Comments about Canon Canon Powershot SD800 IS Digital Elph Camera, 7.1 megapixel, 3.8x Optical Zoom, 4.0x Digital Zoom, 2.5" LCD Screen:

My wife wanted a small digital camera that she could take anywhere. After reading the manual and playing with the features, I'm very impressed. This camera is TINY, but has an incredible feature set. I love the big, bright LCD and all of the advanced options. She loves that she can turn it on and take a picture with two button pushes.

Comments about Canon Canon Powershot SD800 IS Digital Elph Camera, 7.1 megapixel, 3.8x Optical Zoom, 4.0x Digital Zoom, 2.5" LCD Screen:

I bought this camera to take with me on those occasions where photography is not the first priority, but a picture might be nice. For that it works and it has a true wide angle lens (28mm equivalent). It is not a digital SLR and will not respond as quickly or as accurately as a SLR would. Also the macro setting is a bit lacking. Basically it's great for fun, but not for obtaining professional quality photos.

one of the best compacts i've come across, but it still needs a little work. for the price, i think it's great! bright, large LCD. LOVE the wide angle lens!!! would like more manual options. and quicker flash recycling. it takes awhile between pics. but i'm picky. i still think it's an EXCELLENT choice for a compact!

Comments about Canon Canon Powershot SD800 IS Digital Elph Camera, 7.1 megapixel, 3.8x Optical Zoom, 4.0x Digital Zoom, 2.5" LCD Screen:

I use the 800IS with a Leica APO 77 Televid spotting scope for digiscoping. The IS is a useful feature and the fine image quality helps to produce good digiscoping results. It's also a great little camera to take on trips. The wide angle capability offers good family photos.

Recently purchased this camera for dual purposes:
I needed a good point & shoot for underwater (diving) pictures as well as a good land camera. This camera has succeeded my expectation with both. My wife finds it easy to use and I love the ease when taking it underwater. I am sure I could have splurged high end and purchased an SLR, but this I know I will definitely take it along with me everywhere I go.
Overall very happy with this camera.

Shutter lag and recycle not as good as my Nikon D50, but acceptable for a [$] mini camera. Clear photos at any focal length. Low light noise not as good as D50, but not bad. Easy to use controls and menu. Has very cool and well made underwater housing and slave flash. I hope the external lens shades do not jam up like other cameras I have seen. Lots of fun so far!

I am still on the learning curve because I have not had a chance to go through the full manual. I purchased this to replace the Elph S400 which has been corrupting my cards, and has already been repaired by Canon once. I like the wider angle lens and the image stabilization of the 800is. I can use this as a stand alone camera or to supplement my Rebel XT which I use for serious travel photography with a Tamron 28-300 (digital equivalent of 52-450)to cover a broad spectrum of uses.

Comments about Canon Canon Powershot SD800 IS Digital Elph Camera, 7.1 megapixel, 3.8x Optical Zoom, 4.0x Digital Zoom, 2.5" LCD Screen:

I researched small P&S cameras for quite a while before deciding on the 800 IS. The 28mm wide-angle appealed to me because I shoot wide more than long, and because my normal lens that I carry on film SLR's is a 28-105. It suits me.

I like the styling, and I like the fact that it will fit in a pocket or on a belt case - something that cameras such as the A series won't really do. I had heard complaints about the size of the controls, but I have not had a problem. I like the almost instant on - it's ready to take a pic immediately.

I like the auto mode pretty well, and it usually does a good job, especially outside. I like the fact that if you have some light inside, you can set the camera to ISO400 and with the image stabilization, get a pretty good shot if the subject is not moving, and you can leave the flash turned off. Colors are very good. I like the 4X6 mask so you'll know what you'd get in a 4X6 pic. And noise is not an issue at about ISP 400 or below.

What I don't like is that the EXIF info does not record the ISO for the shot, and that at ISO 800, the photo is pretty useless if you want to print it bigger than 4X6. So the 800 and 1600 ISO settings are just for advertising purposes.

It would have been nice to have a separate switch to turn the image stabilization on/off. It's buried in a menu somewhere, as I recall, so you can't readily take a photo of a moving subject indoors.

I'm not sure that the "Scenes" mode does much more good than using the manual mode - don't think it adds much. And, of course, the digital zoom is useless.

I'm afraid I'm going to break the battery door off every time I open it, and I'm pretty convinced that I'll break off the port door before long. It needs to feel a little more "put together."

But I am surprised at how much the camera can do, and how well the pics turn out for the size of the camera. I don't think you'll be disappointed, as long as you understand what you're buying.

Comments about Canon Canon Powershot SD800 IS Digital Elph Camera, 7.1 megapixel, 3.8x Optical Zoom, 4.0x Digital Zoom, 2.5" LCD Screen:

I have had this camera for about a month now and I absolutely love it. It is so compact and fun to use and the image quality is outstanding. I usually shoot as a part-time professional with Nikon D70/D200 with several lenses, so I am very picky and I had serious doubts that a little point-and-shoot could produce images of a high enough quality that would be acceptable to me. This little gem delivers the goods and then some! You can shoot with a surprising amount of control in the manual mode, or you can let the camera do all the work for you in automatic. The internal image stabilizer works very well, even when the digital zoom is cranked all the way out. The movie with sound feature is also great fun. My only complaint is that there is no real-time battery charge status indicator (or, perhaps I haven't found it yet). The only display you get is a warning about 1 minute before the battery totally dies. I have learned the hard way that you must always carry a charged, second battery with you when using any digital camera and this definitely applies here. I am used to lugging around heavy, bulky digitial SLR stuff, so I love being able to carry this camera that fits in my pocket. It is so tiny, you can use it without anyone noticing. I have gotten some images that I could have nevery pulled off with my pro gear. I have taken the images shot with this camera and tweaked them in Photoshop CS2 with excellent results. I can now say that I am a point-and-shoot fan and have happily added this camera to my collection of digital photo equipment. The Canon SD800 IS digital ELPH is a great little camera that I would recommend for everyone wishing high quality and a very high fun-factor.
