Haven't had the camera 24 hours and I've already ordered another lens for it! The focus is miraculous and there is no shutter lag. The low light pictures are beautifully exposed and the preview screen is very bright. A lot of the features in the D200 at a lower price.

Comments about Nikon Nikon D80 Digital SLR Camera 3X Zoom Kit with 18 - 55mm f/3.5-5.6G ED II AF-S DX Zoom-Nikkor Lens, USA Warranty:

This is an amazing camera. I've used Nikon film cameras (F2AS and F3) since 1979, and the images made with the D80 are every bit as good (or better). The D80 controls are intuitive and excellent, and provide all the versitility and ease of use you could ask for. This is one powerful (and fun to use) image making machine.

It a great second camera. I have a D 200 that's the BEST. Often times shooting weddings we need a second camera and the D 80 fits the bill.

I did considerable research prior to buying my first DSLR. I was looking for good technology and high performance. The D80 has exceeded my expectations and have thoughly enjoyed taking photos of my grandchildren.

I have used Minolta SRT 102, Nikkormat FT3, Nikon FM and FM2, Nikon 801, Nikon N90s, and medium format cameras, but this is the camera that made me go digital. I wanted something affordable over the 10 megapixel range that was compatible with older lenses. I scan slides and negatives to add to DVDs and print pictures for weddings and events for friends and relatives, hence not a professional. I liked the camera from the start and enjoy it more with increased familiarity. I ordered the lighter lens to complement the lighter body of this camera compared to older film Nikons. The lenses I had previously work well with this body. All in all, a smooth and pleasant transition from film based photography.

Comments about Nikon Nikon D80 Digital SLR Camera 3X Zoom Kit with 18 - 55mm f/3.5-5.6G ED II AF-S DX Zoom-Nikkor Lens, USA Warranty:

A recent move meant no more darkroom. I've been a street shooting B & W Leica guy for years. My 'other' work has me on a computer all day and have been comfortable with Photoshop for quite some time. I started playing around with digital with a Canon A95 - it was fun.

The move came and I still needed to do my work. The Canon was certainly not going to get me where I needed to be.

I read about the Nikon D80 - the stuff I wanted that the 2000 had was incorporated: 3200 ASA, 10+ megapixels (I display 16 x 20), newest chip etc. That it isn't as ruggedly built didn't concern me. After decades of never smashing a Leica, I'm confident that I know how to take care. I don't shoot news, hanging off cliffs etc.

After getting acquainted with it I started shooting - and shooting.

I love this thing! Once you get used to digital SLR at all - the control is what will amaze you. You can do anything with it.

I did upgrade the lens from the kit one to the 18 - 200 VR which is amazing also - but the kit 18 - 55 is still very usefull. For one its very light and the range is fine for everyday stuff.

I also picked up the 600 Speedlight which also gives you a lot of control and a bracket.

I'm sure I'll eventually get the wide zoom too.

All in all I'm very happy that digital finally got there for my purposes and the Nikon D80 has me happily shooting more than I had.

I love my old Leicas but let's face it, things change and its good for your brain to learn new things!

Photography will still be the art of the split second and is an image on paper. How it gets there doesn't matter anywhere near as much as enjoying the act of creation.

A tool is a tool and for now the D80 is mine.

The only hassle is all the computer filing and naming versions etc., but it beats being in a cold darkroom on my feet for hours!
