Comments about Pentax Pentax K-5 Digital SLR Camera with 18-55mm Zoom Lens, 16.3MP CMOS Sensor, 1080p HD Video at 25 FPS, 3 inch LCD, Black:
I had been a professional photographer for many years duing the film days. Got into digital a few years ago and now going back into the business. I love the K5 it does everything I need it to do.
The only drawback for a pro is the lack of accessories made for it such as radio triggers. You can get radio triggers that will work but only in manual mode. The upside of this is I usually shoot in manual when working with flash any way, but with the advances in through the lens metering it would be nice to be able to use the top brand radio triggers that would allow ttl. Maybe someone will make a trigger that will do so and then all is good.

I was hesitant about spending the money to upgrade from the Pentax K20D. I am very glad I did, the K5 is an amazing camera. The controls are far more user friendly and I liked the old ones. The HD video is supurb. I like the fact it is water sealed as I spend a lot of time photographing in the rain and on whitewater rivers. The higher ISO range is fantastic and the image quaity at higher iso is great. I am totally happy with this camera. The only down side is that many after market items are not made for Pentax such as remote radio triggers that will allow for PTTL flash control. There are plenty however if you want to shoot manual and they do a great job. Over all Pentax has a winner here. I would recommend it to anyone amature or pro. I rated it 4 stars because 5 means perfect and nothing is although I cannot think of any improvements I would make as of yet.

With Pentax DA lenses, this camera is just amazing! I researched and compared this camera to others, and it was an easy choice. Visit DxO Labs and compare it yourself.

This is my first DSLR. Previously owned a Pentax K-1000 film SLR. REALLY appreciate how easy this camera is to use and the quality of the pictures.

I don't know where to begin, this camera is amazing. I've used this camera for studio shoots, engagement pics, and everything in between.
The first thing that I noticed was how QUIET the shutter is. That really comes in handy when shooting at an event where noise is noticeable.
The ISO performance on the camera is also amazing, I get great IQ up to 1600, once I get to 3200 the noise level for crisp pictures starts to get a little much, but still acceptable for smaller prints.
The weather sealing on the K-5 and DA* lenses is an amazing advantage. I just shot an engagement in a snow storm, and had NO worries about damaging my camera in inclement weather.
The camera comes with 5 customizable user modes. I find that I can easily set a few settings and switch between them for different scenarios, and the camera makes it very easy.
Finally, and probably most importantly, the image quality on this camera is phenomenal. The color reproduction I get with the K-5 is wonderful. A fellow photog who shoots Canon constantly comments on how great the colors coming out of the K-5 are.
My one gripe about this camera is the auto focus. The speed is great, but still slower than Canon/Nikon. I am not a sports photographer, so it does not affect my work, but if blazing fast AF is a big need for you, I would look elsewhere.
My only other complaint is not really about the K-5, but about the Pentax lens lineup. I wish there was a Pentax made zoom lens similar to a 70-200 f2.8. Right now, the options are 50-135 f2.8, or a 60-250 f4. They make a 200 f2.8, but no zooms in that range. The 50-135 actually offers a similar FOV to a FF 70-200, so it isn't that big of a drawback. There are 3rd party options if you absolutely need a lens with those specs.
All in all, this is an AMAZING camera. I am already wish I had a second body, because shooting with my old stuff just doesn't compare. This camera is indeed perfect for my needs.
