I was upgrading from aD70 and found this refurb d200 for a lot less money than a d300; suits my needs since photography is just a hobby. Very happy with it.

Comments about Nikon Nikon D200 Digital SLR Camera - Refurbished by Nikon U.S.A.:

The Nikon D200 is my camera of preference, even though I have used more modern and more sophisticated DSLR bodies. I actually use two Nikon D200 cameras, each with the MD200 battery pack. Yes, the cameras are heavy. They are also incredibly durable.

The magnesium subframe bodies are my primary reason for sticking with the D200. This is a benefit that you just don't find in plastic consumer cameras.

Like the more sophisticated (and more expensive) pro cameras, the D200 allows the use of any Nikon lens from AiS onward. I frequently use manual focus lenses on this body with a Katz Eye focusing screen. The result is tack sharp images with perfect exposures based on the metering in Aperture Priority mode.

The D200 electronics gives me just enough of what I need for my work without a bunch of esoteric programing functions that will never be used. The four modes are easily selected, and the camera has four customizable shooting banks for different needs. The langauge used in the programs is understandable to any photographer. No tree, mountain or moon symbols. This is not a point and shoot camera disguised as a DSLR. It is the real deal in a physically durable, electronically economic package. That the price is right and the body itself is even available speaks volumes to the usual rush of all photographers towards the latest photographic pipe dream in a gold Nikon box.

The Nikon D200 will no doubt become a classic Nikon, along the same lines as the F2 and the F. It has exactly what a photographer needs, without a bunch of bells and whistles to get in the way. Sometimes I think that Nikon discontinued it because they realized they had produced the perfect professional camera. After all, a great camera is a tool that gets out of the photographer's creative path, but is durable enough to last him a lifetime. In the DSLR format, Nikon finally arrived at that achievement with the D200.

Comments about Nikon Nikon D200 Digital SLR Camera - Refurbished by Nikon U.S.A.:

I bought this so I will be able to teach students how to use a digital camera. My experiences learning how to use this, reading the manual and figuring out things, will help me know what to teach and how to break down the learning into easy to follow steps, I hope!
