Color is key to me. Mainly dawn/dusk outdoor and some macro.
Unique artistic gallery quality is the minimum standard.
As with the best art, you need a detail capability before you can test abstraction. This is what the D3X helps to do.
But it will challenge you to develop "work around" disciplines even with the best lenses.

I use professionally for weddings and portraits; personally for travel and landscapes. Most outstanding feature is image quality - beautiful images.
I use in combination with a D3 for wedding photography - they make a great combination. The D3x is much better at high ISO than I expected; I have no qualms about shooting at 1600 when I have to for events where the lighting isn't the greatest. It is a little slower (frame rate and time it takes to record images); D3 of course is faster so I use it more than the D3x for candids/PJ work and use the D3x more for portraits, posed shots, critical images of the bride, etc.
It is well constructed and heavy - but it feels great in your hands and I don't mind the weight at all.

Images are not better than the D3. Too much noise and more expensive. Most people realized that it does not worth, that is why Nikon will continue lowering the price or they may stop the production.

I use the D3X in nature photography.I also do portraits.I am now hooked on Nikon up scaling from D70x.It does not get any better than this.I am 63 years young & in love with this great camera.

I was a little reluctant on purchasing this camera based on the price. I was shooting a tricked out D300 and wanted to add a medium format, digital backed camera to my line up. I shoot mainly people, and no sports, so the medium format seemed like the way to go. However, I really didn't want to spend $30K for a medium format. The more I researched and analyzed my options, the answer pointed to the D3x. Ultra-High Rez, quality, build, NIKON, and I was already a Nikon digital and film guy, so I had a good arsenal of lenses already. This camera is amazing...truly!!
