This is a very good all around point and shoot camera.

Comments about Canon Canon PowerShot SD980 IS Compact Digital ELPH Camera, 12.1 Megapixel, 5x Optical, 4x Digital Zoom, Silver:
I've been a Sony user for most of my life simply because Sony's stuff doesn't break. Since my last camera broke I decided to switch to this camera right here and I'm liking it so far. I love the wide angle lens (those who don't may want to reconsider as it defaults to it), the special effects (namely color accent, most Canon cameras has it), and how I am able to turn off the red light that tells people that you are taking a photo (AF-assist beam, I think). What I don't really like: 1.The protruding lens. Just saying if I were to take photos where I'm not supposed to (not that I do) this camera is really calling attention to itself and won't pull off as a cell phone. Of course I could always choose one without so I didn't deduct points for that. 2.The buttons. Personally I'm kind of used to the way you can view the previous photo by pressing "left," in this camera you have to press the view button which is fine just that the screen always prompts," Touch image to enlarge, touch movie to play back. Double tap for index."(Although I can turn it off I'm still waiting to see what other tips it can provide.) What's really bumming about the button: the view button turns on the camera so if you were to take "hit and run" photos and you accidentally pressed the view button while pulling the camera out, you'll be turning the camera off when you press the ON/OFF button. Then you'll lose the moment while really turning it on. 3.The buttons and the screen's spacing. I normally hold cameras with one hand (other hand to assist when it's dark). I have small hands but this is designed for people who have really small hands (or just people who use both, hey it's cold these days). I've been accidentally pressing the "P" on the screen since it is so close to where I place my thumb (the place with the two grooves). It's also impossible to set the mode back with my thumb since I can't reach that far on the touch screen. Other features. Flash, I don't use flash, sorry (they never look good anyway). Zoom, this camera can zoom in pretty far but it's really hard to use in dim light without setting the camera down. I don't really use zoom either. Movie, the quality is pretty good for a camera; it's cool how the "color accent" also works on movies, and no you can't zoom while filming :( . The touch screen, it's pretty cool just that you can't really zoom-in zoom-out the way you do on iphones, and you have to use the zoom-in zoom-out on the camera to change the display size and amount of photos. As far as the photos itself, the colors are pretty good (bright, you could change the white balance if you wanted). There are a lot of features I have yet to explore for now I would give this camera a 9 out of ten.
