I loved my D300 and wondered if this would be a worthwhile upgrade. All I can say is that I should have done it sooner. It is about the same size as the D300, nearly all the controls are identical, and wow, it is so clean at ISOs that would have the D300 stumbling over itself. I seriously contemplated whether to buy refurbished or not. But when I opened the box all my fears went away. There was absolutely no indication that this camera had ever even been out of the box let alone been used. I checked the shutter count.....it was at 16. I have added another 200+ in the 3 weeks that I have had it and am still impressed. I paired this with a Nikkor 24-70 that I bought at Adorama and the combination is absolutely 1st rate, as is Adorama. They will continue to get my business.

I love this thing. If there is a downside it would be this: There are so many features that it may take forever for the casual photographer to fully appreciate them all.

Landscape, macro and portrait work. Though in my hands only a month, I better understand why one wants to own such a camera; this is an amazing computer and engineering feat. Having moved up the ranks from D80, D300 to this camera, I can never go back. The previous cameras were wonderful but the D700 is like owning a finely tuned machine or eating a gourmet dinner. I can't recommend this camera enough.

I love this camera, Ive been using it for years now and finally got my own instead of stealing my business partners on the job when I wanted a wider angle or sharper image.

I can shoot with a 2000 iso and see almost no noise, perfect for my profession as a pro wedding photographer. It really comes in handy when the b+g turn off all the lights to set the mood...hate that!

There is really no negative to this camera and the price is right!

I purchased this to match a previous D700 for weddings & portraits. This is a great camera for those items, I use a D300 for outdoors & sports. Was somewhat hesitant with the refurb until I read several reviews. I received this camera in excellent condition & it functions just as my previous 700. A great camera for the low-light conditions that some weddings present. Debated between the D3 & this camera but went with this one to create a matching pair. Would like the 5:4 ratio but can live without it; just remember to allow for future cropping when composing the shot.

If you are debating with a refurb purchase, take the dive.

The D700 is the first camera I have ever owned that does everything I need it to and more. The high ISO blows away it's competitors. It has been capable of shooting in any situation I have found for it. From snow and rain to sub zero temperatures. The camera has even survived a tumble down a waterfall.

The Nikon D700 is the best camera I have found for what I use it for.

I use this camera mainly for wedding events and portraits. I love it. I am not a fan of flash so the great ISO perfomance of the D700 in low light is just amazing! It functions very well overall and helps me do exactly what I want creatively as an artist. The big LCD is very clear too. I would recommend this camera. Ladies should be aware that it is a very heavy camera so go to your local store and feel for yourself. =)

I use this camera for everything, but got it primarily for it's high ISO/low noise capability. Using auto-ISO because birds tend to flit in and out of shadows and a Sigma 120-400 SO lens, the results have been great. I recently purchased the Nikkor 28-300 lens for a walk around. Ecstatic is an understatement.

I shoot tons of sports,college and high school gyms - read caves -camera is a low light, high speed demon. I can shoot 8 fps w drive at 6400 iso and get low noise results. Only downside is heavy and loud.Best sports camera yet at the price yet.

bought referb from Adorama. Works great. ~2000 shutter clicks (I've added ~1500 in one month). No external signs of use on receipt. Set Auto-ISO max to 6400 and forget about it. Nighttime bars light up like day. Im not normally this effusive about a product. The only "downside" is that you really do need to [*] to understand the options, controls that this camera can do.example- you can actually use a 500mm f8 mirror lens (high ISO settings are needed). Prior camera was a D100- no comparison except they both are Nikons and cost the same when new.

Fantastic camera. I bought from the Adorama store in NY. The camera had about 90 shutter clicks. I've had it for about 2 1/2 months and it's worked flawlessly. Superb ISO performance and autofocusing. Top notch build quality, feels secure in my hands. The viewfinder is huge if you are coming from a 1.5 crop camera. I would buy refurbished again, it's great because you save some money and the product gets a second look by Nikon techs.

I've had this for 3 weeks and have been using it primarily as a portrait camera. It's been working great. Still learning the camera controls. I like all features...too many to list. It's a bit big and bulky = heavy.

This review is MAINLY on a refurbished unit vs a new unit:I, hesitantly, purchased this refurbished camera, but really needed to save the money. I am soooooooo NOT disappointed. My camera's actuation number was less than 50......YES! The only way that you can tell this camera is a refurb unit is ONE scratch on the display cover. I've taken A LOT of pictures since I received this camera, 2 days ago, and have been VERY happy. It's a little heavier than I expected, but with the added features (from my current D70), it's worth the weight. I HIGHLY recommend a refurb unit as you really won't be able to tell the difference. I was nervous when I bought this refurbished unit, but it came packaged like a new camera, with no finger marks. Then I checked the actuation count, it was only 300. Bottom line I am impressed with the purchase. This is my first serious DSLR, the previous one I owned was D70's, which I thought did the job until I tried D700. Now my D70s is on sale.

My D700 arrived in time to take on my trip to Yellowstone National Park.

I was extremely impressed with how easy it was to use the camera. Equally impressive was the resolution of the shots, vivid colors of the images, and convenience of the large monitor.

I had thoroughly researched the camera before purchasing it so I had high expectations - I was not disappointed and was surprised at times at how well the camera performed.

I got this refurbished D700 because I couldn't afford a new one. Mine came with 925 shutter actuations, and the only other sign that the camera wasn't new was that the protective LCD cover had a few tiny scratches. I've since added a lot of scratches in normal use, though, so it's nothing to worry about. Overall, I am very pleased with the quality of the refurbished camera, especially considering the substantial savings compared to buying new. I have noticed no issues with the camera in several weeks of moderate use.

I could go on and on about how great a camera this is, but you can find that elsewhere on the Web. It suffices to say that this is the best camera I have ever used and I love it.

Finally, if you need this camera, you will know it. If you're hesitant or unsure if you need it, you might consider the D300.

What can I say. Arrived well packed in a Nikon "refurbished' box with all the trimmings. Camera fired up and the EXIF report (from my first image taken) showed there were only 1756 actuations on the camera. For $500 ish off new price, I can live with that. I also bought the 3 year extended for[...] So I think it was a good investment.Jess

I really love how operator friendly this camera is. Once you take a minute to familiarize yourself with the camera you'll find out how well this camera was designed. Virtually everything you need to control is right there with no need to go into menus.
I purchased the d700 because of it's low light capabilities which it has more than lived up to so far. It is nice to know you will be able to trust it in those situations.
