Pentax has been around for a long time, so thos looking to buy a camera but are hesitant due to name recognition, need not to worry. $500 for a kit is something i was looking for . I don't have to negotiate between getting a refurbed nor do i have to squeeze out alittle bit - meaning a couple of benjamins more. This dslr does wonder, you just have to learn how to use it.

Got my K-x camera from Adorama and it's better than I imagined it would be. I already have the Pentax K-7 and I wanted a back-up so that I wouldn't have to change lenses so often. But the K-x is so beautiful, (I have the white one)I find myself using it most of the time. It small but not tiny and fits well in my medium sized hands. I love using the digital filters. There are 16 and with them you can turn ordinary photos into beautiful and interesting works of art without using a computer. I have owned many DSLRs and this one has become my favorite. Popular Photography did a full test report of it in the May, 2010 issue. They rate the K-x equal or superior to the Canon Rebel XS or the Nikon D3000 in their tests especially at high ISO. I think it's better in every area.

I bought the Pentax k-x after long consideration. My wife and I were looking for our first DSLR, and we compared the Canon Rebel XSi, the baseline Nikon and the Pentax. After a couple of months of teeth gnashing, we settled on the k-x. Great decision.
I am a "committed casual" photographer, doing mostly landscape and macro work, and we have two kids that demand to be documented. The Pentax has been perfect for all of those uses. It has a fast and fairly accurate auto focus. The included kit lens is perfectly acceptable. The ability to shoot Raw+ jpeg was a huge deciding factor for me. It allows us to shoot landscapes and kids in the same session, and keep the jpegs for emails to the grandparents and the Raw for more artistic shots.
My only complaint thus far has been the noise from the AF and shutter. Neither is excessive, but it's definitely possible to wake a sleeping baby while you're trying to get a good closeup. I suppose a longer lens would solve that problem. Now to convince the wife...
All in all, the Pentax has been everything I've hoped for in my first DSLR. Its built in digital filters and cross processing are a nice touch although I don't use them very often. Great camera for those of us on a budget looking for a camera that doesn't cut corners. Bravo Pentax!

I have used this camera primarily for wildlife photography and have been very impressed with the image quality and stabilization. The features on this camera are extensive, but not overwhelming. Great value for your money.

Bought this Baby in white in a bundle pack back in Nov.12 here at Adorama (thanks Meyer). All I can say is Wow! Very easy to use and the menus are straight forward. Buttons are well placed out. Camera was very compact (for a DSLR) compared to the ones I was comparing to (nikon d5000, Sony A330). I can actually just use one hand to set my settings. Fast auto focus. Good picture quality. Tons of shooting modes available. Never really had any problems with the battery issue even before I upgraded the firmware 1.01. 18-55 kit lens did a good job on our last Cruise vacation. I was averaging 280-320 shots on Eneloops 50% flash before the batt. meter turned orange with some cropping. I recenty acquired a Prime lens D-XENOGON 35mm F2([@] new) which is an actual clone of the famed and now discontinued Pentax 35mm f2. I thought my pictures were sharp with the lens kit but I recently shot this lens on my brothers wedding and OHhhh man, what a difference in picture sharpness and very outstanding color contrast. It just has that POP on every picture I've taken with this lens. Oh yeah...Took 752 shots, 98% with Flash that day before it shut down with Eneloops of course. All in all. I'm very impressed with my Kx. Now paired up with my Prime, it's an unbeatable combo (for now). Sony, Canon, Nikon---watch out.

Pretty good for the money but lacks critical sharpness. However it's still excellent for family pics and you'll never know the difference if you've only used a point and shoot before this.
