I wanted a small alternative to my Nikon DSLR with its 18-200 zoom.The performance of this new camera was sub-par and it would not even serve as a basic starter point-and-shoot camera. I returned the Coolpix after one day! I haave since bought a Lumix DMC-F8 and it is significantly better.

The screen is very grainy. The images are fine though.

I got this camera for my fiancé, who is a casual photographer. While I would prefer a higher performance camera for myself, this is perfect for him. He really likes it, it's a great price, and he has a lot of fun with the ginormous touch screen. I can't answer what the best uses are at this time, because I honestly haven't played around with it enough to know. But my guess is, it's comparable to any other amateur point-and-shoot. If you're a more serious photographer, well, you probably aren't considering this camera anyway.

I gave this as a gift to a friend. From all reports he absolutly loves it. He is constantly discovering new things every time he uses it.

All of the images came out with high grain effect or a sepia tone. I returned the camera.
