I liked this camera enough that I bought a second one. The theory behind this was so that if my camera had a malfunction while doing an occasion, I could pick up the other one and continue on.

All the would be the same!

Love the camera so far. Only had some issues with autofocus photographing model with red dress. Images slightly out of focus as autofocus keyed in on dress leaving face flat. Changed to single point focus and started at face and locked in focus then took image.

Nice features on camera to limit need to go to menus during shoot.

Comments about Nikon Nikon D90 12.3 Megapixel Digital SLR Camera with AF-S DX NIKKOR 18-105mm f/3.5-5.6G ED VR Lens:

I've had the Nikon D90 for 18 months. Camera now stands at 21,500 shutter releases. I have never had the slightest breakdown or malfunction of the camera, (unfortunately, the same can't be said of the operator).
My photography skills have grown with this camera. One of the things I like most about this camera is what I have learned, and the D90 is not going to limit me for a long time.
The capabilities of the D90 are very deep. But bottom line is quality of photos, and when operated to its fullest, and matched with a good lens, the D90 will produce a wide range of tack sharp and bright photos, from landscape to macro shots.
Wonderful camera.

Whether you are shooting on Auto or Program mode, fully Manual, or somewhere in between, the D90 is very user-friendly. The two command dials allow users to set their settings right in which no hassle. I would definitely recommend this camera to anyone looking for a DSLR, whether beginner or pro.

Converting from a typical point and shoot, the thing i love the most is the super fast shutter speed and the continuous shooting mode. Very important when my main subjects are 2.5 years and 10 months old! Automatic mode makes it easy to use but as I learn to shoot in manual I'm really enjoying the range of other options.

I love and use my D90 a lot. I consider myself a semi-pro as I use it for portraits, landscapes to a simple point and shoot setting. I love the dual buttons for aperture and shutter settings. The picture quality in low light is really great. What is giving me problems from time to time is the sensor for the lens indicates that my lens is not connected and I get an error "f--" and am unable to take pictures. I have to turn the lens off and connect for it to work. Please look into that problem. You will find threads about this problem on google.

I bought this for my wife to use and as a back-up to my D300. I was shocked to find it shot cleaner high ISO jpegs than my D300. Coupled to the 18-105 VR, this little kit is a real value and a joy to use!

You just can't go wrong with this kit! It does everything well and some things better than the D300!

I purchased this because it was in my budget. I would love to have afforded the d700 or d3.... someday. But this has the motor I needed for the lenses I want and I can afford it :-) I am very impressed with what it does so far. I can only imagine what it will do once I learn a little more. The 50mm 1.8 is a must as is a 200mm or 300mm VR lens. Great camera for the price.

I love this camera. The images are so colorful and sharp. The AF its very fast. I love the high ISO control that have at ISO 800 & 1600. I buy this to upgrade from a Nikon D60. The 18-105mm lens its very good for every kind of event. The LCD its so bright and with the 3 inch produce very clear preview of pictures. Canon have a lot of fans here in Puerto Rico but the quality of the Nikon equipment its really over Canon.

I like to take pictures of wild flowers. One big plus is I can set up a custom management profile with extra sharpness, and more saturation. I can set up another for sunsets with the color tint set a little toward the red end of the spectrum. You can set up many different profiles. Just select the one you need and you are ready to go.

Need to learn this amazing piece of photogaphy equipment. Used Ken Rockwells advice for set-up, not real happy with that so far, auto-focus not good. Manual focus still produces somewhat blurred pics. I know it will be worth it when I get the settings dialed in, but right now I am experiencing a little buyers remorse (no time to learn it, my own fault). Lense is good, but thought it would have better zoom capability. Glad I didn't go with the 18-55mm lense. Might upgrade to the 18-200mm VR II sometime soon (after I learn the camera). Fun to use!!

Comments about Nikon Nikon D90 12.3 Megapixel Digital SLR Camera with AF-S DX NIKKOR 18-105mm f/3.5-5.6G ED VR Lens:

The D90 skillfully bridges the gap between pro and consumer DSLR cameras. The auto settings are perfect for a quick snapshot before you can properly prepare for a photo, or for casual users. On the flip side, the D90 is quite capable as a fully manual digital SLR. It is the perfect camera for my uses (high-quality landscape and wildlife photos while hiking, backpacking, etc. also some candid family shots, some travel photography).

One minor down side, the standard grip is a little small (I am a 6 foot male with average to large size hands). This size grip is helpful in keeping weight down, but makes holding the camera somewhat difficult. I think the optionally available extended grip would easily solve this concern, though.

Comments about Nikon Nikon D90 12.3 Megapixel Digital SLR Camera with AF-S DX NIKKOR 18-105mm f/3.5-5.6G ED VR Lens:

The D90 was my first digital SLR and I love it! After a short learning "curve" and taking one of Better Photo's on-line courses specific to the D90 [a must!], I found the camera relatively easy to use. The D90 has so many capabilities that in order to take advantage of them, one should spend some time experimenting. I feel doing so makes one a better photographer. The camera impressed me enough that I bought one along with the 18-135 lens for my son. For the money the D90 is an excellent value.

my first DSLR camera! looked around for months, couldn't decide which one to get. I am happy with my purchase and excited to learn more about photography.
1 thing i should have done was to buy just the body and invest on a better glass. the glass that it came with is OK but i quickly realized i need a better telephoto zoom lens.

The Nikon D-90 instructions should include better written details, color photographs, (the b + w illustrations are hard to follow.) The instructions should include a DVD on how to's, and technique examples. It should include narration and close-ups of camera features and uses to cover the variety of buttons, uses and techniques. A camera this wonderful and complex deserves an instructional guide package worthy of its reputation.

Very nice camera, solid feeling, but I use it with battery pack mb d80 and when removing battery cover feels a bit flimsy but ,apart from that excellent camera.really good on night shots and long exposures.Just one thing bothers me about the lens:put a Tiffen UV on it and the front element makes a little contact with filter making a tiny spot on the center of the image, took it out and use the hood all the time or if nasty conditions just put the filter a bit loose and problem solved, haven't checked if it's the filter or the lens, but it's not a bad all around kit lens.

I am an entry level novice to photography. I did research to determine what the best camera and lens arrangement would be to obtain high quality photography of a high school dance team. I also purchased a Nikon f/2.8 70-200mm VR lens. The combination of the D90 and this lens is almost perfect. The environment I shoot in is gym lighting mostly in aperture priority mode. My single biggest reason to purchase this camera over other brands is the high quality sensor that allows me to shoot with a high ISO settings while having a larger aperture setting and minimizing noise. My shutter speed is up where I need it to be to capture high speed movements without blur. I have been delighted in the output, especially in RAW NEF mode where I have imported into Nikon's Capture NX 2 software.[...]

Comments about Nikon Nikon D90 12.3 Megapixel Digital SLR Camera with AF-S DX NIKKOR 18-105mm f/3.5-5.6G ED VR Lens:

I upgraded to the D90 after having a D40 for just over a year. Both cameras are fantastic, but the D90 is truly a step up. I've taken >1k photos on it thus far, and the image quality is superb. I know all the hype about avoiding kit lenses, but I have to say I find the 18-105mm kit lens with the D90 to be an excellent walking lens; it has the perfect focal range for me, takes sharp photos, and has a fairly short min focal distance.

The package I purchased through Adorama was great, too. It came with the Slinger bag, which is working out well. It also came with an extra batter that is definitely required; this camera eats through the juice much more quickly than the D40. The lens cleaning kit is nice as well. The only other thing I wish it included was a UV filter.

Even if you aren't fluent in maual photography this camera with it's awesome metering, super-fast autofocus, Dynamic Lighting software, along with all the setting to choose from you can't take a badly exposed picture with the D90!
Wether you use Manual settings and dive into the menus to tailor the camera specifically for you or set it to Auto and let the camera do the work you will take beautiful Pictures with this camera!

I have never been so excited about a camera! The Nikon D90 is a must-have. I seriously considered the Canon T1i and also the Nikon D5000, and after comparing features and capabilities, the D90 was in the lead...when I held all three in my hands, the D90 left the others in the dust. It is the most comfortable, natural feeling camera of any I looked at. My best friend just bought a D90, also from Adorama, on my recommendation.

The D90 is a great place to start if you have your sights set on being a pro shooter. Besides a complete set of features that almost parallel the higher end Nikon offerings its own bag of tricks like video capture make it very versatile. It is light but well made and easy to handle. Best of all the images are needle sharp. One feature I find indispensible is Commander Mode when working with multiple flashes in groups off camera. This camera can earn its keep and deserves serious consideration.

It was time to move from a small compact camera to something that did it all. This is the ideal camera for that. I can now shoot images in low light situations without a flash. I can use the 70-300 telephoto for the kids sports games. The HD video on the fly lets me capture the action without putting down the camera to grab a video camera. Plenty of pro options for someone learning how to use the opportunities the SLR provides. It goes from simple Auto mode to full manual controls; totally different than my pocket camera. Only bummer is the price. Though it does have great value, you do have to spend a few bucks to own it.

Comments about Nikon Nikon D90 12.3 Megapixel Digital SLR Camera with AF-S DX NIKKOR 18-105mm f/3.5-5.6G ED VR Lens:

I'm no expert on camera's. I've had several point-and-shoot camera's but this is my first D-SLR. It's like trading in your Gremlin for a 350Z! I took it on my trip to Disney and it performed great in bright and low light situations. I took about 300-400 shots per day and charged the battery overnight. At the end of the day, there was still battery left. I love the 4.5 fps ability, that allows for capturing the sequence which will give you the perfect timing for things like jumping into a puddle or getting hit by a blast of water from Stitch's mouth!

My only complaint was when I first started using the camera. Having only used P&S style cameras I was using the LCD instead of the sights to frame my shots and I thought there was a focusing issue. It seemed to take a while to get focused. Once I went to the sights, there was never any problems.

The 4.5 fps is without the flash. Should have been obvious but it took me a day to figure that one out. Lastly, when you change lenses, turn off the camera before switching. I usually do that but forget when I'm switching frequently. Once I pulled the camera out to use it and it wouldn't focus for anything. I turned it off and back on, same problem. I turned it off, removed the lense and put it back on, then it worked. The manual recommends you power it off, I guess I forgot that time.

Overall, I love this camera. It takes great pictures. Now I just need to save up for more disk drives as files sizes can be huge!

Comments about Nikon Nikon D90 12.3 Megapixel Digital SLR Camera with AF-S DX NIKKOR 18-105mm f/3.5-5.6G ED VR Lens:

Received the camera (Nikon D90) two weeks ago, and attempted to make some photos. Discovered the camera doesn't work. Live view doesn't work. Flash doesn't work, neither the built-in flash or the Sunpax flash I purchased. Took 75 pictures at an event, and none are useable..dark and murky. Even Photoshop couldn't clean them up. Couldn't return the camera, as I had thrown the original boxes away. No warning not to, but I guess I was expected to know that. Shipped the body to Nikon for repair, where it remains with no estimated date of return. I have a poor image of Nikon's quality control, and it's return policy. I paid for a new high dollar camera, and will eventually end up with a rebuilt camera at the new price.

The low light capabilities of the Nikon D90 is a big change. Shots at ISO 800 with no flash look great. Photos with kit lens are sharp and VR feature are a big plus.

It takes a while to remember how to use all the features but once you experiment w/ them and get to know how to properly use it it's great, hence the easy to use review. Looking forward to blowing up the photos for framing. Very pleased w/ it in every way.

I made a few dozen test shots before taking my new D90 to a remote area. The camera was in a well protected case when I found the lens separated from the body due to a broken mount. There was no serious drop and don’t tell me the plastic mount could not stand hiking. Cheap plastic mount definitely not Nikon quality. Regretted that I did not bring a second lens but managed to salvage my trip by using rubber bands to hold the lens to the camera body. The camera body gets 5 stars but the 18-105 VR lens gets zero. Nikon should have included rubber bands and duct tape in the package.

I upgraded from D50 to D90 and TOTALLY amazed by this product!!!
The only negative difference is that it is heavier then D50, but, camera is fast, takes wonderful images and does an amazing job in low light. I don't really care about video mode so I can't comment on that.

Nikon D90

Comments about Nikon Nikon D90 12.3 Megapixel Digital SLR Camera with AF-S DX NIKKOR 18-105mm f/3.5-5.6G ED VR Lens:

I am am amateur and shoot concerts in low-light. The high ISO is wonderful and allows me to get photos I wouldn't otherwise capture. At 6400 it is noisy, of course, but at 3200 it does pretty darn well. I purchased an inexpensive 50 mm 1.8 prime lens, and that has made a huge difference in letting me lower the ISO and get better photos.

The shutter release is a bit loud, and I have to work around that.

The camera is solid, feels good. It is not at all intuitive, but I am learning to use the many features by practing a new one each week.

I have also used it to record performances and the quality is **much** better than I got on either of my Sony or Canon videorecorders. And it's easier to manage the recordings once I transfer them to my computer.

I would definitely recommend this camera to someone who wants to upgrade from their point & shoot and wants long-term versatility and quality. My last digital SLR was Olympus Evolt 510, and this is a vast improvement.

Comments about Nikon Nikon D90 12.3 Megapixel Digital SLR Camera with AF-S DX NIKKOR 18-105mm f/3.5-5.6G ED VR Lens:

I'll start out by saying the D90 doesn't focus as quickly or easily as the Canon 40D, but that is where it ends. The D90 is an amazing machine that does everything well. True color, tack sharp quality, a screen so bright you need shades and controls that are easy to find and use. I have to admit that I read the quick guide after setting up the camera and shot about 1000 pictures before needing to go into the manual for some specific settings. Very intuitive and clear when cruising through the menu. Battery life is outstanding as I can shoot about 1200 pictures, maybe 900 with flash on a single battery. They do take a while to charge so invest in a couple of extras and you are set for a long time without charging. Invest in a good strap as the Nikon one supplied will leave your neck sore after a few hours. I've only used the LV a couple of times and it does take some getting used to with the AF feature being slightly diferent. Love the ability to modify pictures while still in the camera with the Nikon software. The screen is so clear and bright it allows me to do a lot of editing in the field instead of on the computer. Although the flash is good, I'd still invest in a TTL flash if you are shooting indoors or portraits.
I couldn't be happier with what Nikon has put together in a very user friendly package with the highest quality features and products.

We switched to Nikon after our Canon 10D broke last fall. My wife wanted something smaller, but I wanted more features so we picked the D90 over the d40. I'm glad we did. I love the camera, and it's been a breeze to learn the controls, but it's just a tad too small for my hands. (Perfect for my wife though!)

Overall great, easy to use camera with wonderful image quality.

The feel of the camera in my hands is perfect. The quickness of shooting speed and fast focus is great for catching flying birds. I don't think I could have selected a better camera for me, especially for the price.

This is the first Nikon I have used or purchased. Previously I shot with a canon xti and 5d and have found the Nikon to be of better quality. The lenses that came with the kit are exceptional, far better in quality than many of the canon lenses, with the exception of the L series. I have found that this camera works great with night photography the long exposure noise reduction works well but there is a substantial delay after the photo is taken;you can turn this feature off. The color is far more accurate than the canon and the resolution of the lcd is good. Live view is a nice feature but have found I do not use it as much as I had expected.

Comments about Nikon Nikon D90 12.3 Megapixel Digital SLR Camera with AF-S DX NIKKOR 18-105mm f/3.5-5.6G ED VR Lens:

For me, the D90 was a very nice step up from the D40. The autofocus and metering are much better, and I can get 2 or 3 stops faster ISO with better quality (ISO 1600 is usable, but the contrast could be better). I really like having all the dedicated controls available for shooting mode, focus mode, etc. etc. rather than having to dig through the menus. I do miss the very small size and weight of the D40; I also miss the 1/500 flash sync of the D40 (I was not able to freeze the motion in a indoor inflatable kids birthday party with the flash the way I have been used to doing).

Having the option to record 720p HD video is also surprisingly useful. I took some still images of a FedEx truck sliding on a frozen street, but the video of the same thing was much better. A great feature.

I have not had a real SLR for many years now. My first was a Minolta X-700. This camera was easy to learn, and no I do not know all the tricks yet, and have had great success taking over 1,000 pictures on vacation without any efforts at all. There are many setting to try if you wish or just aim and shoot. The rapid shooting is also great for the action shots or on a tour bus that will not stop at overlooks. Battery life is GREAT. I shot 7 consecutive days on one charge with 25% of the battery life left. Yes, I was viewing the shots at night also. This camera is a must have with the optional Nikon 70-300 mm lens. And the Vibration Reduction... Works great!!

The Live View mode works great especially when using Nikon Camera Control Pro 2 during a portrait shoot. While it is bigger and heaver than the D50, even when taking nature pictures it's weight is not an issue.

The VR seems to work well - I got great shots in a moving bus on a safari tour (Disney World Animal Kingdom :-) My only negative is that it's heavier than my D70 - particularly since I was using a Tameron zoom with it. The Nikon 70-300 VR zoom is great, but my arms get tired.

Absolutely the Best

Rating: Super
Pros: Everything about this camera speaks to quality and ease. The utlity value with video says I can do anything anywhere for whatever reason.
Cons: Have not found any!!!
Opinion:
I received my D90 with the kit lens and have made 700+ pictures in one week. I set the camera's function button and the "My Menu" setup to access the most useful features quickly. I have it programmed such that I can make changes on the fly with one hand. Keep shooting!!!

I have used the kit lens and the picture quality is superb. I know the downside is a plastic mount but I do not plan to jerk it around.

The quality of Nikor 18-105 lens has proven to be great. I also use the Nikor 55mm F1.4, a Nikor 18-55m VR, and a Tamron 28-300mm VC lens. All have allowed the camera to do its work while I worry only about composition and the pictures have turned out great.

This is a keeper.

Considering the ability to add clips of video to your shoot, this has an excellent set of features and some of what I consider the best IQ available in a sub 1k body. Arguably the best.

I got one for use as a backup to replace the D80 which sat in the bag since purchased. The D90, however, has replace two of the four D300's we use and is much preferred in quiet venues and during speeches where you don't want people looking at you when the focus is on the speaker.

I also own the D700's and would say the IQ of these bodies falls between he D300 and D700 (closer to the D300 though).

It lacks the AF fine tune. That is my only real bug with this body for the $$$.

Get one and if you don't already have a Nikon consumer grade all in one, get the 18-105 kit. This is a great lens for the $$$ though a bit slow on the apertures.

This is a brilliant camera. I am a mere amateur, but in my opinion, this is the best value for a DSLR out there. I chose it over the D300, Canon EOS40D and Olympus E3 (I played with all of them before deciding). The results on the D90 just look amazing, with little effort on my part. It's low light performance is worth it's weight in gold to me. No more nasty brightly lit, squinty faces! Sure it takes videos, which is a fun diversion, but it's the image quality that is expecially outstanding.
