took it with me to central america. was a great camera. didn't take up a lot of room compared to my digital SLR or 35 mm SLR. give Nikon a hand for great features and ease of use. used for people shots, night shots and travel pics. LOVE IT!

I just bought this for a trip overseas for a medical mission. I didn't want to risk losing my Nikon D200 to theft, etc and there are some major weight restrictions on the flight. I still wanted Nikon quality and reliability so I ordered the S500. I am amazed at all the features this camera has and it is no larger than a playing card! I am going to have fun being creative with this little dynamo. Very simple to operate and has features you find on much more expensive cameras. Has already surpassed my expectations of a point and shoot.
