Comments about Canon Canon Powershot G9 Digital Camera Kit, 12.1 Megapixel, 6x Optical, 4x Digital Zoom, 3.0" LCD Screen - Black Finish:

My opinion, Canon did not quite hit the mark with this version of the G series. The optical viewfider is worthless. I am not sure what their designers were thinking on that one. All my shots now are taken looking at the LCD. Quite noisy when you get to ISO 800 and above. The lag time is pretty good. I like that feature. Canon has done a good job keeping the controls consistent between models. I like that they restored the RAW feature

However, I rate this camera overpriced and average. I would look at a cheaper Canon "A" or "S" series or another brand like Leica/Panasonic or Sony. I have learned to work around its quirks; however, I am disappointed with Canon on this one.

Comments about Canon Canon Powershot G9 Digital Camera Kit, 12.1 Megapixel, 6x Optical, 4x Digital Zoom, 3.0" LCD Screen - Black Finish:

The G9 is an excellent companion to an SLR, especially when traveling light. It's build and overall detail and image quality are excellent to very very good through ISO 200. Image quality really suffers at ISO 800. I have shot quite a number of gallery quality art photos with it. Manual control is very comprehensive and logical. This camera is built quite stoutly - overall, it reminds me of a classic Leica rangefinder in its construction. image quality and handling when in use. It's not quite a 5, but is closer to a 5 than a 4, hence the higher rating, which I rarely use. The lens and sensor combination have excellent resolution for a non-SLR.

A great addition to a DSLR, a primary P&S or even a DSLR replacement if you really can't stand the DSLR size and weight. An all around great little camera!

Everything the 1st review said.. This baby has more features than you'll ever need, and more megapixels too.
You cannot imagine how great is the very large lcd screen. You carry it like an iPhone and show people your pics.. uses up the battery so recharge it (kinda slowly) often. So I often shoot with optical viewfinder and leave screen off.
Not sure the shutter is quick enough for grab shots or decisive moment shots. But still faster than earlier digitals.

Comments about Canon Canon Powershot G9 Digital Camera Kit, 12.1 Megapixel, 6x Optical, 4x Digital Zoom, 3.0" LCD Screen - Black Finish:

An advanced point and shoot digital camera - has many options and controls that will appeal to a photography enthusiast but also easy for a novice.

PROS: Very sharp image details. Easy to access white balance customization and I find myself using custom white balance often for this reason. Great exposure compensation and manual exposure controls - manual mode offers onscreen information that 35mm users are familiar with plus the image exposure changes right before your eyes. Built like a tank and looks very Leica-like. Large screen and usable viewfinder. Has camera RAW format for serious editing work, YEAH!!!

CONS: Very noisy above ISO 400. Although you can obtain an image at ISO 800 and above the pictures are basically fair snapshots. LCD screen does not swivel out -- this would be a great feature for "street shots" plus it would be easier on the knees to obtain those low angle views.
