I purchased my Nikon d300 package before leaving on a trip to southern France. I loved the features that enabled me to take low light non flash pictures. i.e. inside of catherdrals etc. The one lens is gresat for travel and the Vibration reduction is a great new feature over previous lens.

After using the D300 for 1+ year, it started to show banding problems and weird colours, Nikon has to ensure that PCB and / or CCD for this unit are to perform longer and not to fail just after its warranty. I am totally disappointed with NIKON sorry,

Comments about Nikon Nikon D300 DX Digital D-SLR Camera Outfit with 18-200mm f/3.5-5.6G ED-IF AFS DX VR Zoom-Nikkor Lens, U.S.A.:

This is a complex camera expecially for the casual photographer. But I knew that before I bought it. The camera controls and menus are logical and orderly. With a modest amount of preparation it is possible to operate in something close to a point and shoot mode. There is an enormous amount of very helpful information on the internet to guide you through the custom settings. The enthusiasts are quite ready to share experience and tips with those who have a lot to learn. There are certainly easier ways to take high quality photos with Nikon's lesser Dx format cameras. Jumping in with a camera of the level of sophistication of the D300 forces the amateur to spend some time justifying his investment by learning how to operate this incredible example traditional optics combined with powerful digital electronics. Just what I wanted.

Comments about Nikon Nikon D300 DX Digital D-SLR Camera Outfit with 18-200mm f/3.5-5.6G ED-IF AFS DX VR Zoom-Nikkor Lens, U.S.A.:

I needed another camera similar to the D200 in controls layout but with improved features. The D300 fills my need in spades for sports, landscapes, and freelance work. The higher ISO's help with both low light and telephoto applications. Improved noise levels have increased my flexibility with indoor, existing light shooting.

This is a very good piece of equipment that produces clean images. I used this camera and a Fuji S5 Pro. This camera produces much cleaner images than the Fuji, through it's expositional color rage is not quite on par with the S5. This camera gives me very retailable imagery after a bit of interpolation, is easy to carry, and very sturdy.

Comments about Nikon Nikon D300 DX Digital D-SLR Camera Outfit with 18-200mm f/3.5-5.6G ED-IF AFS DX VR Zoom-Nikkor Lens, U.S.A.:

I bought this D300 in November 2007 to replace D70s. I use it for about anything: landscapes, sports, weddings, portraits you name it. My general feeling is that the camera is overkill even for someone who knows photography. If you are relatively new, do not waste you money and get something much simpler and cheaper. After using this camera for a year I am still confused about majority of functions that are jammed into it, although it does not stop me from taking sellable and exibitable images. Yes, it has great LCD, it fits very well in my hand, it is very well balanced and easy to use. However it is heavy, has pretty confusing menues, and cost double over D70s. It looks like D90 would be more than anyone ever need for much less. After all it is not a camera that takes pictures, but photographer. 18-200 VR lens will however make all other lenses unnecessary.

I have have used Nikon products for over 30 years, and have never been disappointed. The D300 goes over and above what I ever expected in a camera. The quality of the pics are great. If you don't feel like doing anything "special" when using it, don't. Just put it in the Program Mode and the camera does it all. Too say the least, I'm impressed.
