Comments about Nikon Nikon D300 DX Digital D-SLR Camera - Refurbished by Nikon U.S.A.:

I have a D90 and a D700 and find each to have advantages. As I use the D90 for sports and travel, I decided to up-grade my DX capability by moving to a D300 (weather proofing, focus and speed.) As I didn't want to pay full price and I have had good fortune with "refurbed" equipment, I went with a refurbished D300. [...] The first day I only had time to charge the battery, insert a card, turn it on and take a picture leaving a thorough check-out to the following day. The thorough check-out never came as the camera died during the night. No matter what I did, tried or checked, it did not respond. Sadly I had to return it. Too bad as I really like that camera, but now I'm a little gun shy. This is the first purchase that I've ever returned [...]

I bought my refurbished D300 a year ago and am still in love with it. This camera came boxed (box is NIkon but does say Refurbished) and looked like new when I opened it. It has performed perfectly since day one. Buying the refurbished camera saved me about $500 at the time! You cannot get a better DX format camera from Nikon (well there is the newer version...but still).

Comments about Nikon Nikon D300 DX Digital D-SLR Camera - Refurbished by Nikon U.S.A.:

I bought this camera because I really didn't need a DSLR with video. The D300s was out and so I bought the D300 as a refurbished model to save some money. About 2 months after I bought it, I had trouble with a sticky shutter release, but by shutting off the camera and turning it back on, I cured the problem, I thought.A few days after the warranty (90 days)expired, the camera locked up for good. I could not reset it. [...] Fortunately for me, Nikon stands by their products and said they would fix it for free. I sent it in and they sent it back in two weeks. Alas, it did not work. It would not even power up. I called them back and they agreed to fix it again. Two weeks later I had a perfectly working, calibrated camera. I have not had a problem with it since.I love my camera. I shot photos at 1600 ISO with no noise at all. I hike a lot with it and it is rugged and takes beautiful landscapes as well as interior shots. I am quite happy with the camera and even happier that Nikon as a company stands behind their products, even refurbished products out of warranty. I will not buy another refurbished product however. I will buy new from now on.

Comments about Nikon Nikon D300 DX Digital D-SLR Camera - Refurbished by Nikon U.S.A.:

I had purchased this moving up from a D80 and I am glad I did. within the 90 day warranty, I had to send it back to nikon to get the shutter replaced, but after that(and thank goodness it was within the 90 day window) I have been happy with it ever since.

Obviously, ISO is much better than the D80. I will probably keep this even after I get a FF camera for the longer reach with telephoto lens.

Comments about Nikon Nikon D300 DX Digital D-SLR Camera - Refurbished by Nikon U.S.A.:

This is a tremendous camera for the money. Being older, I can't rely on my eyes for sharp focus. The auto focus is my saviour. It varies in speed from lens to lens, but is very reliable when I do my part. The ability to manually move the point of focus within the frame is essential.

I love the Nikon Creative Lighting System. I use portable flashes and/or ambient light exclusively, even for studio work with full size modifiers. I can put lights most anywhere I want and control them manually, via TTL, or both. Using flashes so much, I appreciate the 1/320sec sync speed and the option to hypersync up to 1/8000sec. Having to shoot in mixed lighting situations, it is very nice to be able to dial out the ambient and dominate the scene with my own setup.

The next up camera in the Nikon line is currently the D700. There really aren't a lot of features that are significantly improved in the D700. The biggest to me would be the better viewfinder. I don't see the full frame FX sensor of the D700 as important as others might. The cropped DX sensor of the D300 works very well with reasonably low noise at lower ISO settings. It is important the D300 does better with DX lenses than the D700. I have a mix of DX and FX lenses so I will be hanging onto the D300 even if I should change to a higher level body. At this writing I would have to make the jump to a D3x or D3s to achieve significant image quality improvement, particularly with DX lenses. The D300 has advantages of lighter weight and smaller size over the top line Nikons, never mind the cost.

The D300s seems not to bring much more to the game since I have zero interest in video from a still camera body.

Given similar interests, uses, and the D300 price currrently being heavily discounted, and cheaper yet as factory refurbished, as mine was, I cannot recommend another camera over the D300. The story may change when the replacement for the D700 comes out, with hopefully high ISO noise reduction akin to the D3s.

I was hesitant at first to get a refurbished item. I had a D90 before and it really didn't fit the bill. I needed something sturdier and a but larger (The D90 was a bit small). I was looking for a used D300 but this was around the same price range. When I received it, though all my hesitation and apprehension went out the window. It came in a different box (not the gold one) but I couldn't tell that it was a refurbished unit. Its like it was new. Works great, all functions well. [...] All in all I'd highly recommend it.

I convinced my parents that this would be the perfect graduation/18th birthday gift, they finally gave in and I purchased this D300. It looks flawless, there were no scratches/smudges anywhere on the camera. But once I decided to check its shutter acutations, I was set back. Prior to my purchase, my refurbished D300 used approximately 27,500+ shutter acutations (I went on [@]). It was definitely a disappointment, but this camera is wonderful overall.

I just got this via UPS today and was excited to play around with the camerA. But much to my disappointmnet the camera would not focus with my Nikon 50mm 1.8 lens. When I finally managed to fire my first shot I got a "Err" message. Thinking that maybe my older lens was not compatible I tried my 18-55mm and the camera started working fine for about 4 shots until I got the "Err" message again. Called Adorama but they were already closed. Called Nikon and they told me that I would need to send to them for repair....This was not worth the headache, but I like the camera and the price so I'll try again, as I can still use my D100 and D40x.

Comments about Nikon Nikon D300 DX Digital D-SLR Camera - Refurbished by Nikon U.S.A.:

I purchased the refurbished model and added the three year warranty to ensure I would not have any problems. The camera did not work upon receiving it. It did not autofocus and the aperture gave me an error signal and would not move off of F zero. I called Nikon support and they told me to send it in for fixing. This has been a waste of my time. [...] I am very disappointed.

Don't buy a Reconditioned Model

Comments about Nikon Nikon D300 DX Digital D-SLR Camera - Refurbished by Nikon U.S.A.:

In February, the reconditioned model cost [$]. In July the LCD's cover on the inside developed streaks, and smudges and an "out of warranty" repair cost $250. negating the money saved by buying a "Nikon Reconditioned" product.Buy a new one and save the expense and idiocy involved with Nikon's repair service. A one year warranty is a big plus. They are horrible to deal with.

I recently received my refurbished D300 from Adorama and love my new camera. I'm upgrading from a D80 to a D300, and chose refurb after a friend of mine told me how much he loved his refurbed D3. I checked the shutter count when I received my camera, and it was at 62. I took more shots than that my first night. No dents, dings, or scratches, refurb is the way to go!

I have been a Nikon user for over 20 years. This was an upgrade from a D200. After recieving the camera and shooting with it for a few weeks I have been extremely happy with it. If you are looking to save a few bucks, definitely go the route of a Nikon refurbished camera. I couldn't tell the difference between a new one and this one.

I use the D300 for portrait and landscape photography. The learning curve was not to bad, being familiar with the D 80, just more functions and quality controls. The low light ability is no comparison. The only thing is, the editing software I now use will not read the cameras raw files. I will just have to upgrade.

Comments about Nikon Nikon D300 DX Digital D-SLR Camera - Refurbished by Nikon U.S.A.:

Absolutely love this body. Though the controls and ergonomics are almost identical to the D200, in terms of image quality the D300 absolutely blows it out of the water once you get past ISO 400. High ISO performance is great, though for weddings you'd still find much added value in picking up a D700. For $1,000 less though, you really can't go wrong with this.

The 12.2 mg. file this camera produces is fantastic. I have even used the medium 6.9 mg. file and it is more than acceptable. The screen is large and easy to see, accept on very bright sunny days, but then just duck into the shade and your OK. I am a working professional in Cleveland, Ohio, and this is the second 'refurbished' Nikon camera I have bought, and am very pleased. I have no fear of 'refurbished' and would buy another anytime.

...when he told me I'd think Adorama sent me a brand new D300 by mistake! My refurbished camera could easily pass for brand new. A long-time photo enthusiast, I'm hoping to become a semi-pro following my retirement. The D300 reduces digital noise when shooting in low-light situations and has far more features than I've yet mastered. Even so, it is easy to use right out of the box (previous D50 use certainly helped)and promises years of good performance. I hope I will not need the 3-year extended warranty I purchased with the camera.

Comments about Nikon Nikon D300 DX Digital D-SLR Camera - Refurbished by Nikon U.S.A.:

The camera itself, as we know, is just the tool to capture our 'vision'. The D300 has a steep learning curve for those upgrading, like me from a D40X. Once you get a working knowledge of all the features and functions, the D300 WILL NOT disappoint. It is incredibly fast, advanced, flexible and reliable. Well worth the money spent to upgrade from 'entry' level to this high quality tool.

Comments about Nikon Nikon D300 DX Digital D-SLR Camera - Refurbished by Nikon U.S.A.:

I had another brand camera system and sold it all out of frustration with the focus system. I did a bit of research and decided to buy the D300.

This is one of the best purchases that I have made. I was very surprised at the ease of use, fast shutter, fast focus, and the feel of the camera. It has a very solid feel. It balances well, and the controls are well placed. The low light sensitivity is great too! Especially the auto-focus. It can focus in almost total dark!

The other system that I sold, had nice lenses that were very sharp. The camera also had wonderful color. But the focus was always searching at the wrong time! But with the D300, you won't miss the shot.
