Comments about Olympus Olympus E-520 10.0 Megapixel Digital SLR Camera Body with 2.7" HyperCrystal II LCD Screen:

I moved up from my first Dslr, the Olympus E500, in order to get the image stabilization. I was not disappointed. I also enjoy the larger LCD and the information shown during image review that helps to adjust exposure. The new usb cable connection location is much easier to work with.

The camera is easy to use but also has allowed me to become very creative as I learn the functions and their controls. With very little learning curve I was able to make quick changes to the settings to get the results I was after.

Before getting a Dslr you should hold it in your hands to see how it feels. To me this one was far more comfortable and balanced than the others I tried.

Comments about Olympus Olympus E-520 10.0 Megapixel Digital SLR Camera Body with 2.7" HyperCrystal II LCD Screen:

More bang for the buck, good lenses and the 4/3 is the future. I taken 100's of family portraits with the camera and it keeps on clicking. Shoot for magazines using several cameras at the same time, and have no trouble changing lenses quickly. With the dust buster feature, it is great not having to spot dust out of images. RAW is good, I don't like the noise reducer, prefer to turn it off and get sharper image at ISO 100.

Comments about Olympus Olympus E-520 10.0 Megapixel Digital SLR Camera Body with 2.7" HyperCrystal II LCD Screen:

First: Service from Adorama was outstanding as usual.

CONS:
A small sensor size (i.e. 4/3rds) will always have limitations over a larger sensor. The biggest CON of this camera is the poor image quality using high ISO speed. The pictures I’ve taken at ISO higher then 400 are definitely grainy. Lower then ISO400, the shutter speed may not be high enough to capture the motion you desire. (I was trying to capture ducks on a cloudy winter day with the Zuiko 70-300mm)

Additionally the small sensor size means at a fixed focal length, cameras with larger sensors will have a wider angle. Thus, this is not the camera for super-wide angle photography.

Over Christmas my dad purchased a Canon 50D which is 15 Mega-Pixels and has a APS-C sensor. If you calculate the pixel density (pixels/mm of sensor) both cameras have are the same (~218 pixels per mm). 4/3rds cameras are not the best if you are printing at a very large size.

With only three autofocus points, performing still life compositions using a tripod may be a limitation.

This is not the camera if you are interested in extremes (low light, super faster shutter speed, very large print size, super-wide angle photography.

PROS:
- The image stabilization works great, it makes the Zuiko 70-300 a useful lens.
- The cost is significantly less then other the next grade-up of digital camera. This camera provides a lot of value for the price.
- Much smaller then my Dad’s Canon 50D in both size and weight.

Don’t be intimidated by my CON list. With the exception of only having 3 autofocus points, the other CONS are limitations of the 4/3rds sensor not of the camera itself. I am very pleased by this camera and have taken great pictures with it. This is a feature dense camera with lower cost, weight, and size then similar competitors.

I recommend going to the Olympus web site and downloading the E-520 manual to learn more about this great camera.

Comments about Olympus Olympus E-520 10.0 Megapixel Digital SLR Camera Body with 2.7" HyperCrystal II LCD Screen:

I bought an Olympus E-Volt 500, two lens kit, and was extremely satisfied with it. I decided to upgrade and was hesitant after reading some of the comments by reviewers, but trusted Olympus from past experience also with film cameras. So far, it has been an absolutely great choice for the price. All the lenses, including my 70-300mm work fantastic. I updated my firmware for the camera and lenses and the pictures are stunning. I will upload some shortly to my pictures at [@]. by the way, I have bought several cameras and a lens from Adorama and have been throughly satisfied with their service.
