories with it. The 8 mega pixels are fine for me since I never make prints larger than 8 x 10.

Great little camera with lots of bang for the buck! Easy to get going, though the controls are a little clunky to navigate after being used to the 20D and 30D. LCD is bright and easy to see. Good camera for the starter or as an economical back up for avid photographers.

I have been wanting a digital SLR for years, I finally got this one when I had to take some wedding pictures. I love this camera, the istant feed back, the unnoticable lag time, the large burst mode (even larger with my SanDisk 4 GB Extreme III), the blips and histogram that show exposure errors, and the fact I can adjust the settings and retake right there. This is the camrea of my dreams at a price almost [$] cheaper then local stores. Fantastic camera for the price.

Great little camera for the price. Match to its bigger sibbling in term of image quality. Not as durable though.
Definitely a must buy for a serious beginner.

The kit lens is a let down in term of picture quality. My old Olympus E-10 beats the kit lens in the sharpness and the lens speed. 18-55mm efs is just a mediocre lens. Save some money and upgrade to better lens as soon as possible.

This camera will really shine with a good lens. It never let me down, except the time when it gave me an "error-99" message. It's no biggie, turn off the camera, take out the battery, put everything back in and turn it on. Voila... the "error-99" is gone.

For me the optional battery/vertical grip is a must. It gives the camera more balance when heavier lens is attached.

This camera is great it takes awesome pictures with great quality. You can zoom in on all the pictures and will still look good. I haven't found anything to complain about with it yet and i don't think i will. Buy it if you get the chance unless you wanna spend a lot more money for the newer version.

I was pleasently surprised. I was saving for one of the higher end prosumer models and a very good freind suggested the rebel. I wanted the higher end since some metal in the body and would be more durable. However, rebel even though it is plastic seems decently made. The manual is not so great.

I used a film SLR for many years and finally made the switch to digital with this camera. I have been more than satisfied. I especially like the ability to shoot RAW images for the flexibility it gives you in post-processing (and that the camera CAN record both a RAW and JPEG image at the same time, though that eats up memory.) But just as with film SLRs, you have to be prepared to spend some extra money for accessories to really take advantage of what the camera can do. In addition to the kit lens and a telephoto zoom, I just recently added a 50mm 1.8 lens for low light situations, and an off-camera flash (Canon 430EX) and sync cord to use with a flash bracket I already had. It's a vast improvement over the on-camera flash. Of course, if I were buying now I'd get the XTi for the extra megapixels and the self-cleaning sensor.

I have other Digital cameras and have been disappointed with the recovery time between shots
This camera is instnatly on and recovers in less than a second for your next picture.
I have the EOS film version and am pleased that my lenses will work on this camera also.

The resolution is great. Exposure controls very accurate. It's not too heavy except with my 300m lens. Lots of options -- but ----
The only complaints that prevent me from giving this 5 stars are complicated controls and poor manual. There are so many features that I still haven't memorized them after a year. Turning options on and off sometimes takes so much time that you lose the picture. I guess if you spent an hour everyday for a week you could practice alternatives and get them memorized.

Great camera for the money. Canon has some of the better lenses for the price and the best selection of any brand.
The small screen can be a problem but the new XPi model has solved that.

I have had this camera for about 1 year and. I have taken a few hundred photos, mostly photo journalism style pictures. The camera proformed flawlessly at the Airshow this summer and the few potraits that I have taken have turned out very nice. My only real complaint is that you will need a Canon ex flash with this camera. The onboard flash is basicly useless and I haven't found any non Canon flash that works corectly. I am working on the low end of the spectrem.

I got this camera 3 weeks ago and have taken over 900 shots already -- mostly of my daughter's tennis matches and basketball games. The menus/controls are really easy to use. The colors are great. If you're going to shoot inside, without a flash, invest in a faster lens (f2 or lower) -- the kit lens at 5.6 is SLOW! my only real complaint is that the camera is small -- I'll have to invest in the $150 battery pack to make it fit my hands better.The camera is fun, easy to use and should be able to technically serve anyone up to the advanced hobbyist. A great camera for the price.

Where should I start, I just got this beauty in the kit with the EF-S II 18-55mm Lens and 430EX Flash, it's amazing. I went to a summer camp in Croatia near Dubrovnik this summer, and thank God I bought this baby before that, If you have to go anywere don't leave your home without this camera. It's so versatile you just can't imagine. I suck the living lights of it and it did'n even drein the battery for 6 days in a row. Used it for freezing action and also for long expositions up to the max 30"sec. with a tripod, It got every single shot. After my trip I ended up with 1,20 GB of photos in JPEG at 8 MP per photo :))) Yes I was smiling and you would smile if you had also bean there and seen this beast make his magic.
Now I'm working on a broshure for a company and the flexability that this equipment offers is beyond any words. It's just enuff to say that from one job this equipment will cover it's cost :))) It so proffesional it's over the top :))) and the first month since I bought it hasn't finished yet :))).
