Comments about Nikon Nikon D90 12.3 Megapixel Digital SLR Camera Body with DX Format CMOS Sensor:

Instead of getting an entry-level DSLR in 2011, why not get what was once the best camera in 2008 for the same price? It's a very good idea and value (with camera bodies) to stay a model behind. Sure the D7000 is absolutely blowing everybody away right now, but you have to remember that thing's going to be dirt cheap as soon as its successor comes out, and I honestly can only think of a few scenarios where the D7000 is a little bit better. In the hands of a skilled photographer, and coupled with good glass, most of these situations are moot. If you're ready to step up from your first entry-level DSLR, I cannot think of a better option.

Bear in mind the image quality is basically the same on all of these cameras across the board aside from very low-light. The difference is that you don't have to go through a menu on your LCD screen to change your settings. The D90 is intuitive enough to where everything is a turn of the dial away, and most of it can be done while you're still looking through the viewfinder.

It autofocuses with ANY autofocus lens, and while some people dismiss the small LCD screen on the top, I've used it exclusively since my camera arrived; I haven't once used the LCD screen on the back to change shutter speed, aperture, white balance, image quality, or basically anything except auto ISO settings and things that are a little deeper in the menus and never get changed that often (AF illuminator on/off, Auto Dynamic Range settings).

Comments about Nikon Nikon D90 12.3 Megapixel Digital SLR Camera Body with DX Format CMOS Sensor:

It took a long time for me to give up shooting film, but after much examination and research, I finally settled on the D-90 as the camera to replace my old film cameras. Right out of the box, and with minimal difficulty, I was able to get really sharp and beautiful images. I was surprised at the detail in the images, even when enlarged fully. With a little tweeking and the advice of a friend, I have been able to get outstanding images in multiple subjects. After a few sessions shooting friends, I shot my first wedding with the D-90 a month after purchase, and found it as comfortable to use as my older film cameras. Due to the sensor size, can still use my other (older)Nikon lenses with good results. I love the camera, and have nothing bad to say about it. It has been a real work-horse for me. . . not too heavy, not too light, comfortable to hold, and really an easy camera to use. I am so sold on this camera that I own two, and have no intent on using anything else.

Comments about Nikon Nikon D90 12.3 Megapixel Digital SLR Camera Body with DX Format CMOS Sensor:

I had the D5000 (good camera)but upgraded to the D90 because of the direct access controls (WB,ISO,etc.)that allow me to easer take control of the manual portion of this highly aclaimed camera.I,m fairly new to digital & the D90 makes it that much simpler to understand the technical aspects of photogaphy.I doubt if I'll be needing to upgrade from the D90 but can now focus on the fun part of photography. My lenes include the Nikon 16-85mm vr & nikon 70-300mm vr & will be buying the Tokina 100mm macro.

I have used a Nikon manual film camera for thirty years and have only dreamt about a digital that would give me the same feel when I picked it up - well, this is IT! I have alot of learning to do with all the automatic things this can do for me, but it is very exciting! The few pictures we have taken so far have came out excellent without tweaking any of the settings! I don't have any 'cons' yet as we have only had the camera for a couple of weeks.

Comments about Nikon Nikon D90 12.3 Megapixel Digital SLR Camera Body with DX Format CMOS Sensor:

Is hard to say something that hasn't been said already about the D90, so I'll try to be short.
This is a great little camera, with a solid construction, excellent image quality, autofocus performance, and everything you can expect from a Nikon product at this level. This was the camera I wanted to buy for my first DSLR more than a year ago, but the price kept me away from it. Now, after more than a year of owning another great Nikon product, the D3000, and learning about photography, I upgraded, and I'm absolutely satisfied. I'll be honest to say that if this would've been my first DSLR, I may have felt overwhelmed by all the buttons and settings you can change in body (AF mode, release mode, metering, bracketing, adl, WB, ISO, image quality, etc), but after a year or so of owning the D3000, now I know what all that is for, so my workflow has taken an extra boost.
By all means get this one while you still can, it may get discontinued anytime soon. Thanks for the D7000, the price on D90 dropped, and I'm very happy =]

Comments about Nikon Nikon D90 12.3 Megapixel Digital SLR Camera Body with DX Format CMOS Sensor:

This camera combined with a 35mm prime enables me to take amazingly sharp low-light photos. I love the large LCD screen and the placement of all the controls. Since the price dropped after the introduction of the D7000, this was a great buy for me.

The only negative is the horrible video quality. It works in a pinch, but my Sony DSC-P200 takes much better video.

I saved money on the body, and got better glass (24-70 2.8) and I think this was a good decision

Comments about Nikon Nikon D90 12.3 Megapixel Digital SLR Camera Body with DX Format CMOS Sensor:

There are plenty of rave reviews about this camera so I won't waste your time in repeating what everybody else says about the camera. There is a manufacturing defect which apparently has also plagued the D70 in the past and which Nikon has not resolved as of this date. A few days ago, the media card status light started blinking when I turned off the camera, and the battery would then be drained. Not knowing what was the cause of this, I researched the product manual to no avail. I then ran a google search and found this is a somewhat common problem called the "Blinking Green Light of Death" or BGLOD problem and requires you to send it back to Nikon for repair (a 2-3 month ordeal at best). For someone using their camera occasionally, this may be ok, but not for me. Furthermore, from my research, this is happening frequently on brand new as well as 1 & 2 year old cameras, in addition to happening on the older D70 model as well. What is surprising and disappointing to me is the fact that Nikon would (a) not fix an obvious design/manufacturing problem yet, and (b) come out with the D90 to replace the D70 with a known problem. My camera is only 8 months old.

Comments about Nikon Nikon D90 12.3 Megapixel Digital SLR Camera Body with DX Format CMOS Sensor:

Both, the D90 and the D5000 are an excellent choice for the serious photographer.

The D90 quality sensor and LCD screen are fulfilling a great mission while the same great sensor at a lower price makes the D5000 a very desirable choice.

Admittedly, the D90 has great HD movie qualities and other properties but this may be desirable within only a certain group among the photographic community while the D5000 would still be a good choice for the budget minded photographer.

I would recommend either camera without the slightest reservation.

Picture taken from a distance of 15ft. Two tailed lizard is not a totally uncommon phenomenon but not one encountered daily.
Picture has been taken with the 55-200mm Nikon AF-S ED VR lens; cropped, brightness and contrast enhanced.

You have more lens options compared to the d40(x), d60, d3000, and d5000 which only auto focus with lenses that have their own motor. Mount a good flash and some good glass and be amazed. The LCD large and crystal clear. Mine had a shutter box failure after fewer than 300 photos but was repaired quickly by Nikon. The Nikon rep told me that this is a rare issue caused by a bad batch of shutters and should not happen again.

Comments about Nikon Nikon D90 12.3 Megapixel Digital SLR Camera Body with DX Format CMOS Sensor:

Both, the D90 and the D5000 are an excellent choice for the serious photographer and above.

The D90's quality sensor and LCD screen are fulfilling a great mission while the same great sensor at a lower price makes the D5000 a very desirable choice.

Admittedly, the D90 has great HD movie and properties but this may be desirable within only a certain group among the photographic community.

I would recommend either camera without the slightest reservation.

After using this DSLR, I don't know how we ever did without one. The camera and our 18-200mm Nikkor lens combo was a pretty good choice. The only significant difference we noticed was the weight of the camera compared to the point and shoot versions. Tough to compare the two but worth mentioning.

Comments about Nikon Nikon D90 12.3 Megapixel Digital SLR Camera Body with DX Format CMOS Sensor:

Absolutely wonderful camera. I replaced my D5000 after my daughter took it to college. The D90 is a whole level better experience without having to go through menus to get ISO, QUAL, and WB settings. The camera simply doesn't get in the way of taking pictures. I can give my full attention to composition and subject without worrying about the technical aspects of the camera or exposure. The matrix metering is terrific as long as you understand what it tries to do with the zone system.

For the photo enthusiast I highly recommend this camera. Adorama made it affordable with a package (not kit) lens.

Love my D-90. My hubby got it for me for my birthday, I already had a Nikon D-50 and just thought it was terrific....until I hit the shutter release on my D-90. It was like driving a volkswagon (which I might add I do like) compared to a Mercedes-Benz. The LCD monitor was like watching a big screen tv compared to the screen on my D-50, awesome. I love the fact that I can do a lot of in camera edits on pictures if I so desire. This will be my camera for years I can tell, as it has so many bells and whistles it may take me that long to get proficient with all the tasks that I can perform with it. I am very happy with my Birthday present.

Comments about Nikon Nikon D90 12.3 Megapixel Digital SLR Camera Body with DX Format CMOS Sensor:

I traded up from a Nikon D5000 to the D90 to get the internal focus motor, flash commander mode, and the wealth of controls. The D90 is the best creative tool I've ever used. Its ergonomics are simply perfect, the photo quality is top notch, its weight and balance are great. I almost never use the menus for setting anything. Everything important is configurable through the buttons and spin wheels on the body. The battery lasts a long time. This is an amazing camera!

The only con to this marvel of technology is: the video. It's terrible. Rolling shutter means you cannot move the camera while recording, or the video looks like jello. No auto focus during recording, so your subject cannot move either. You can manual focus but you have to look at the LCD screen and you'd need another hand, or a tripod. HD video is 720P only, and only 5 minutes worth. My Kodak point and shoot ran rings around the D90's video performance. If you're buying a D90 for it's video, hang on to your receipt.

Absolute best camera you can get, unless you want to spend really BIG bucks for a professional type. Easy to use for those who are accustomed to point and shoots and don't want to fiddle with a lot of settings, but powerful enough for the serious amateur to take photography to the next level. The 4.5 fps is great for sports. While the video function is not as versatile as that of a camcorder, it's handy to have on a DSLR and it'll get the job done for short clips (and the HD quality will impress). Just pick your lens(es) (use the VR types) and get busy! Great deal from Adorama [...]

While it does not havd all the custom setting of the D300 it has the most commonly used. The only thing I miss from the D300 is JPEG Optimization other than that is produces about the same quality pictures for a lot less money. Overall a Great DSLR.

Comments about Nikon Nikon D90 12.3 Megapixel Digital SLR Camera Body with DX Format CMOS Sensor:

Having used several Nikon cameras over the years (Nikkormat, 4004, F3HP, D50) and now the D90, I find Nikon to be extremely dependable and their progression of improvement and new technology and features, just's builds on the way these cameras operate.
The D90 adds tremendous features that operate at nearly a "point & shoot" mode in AUTO...giving extraordinary picture quality.
The HD movie mode is a nice feature, although the fixed focus issue reduces its usefulness.
To be able to use all my Nikkor lenses is an added value. Nikon and Cannon keep leapfrogging each other with newer features and capabilities. To have these two players moving the technology forward is exciting.

Comments about Nikon Nikon D90 12.3 Megapixel Digital SLR Camera Body with DX Format CMOS Sensor:

Excellent camera! Looked around for 6 months, comparing, talking, trying all the models in the stores, etc. This is my first DSLR and probably my last. I paired it up with a Nikkor 18-200mm, one lens, one camera, it does it all. I wanted something to take action photos of my hockey kids and it will 'freeze' the puck! Before it was a blur and so was every player. I was so tired of blurry pictures, this D90 is a dream come true. No flash needed and very clear and bright pics. I also took some sledding pictures and they 'froze' the sled and expression. The zoom is great and the image stabilization, well, it is a whole new dimension in my photo database. The quality is no comparison to a non-DSLR. I looked at all the DLSRs, Pentax, Cannon, etc. and I am sure they would take good photos as well, but the D90 is remarkable. The speed at 4.5/sec, low light to 3200, and ease of use were the best features. I still have not cracked the manual/user guide that came with it. It is so easy to use out of the box. The battery life is amazing. I accidentally left it on for a week and took it to see Santa, thought I was a dead man, but it had plenty of life left and took over 25 amazing shots in a min. You can leave the camera on all day and shoot when you feel like it. I bought an extra battery, but know I am wondering why. I got a shoulder bag to drop it in and out of, very handy. I picked up a 8GB SD Extreme III card as well. Very fast, highly recommend at least Class 6, 15-30MB/sec will do the fast shots no problem and the video too. Uploads to PC are very fast. This camera is one of my best purchases ever made and Adorama had the best prices on everything. How can there be this many good reviews...I know why...Buy the camera! Adorama Rocks! Keep it up!

This camera replaced a D200, and produces images that are superior to the D200, under all conditions. The large LED display on the back is great for viewing photos and shooting information. My only complaint is that it is stuck in PTP and is not recognized by my computer as a mass storage device. Thus an SD card reader is required to download the photos.

I am using the D90 for family shots and local landscape photos. I bought it as an upgrade from the excellent D40. I consider the D90 to be a lightweight equivalent to my D300. I appreciate the prism/viewfinder clarity, focus drive motor and sensor dust removal features over the D40. I appreciate the compact and relatively light body when compared to my D700. The D90 is built to a high standard and feels solid in the hand. I have yet to find any serious flaws with this camera and think it is well priced for the features it offers.

Comments about Nikon Nikon D90 12.3 Megapixel Digital SLR Camera Body with DX Format CMOS Sensor:

Like many camera enthusiasts, I depend on my camera for all types of photography--from family events, to "official photographer" for community events, to nature, sports, and landscape photography, my camera cannot let me down. The D90 is so far advanced from my D70. I would recommned that you read the manual two or more times to really become familiar with what the D90 can do. You will not be sorry.

Comments about Nikon Nikon D90 12.3 Megapixel Digital SLR Camera Body with DX Format CMOS Sensor:

Coming from a D50, the D90 excels in every way. The bigger LCD is a pleasure to the eye and reveals much more detail. The high ISO performance is amazing, usable even at ISO 3200. The 4.5 fps continuous shooting comes in very handy for the sports action. The size and weight is just right even with the vertical grip. I cannot see any amateur photographer needing anything more than the D90.

Comments about Nikon Nikon D90 12.3 Megapixel Digital SLR Camera Body with DX Format CMOS Sensor:

The D90 is a well designed camera! It incorporates large improvments in performance, controls and software over the earlier D60, D70, D80 cameras. It's well worth updating to this camera just for those reasons. The video capability is another. If you want pro controls and a heavier build in a DX format you want to consider the D300 or D300S. If you don't need time interval shooting and the pro features and desire video, this camera is an excellent choice. It's light and easy to use. The D90 ISO performance and image quality is similar to the more expensive D300, D300S. The D90 sensor is easy to clean and stays clean a long time. The switchable lighted viewfinder grid lines make it easy to line up shots without using a camera level and tripod. You get a lot of useful features in the D90 for the price. The controls are easy to customize via the menus. It works with a wide range of lenses as do all the Nikon DSLR's.

I am happy to have a Nikon digital camera with the performance of the D90.

Top Quality DSLR for the Mid-Level User

Comments about Nikon Nikon D90 12.3 Megapixel Digital SLR Camera Body with DX Format CMOS Sensor:

I picked up the D90 body because it uses the proven DX format CMOS sensor found in the D3/D300 coupled with Nikon's processing engine. The 3", 920K LCD is bright and displays all the shooting information in a clear format. I also chose the D90 because it retains the top LCD screen for shooting information as well, for quick changes. The pentaprism VF is bright and clear and provides very good magnification. The D90 also sports an in body AF motor, which allows me to use older non-AF lenses. As I mentioned above, buttons and controls are all in perfect reach (even has a dual control wheel), including a dedicated ISO button. Menus are easy to navigate and beautifully displayed on the LCD screen. The body feels well constructed, sturdy and has the quintessential Nikon "feel," a grip that just melds with the curvature of the fingers/hand. Connectivity with my PC is a breeze and no additional software is needed to pull JPEGs or files off the camera. Live View is a breeze to use compared to my experience with the Canons. D-Movie is also very easy and the quality is very high (24 fps gives it a movie like feel). Nikon's metering is still spot-on! What else is there to say? It's a great camera and well worth the price I paid.

Good camera, bad software support

Pros:

Cons:
Software
Describe Yourself:
Photo Enthusiast
Bottom Line:
No, I would not recommend this to a friend

Comments about Nikon Nikon D90 12.3 Megapixel Digital SLR Camera Body with DX Format CMOS Sensor:

As many other reviews confirm, this is a good digital camera. After buying mine, however, I was disappointed to find that Nikon provides very poor support to users who do any kind of software post-processing with their pictures.

Nikon again changed the file format for this camera versus older models. As a result, most of the software you have probably won't work. Not only do you need the newest versions of Photoshop or Photoshop Elements if you're using Adobe products (ok, Nikon might argue that's Adobe's problem, but then, they provide no support to Adobe) - but wait, even your own Nikon software may not work at all! Neither the older Nikon Capture 4 photo editing software nor the relatively new Capture NX can read files shot with your D90! Nikon's technical support say there's nothing they can do about that and I should buy ($180) or upgrade ($100) to the newest version, Capture NX 2. In my case, all I'm using my Capture software for is to de-fisheye pictures taken with Nikon's 10.5mm lens, which worked well with my previous Nikon cameras. No more.

I consider Nikon's attitude unacceptable and warn everyone that you may end up having to spend much more than you thought if you want to use your D90 as most people do!

Comments about Nikon Nikon D90 12.3 Megapixel Digital SLR Camera Body with DX Format CMOS Sensor:

I work with a music magazine, and this camera is excellent for taking pictures in dimly lit, high movement situations. Captures superb images, even in less than ideal lighting situations, and shutter speed, especially in rapid exposure mode is incredible. The extra money for this model as compared to the less expensive D60 is worth it if you plan on shooting in low-light situations or need a faster shutter speed for repeat exposure. I would recommend buying the body only and adding the excellent 18-55mm or even the 18-200mm VR lens. All Nikon lenses are fantastic, but for the money, save the [$] ([$] if purchased separately)for the 18-105mm which this body style is kitted with. It is an okay lens, but a little blurry toward the edges in tele mode.

Comments about Nikon Nikon D90 12.3 Megapixel Digital SLR Camera Body with DX Format CMOS Sensor:

I wanted to upgrade from my D60 and the 90 really hit the mark. The 60 took great pics, but control was cumbersome. On the D90, everything is at your fingertips, and the camera can be customized to match what is important to you.
Image quality is spectacular. Although the D90 can be set up to be very easy to use, it is versatile enough to meet the expanded demands of the pro-sumer or enthusiast with room to spare.

Love it, love it, LOVE it!

(I added a couple of pics to the review just to show color and clarity. Taken with the 18-105 VR)

Bottom Line:

Comments about Nikon Nikon D90 12.3 Megapixel Digital SLR Camera Body with DX Format CMOS Sensor:

The D90 performs brilliantly. Excellent color, all the way up to Vivid. Active D-Lighting is much improved from the D80 and even D60, with a very functional Auto mode and it's fast enough that it can be left on in burst mode. The 3D AF tracking works very well, even on fairly fast moving subjects.

The high ISO performance is good enough to shoot night baseball with a cheap lens. Images are very good up to ISO 3200 and usable at 6400. Native ISO is 200, so 200 provides full quality as opposed to earlier models which needed to be at 100 for full quality (downside - no 50 and 100 provides a bit worse exposure than 200, making it more difficult to shoot wide open in sunlight).

Ergonomics and interface don't get in my way, which is what I expect.

I don't use the video mode.

Unfortunately Capture NX 2 leaves a lot to be desired, it is much slower to use on a single image or a library of images than a program like Aperture or Lightroom. It is also too expensive considering all it's good for is being the most compatible raw processor. But it's the only raw processor that correctly interprets the camera's color mode controls and handles things like Nikon's color aberration reduction. As a result I shoot in raw+jpg, load everything into Aperture, use the JPG for most purposes but if I need to do advanced processing use Capture NX 2 to process the raw file to a 16-bit tiff, load that into Aperture and make it PSD for round-trip Photoshop editing. That sounds like a pain but it does provide the best possible processing.

Describe Yourself:

Comments about Nikon Nikon D90 12.3 Megapixel Digital SLR Camera Body with DX Format CMOS Sensor:

I've been taking "party" shots. Everyone with a p&s is amazed at how much better my photos are in comparison.
Advice: Get a FLASH! The SB-600 has been amazing for me. Get LOTS of memory cards--I go through 16GB in no time (about 2 hours). And many, many batteries for your flash. You can roughly say that 1GB of memory uses 1 AA rechargable battery in your flash.
Next: Get a real lens. I'm using the 18-55mm VR(the inexpensive option). I can't wait to get a faster lens as most of my shots are indoor.
Surprise: It's amazing how well "fully automatic" works on this camera. If you could find a p&s with such amazing automatic settings you might not need this thing.
Avoid: Nikon software. It stinks. I'm a photographer for fun, but I'm an I.T. guy by profession. They have horrible software, period.

Comments about Nikon Nikon D90 12.3 Megapixel Digital SLR Camera Body with DX Format CMOS Sensor:

I travel in order to take pictures, and this camera has not yet dissapointed. First, it just feels great in your hand; substantive, solid, well built for a pro-sumer camera.

Second, photo quality is excellent - absolutely stunning. For little money, you can slap on Nikkor 50mm f/1.8 and have an exceptional portrait camera. Or, I just took it on Safari with the relatively inexpensive 70-300mm f/4.5-5.6(effective 450mm zoom since it is DX) and got exceptional results.

Video is a great feature, but it takes a lot of work for it to be of high utility in many circumstances since 1) autofocus doesn't work, and 2) the only way to control key features like apeture, ISO, etc., is by 'tricking' the camera and using manual lenses. But since I didn't buy it for video, I'm giving it 5 stars!

Comments about Nikon Nikon D90 12.3 Megapixel Digital SLR Camera Body with DX Format CMOS Sensor:

I have been reluctant to make the leap to DSLRs, but figured I would jump in with the release of the D90. My only other digital was the Sony DSC-F717, which was a nice point and shoot option, but lacked many photographic options.

I would have preferred to get a full-frame model, but for the money this was my choice. I am not disappointed at all. I paired it with a 35mm f/2D AF, and the results have been excellent. I plan to pick up a film body too, and gradually switch all of my gear over to Nikon for efficiency's sake. I have always been a fan of the performance of their gear, but this is my first Nikon purchase for myself.

The D90 has a couple of default settings that I found counter-productive, but they are minor and easy fixes. The red-eye reduction light is blinding and pretty much ruins any shot it precedes, so I disabled it. And the one "gotcha" setting I have come across so far is the default setting to make the picture counter reset after you wipe your SD card or put in a new one. (Change in "Custom Setting Menu" >> D7)

Overall it seems to be a solid piece of equipment and very versatile for the money.

Bottom Line:
Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

Comments about Nikon Nikon D90 12.3 Megapixel Digital SLR Camera Body with DX Format CMOS Sensor:

This is a great alternative to the D300. Much less money allows you to invest in better glass. D300 is more rugged, offers 50% faster continuous shooting, 25% faster flash sync, and easier access to ISO/Qual buttons (no shift button), and a bit more flexibility. For the amatuer photographer, these are relatively minor. On the plus side, the D90 is lighter and less expensive. You can invest the savings in a nice 2.8 zoom. The bodies depreciate and improve faster. For serious sports photograhy, the D3 or D700 are better suited and the D300 is good for a tighter budget.

This is a great value for money DSLR. Designed for the people who understand photography principles and would like to get pictures in the way they want (and not the way that camera wants).

Metering is precise, selective focus is improved and low iso noise improved as well (1600 ISO is fine; I am pushing to the edge now - 3200).

Great successor for the last year's D80. I would strongly recommend the transition to the D90.

Although Video Capability cannot replace traditional camcorders, it is very fun and useful.

5 stars for its money and for what Nikon promises to deliver. Next best choice to D700.

Comments about Nikon Nikon D90 12.3 Megapixel Digital SLR Camera Body with DX Format CMOS Sensor:

I own different Nikon DSLRs. This is one is unbelievable. Even shooting at full auto I get razor sharp images. Compared to my Nikon D200, D50 and D40 this D90 is the best. This D90 has the same sensor as the D300, the only difference is the speed and the other added features. Image quality wise I would say they are the same or the D90 might have a little better Image quality. As usual I like the ergonomics of Nikon. You always have instant access to ISO, White balance, Image size, etc. With canon 20D, 30D AND 40D You need nasty 3 steps to move the iso, first you turn on the screen backlight, 2nd you need to press the iso button 3rd you need to rotate the dial. This is the same when you adjust white balance. It is always three steps. Very inconvenient. Nikon is always better when it comes to quick access. Buttons are designed ergonomically. Nikon D90 is also a killer in lowlight photography. All you need is a cheap 50mm f/1.8 lens this is worth 100 plus, or if you have enough budget get a 50mm f/1.4 AFD. Take note that the f/1.4 has a lot of versions but you can get the cheapest less than 300 USD. I also own Canon 40D and i would say there is no comparison. Sharpness, ease of use, built, etc. All angles nikon wins!!!!

Comments about Nikon Nikon D90 12.3 Megapixel Digital SLR Camera Body with DX Format CMOS Sensor:

I have had a D70 for about 4 years. Great camera, but its limitations were holding me down. I am glad I did not upgrade to D300. Too much for my budget. The D80 was an evolutionary improvement over the D70. The D90 is a revolutionary leap from both the D70 and D80. Feels and looks largely the same as the D80, which means a little smaller than my D70. It is perfectly compatible with my older Nikkor AF lenses, so it is better than D40-60, which I would not buy for that reason.

The quality of this camera's pictures, the bright colors (Play with the most vivid settings) are reason enough to get one. Now, I seldom take my SB600 flash out of its bag, because the results are so good in relatively low light conditions and indoors. ISOs up to 3200 are noise free! Above 400ISO, the noise of my D70 was unacceptable.

It is now possible to shoot pictures using the very large, accurate LCD screen to compose, but I am so used to using the viewfinder that I have seldom used that feature. I have only played with the video and not taken any serious film, but I am glad to have it available. Get the largest SD cards (16G or better) if you want to shoot HD video, because it is a pig.

One more thing: this camera has an ultrasonic sensor cleaner, another great feature.

Best of Nikon for the money!!!

Comments about Nikon Nikon D90 12.3 Megapixel Digital SLR Camera Body with DX Format CMOS Sensor:

Why buy a D300, when you can do most things with the D90 at less price and a lot less weight, plus it has Auto D-link, and the image quality is as good as, (or better than) the D300?
Of course, if you are shooting landscape or you are doing VERY large prints (measured in meters), no digital camera is as fine detailed as the old 35mm ISO 50, where you can be shooting very close to 100 MP when you do hi-def scans (try this). Plus, you’ll have smoother colors and better dynamic range with film. But, the convenient of digital is priceless!
You'll learn to use it quickly. Oh yes, forget video mode! It does not auto focus, you have to focus first, and then shoot; if your subject moves, your videos WILL BE out of focus or you will shake the camera trying to manual focus it; useless feature!
The in-camera AF motor speed is the same as D80 (although it sounds different).
If you definitely need faster auto focus speed with traditional AF, AF-D and IF lenses, by all means, get the D300, D700 or D3/x, if you can afford them.
Again, the D90 weights a lot less than the other ones, if you shoot all day with the camera in your neck/hands, the D90 is your camera! So, at the end of the day, when you are tired, which one are you more likely to keep on carring around? D3/x/D300/D700 or… the light weight D90?
You'll say: The other ones, because of the metal frame!--- I'll say: Are you going to bang it around? Plastic bends and comes back, metal bends and stays! So, tonight I'll have a picture to prove it, and your heavier camera will be in your car with the mem-card emty, (and your wallet too).
When shooting things, try picture control set on Vivid at +3 saturation, Auto active D-link and -0.7 exposure compensation, the colors are better than the real ones! (See picture attached)
It has a built in commander mode, for wireless remote command of flashes like the SB600 and up. Less things to buy or take with you, Yeah!
Battery life: Can you shoot more than 1k shots without the need to access a charger? If you do, then you’ll need more power. Otherwise, you’ll have plenty.
In short: SUPER!!! Way to go Nikon!

Comments about Nikon Nikon D90 12.3 Megapixel Digital SLR Camera Body with DX Format CMOS Sensor:

The camera may not be as robust in build as the D300, and it may not have all of the features; however, it takes great images. There are a lot of menu choices, but this gives you more control, so I see it as a plus. The focus metering system is fast. I took about 100 test shots, and the only complaints are the slower sync speed (Compared to my D70) and that the meter is off about 1/3 stop in poor lighting, but not consistently. It feels solid in my hands, and the buttons are well placed. The movie mode is so so, and the screen is great. YOU WILL WANT A FAST CARD FOR SHOOTING IN RAW (20mb/sec or faster). Unless you need the build, or some of the features found on higher end models, this is a really good body.

Comments about Nikon Nikon D90 12.3 Megapixel Digital SLR Camera Body with DX Format CMOS Sensor:

This camera has changed my whole take on photography. I spent a lot of time researching before I made my purchase, and I have no regrets. I won't go over the features (there are plenty of sites doing that), but from my humble amateur's perspective, this camera is simply allowing me to take exceptionally good looking photos without difficulty. It's much more portable (for me) than the D300 and a lot cheaper but importantly, the results look just as good. Perhaps a pro might feel differently about the few technical differences. The kit lens is pretty darn good, but the BARGAIN 50mm f1.8 [$] is a must have too.
