I use this camera mostly for birds and bugs. The resolution is what drew me to it and I have not been disappointed. You can separate your excellent lenses from your mediocre lenses with this camera.

Comments about Nikon Nikon D3X Digital SLR Camera Body, 24.5 Megapixel, FX-Format CMOS Sensor - Refurbished by Nikon U.S.A.:

The D3X is unreal, in that the detail and the color fidelity, especially at low ISOs is incredible, really. I compromised on other purchases and bought this gem from Adorama late 2008, and to this day the pictures are second to none..., at least in the digital world. The pictures have an incredible amount of detail. For sports in DX mode the photos are very comparable to the D3/D3s, in quality, albeit, slightly less resolution, at a little about 10.5mb. I am so very happy I purchased this gem, and have enjoyed the results. I was very concerned about low-light capabilities, and I became pleasantly surprised with it's incredible noise reduction capabilities, comparable to the D3 up to H2 or 6400 ISO on the D3X, and because of the higher resolution slightly preferable to the D3. The D3s is in a league of its own in low light, but the D3x CANNOT be matched in detail, especially in Macro photography. If you're hesitating because of price, but can still afford it, you will not be disappointed. As far as any cons, my only disappointment was from changing lenses, dust made it to the sensor, but I sent it twice in the last 1.5 years to Nikon for cleaning, and $40 later, the camera appeared new again. Low light, no problem, I use the SB-900 flash a little more often, or shoot longer exposures.... I love it and am very happy with the D3X.

Comments about Nikon Nikon D3X Digital SLR Camera Body, 24.5 Megapixel, FX-Format CMOS Sensor - Refurbished by Nikon U.S.A.:

Surprisingly poor product quality. [...]I had problems with this camera body's Sensor since the start. The early repairs actually introduced new problems - now it will no longer auto-focus correctly and sharpness is significantly reduced. It was rather shocking to me to get something back in worse condition. Nikon acknowledges the problems but camera must be returned "more than three times" before they will even consider a replacement.[...]
