Comments about Canon Canon EF 16 - 35mm f/2.8L II USM Ultra Wide Angle Zoom Lens - Canon U.S.A. Warranty:

After a lot of research bought this over the 17-40mm/4.0. Pictures look great, and is fast in low light condition.

I am not a pro, so cannot say if this was the right decision. Not sure if this one is worth twice the price of the other one.

Comments about Canon Canon EF 16 - 35mm f/2.8L II USM Ultra Wide Angle Zoom Lens - Canon U.S.A. Warranty:

Use mostly for photographing large groups of people. I had the last model and upgraded and much improved with operation...very fast and quiet. One thing to know, the cap from the lens will NOT fit on any UV 82MM filter you put on this lens. (At least not one I've found so far) You must use the plastic rubber cap that comes with your 82MM filter. Kind of a bummer as the soft plastic is not as protective as your hard lens cap would be.

Comments about Canon Canon EF 16 - 35mm f/2.8L II USM Ultra Wide Angle Zoom Lens - Canon U.S.A. Warranty:

The build quality is quiet nice, so is the size and the weight of this lens. Filtersize is somewhat large at 82mm, so Filters don't come cheap. I'am very happy with the AF-performance not as happy with the image quality. It's not bad, not at all (actually pretty good), I just expected a bit more (I'am very picky). Distortions are, I think, well controlled for a lens of this zoom range. Overall - this is a very nice lens, fast, good AF, good build quality, a little spendy though, but I recommend it.

Comments about Canon Canon EF 16 - 35mm f/2.8L II USM Ultra Wide Angle Zoom Lens - Canon U.S.A. Warranty:

The 16-35L2 is the updated version of the 16-35.... The L2 designation states that this is the mk2 or version 2....

While the original 16-35 was a great lens, there were some issues, and not all of these issues have been entirely resolved.

With any super wide *assuming you are placing it onto a full frame sensor* there will be some issues, these can include vignetting, chromatic aberration, lens distortion...

The L2 definitely has fixed alot of the previously stated issues, though it is not perfect.

Perfect for architecture and any wide angle photography including, landscape, special effect, etc...

I would say this is probably the perfect architecture lens, other than the much more expensive prime 14mm L....

The 16-35 is very versatile and the 2.8 will help if you are shooting live action allowing you to get a great bokeh and background separation.

Bottom line, this is the best super wide angle zoom out there for the $$$

The lens demonstrates sharp and vivid images at every stop, the images is even sharper at f10 compare to f8. Every detail is clear when zooming to 100%, and is way better than my previous lens(18-200), which blurs when zooming beyond 50%.

Comments about Canon Canon EF 16 - 35mm f/2.8L II USM Ultra Wide Angle Zoom Lens - Canon U.S.A. Warranty:

This is a superb lens. Great optics, build and handling. I see on some websites that some users / reviewers say that, at the wide end of the zoom range (16mm), it has a distorted view. To that I say, hey...it's an EXTREME wide angle zoom lens; whaddya expect?! Buy the 24-70 and you won't have this problem. I personally like the effect and if you are a creative minded person, you'll know how / when to use it!!

This lens was purchased to replace my old FD version. Wow! what an improvement. I loved my old lens and used it consistently. But this lens is a new world. It is lighter and therefore more versatile. It is amazingly quick and quiet. The only thing that drives me nuts is the size of the lens hood but it just has to be that way so as to avoid the issues that existed with my old lens when at full wide angle.

Comments about Canon Canon EF 16 - 35mm f/2.8L II USM Ultra Wide Angle Zoom Lens - Canon U.S.A. Warranty:

After looking into various options for a wider angle on my 1D MkIII, I decided to spend the extra cash for the faster (f2.8)lens (compared to the 17-40 f4 option). I was not too sure how much use I'd get, how much I'd need this, but after having it as my only "walk around" lens while my 24-70 is in for service, I can say this is a great all around lens. Epecially on the 1.3 crop of the MkIII. I have compared images from this lens to some taken by more skilled photographers than myself with their copies, and mine appears to be just as sharp ... given that this lens will be a little soft wide open in the corners. The center stopped down is great, and even wide open at f2.8 it's pretty good!

Comments about Canon Canon EF 16 - 35mm f/2.8L II USM Ultra Wide Angle Zoom Lens - Canon U.S.A. Warranty:

This was a lens I was missing from my bag. I found myself shooting large groups at a wedding in tight quarters and my 24-70 f2.8 was not wide enough.
This lens is great at getting the whole picture in.
I have used it for some closeup special effects but it is great for landscape and large group shots.
The filter size is 82mm so your other filters will not fit, but other than that it is one of the top Canon lenses out there. Like everything else good, you pay for it.(I'm still paying...)
This lens seems to be the sharpest of all the ones I own(24-70mm f2.8 takes second place and the 70-200mm f2.8 third). It's been through several hundred shots already.

Comments about Canon Canon EF 16 - 35mm f/2.8L II USM Ultra Wide Angle Zoom Lens - Canon U.S.A. Warranty:

I've owned the old 20-35 4.5/5.6, the 17-35 2.8L and now currently use this. It's the best image quality by far, and quite sharper in the corners than the old 17-35 2.8L which really wasn't much better than the 20-35 though it cost far more. It's not that big of a lens for what it does, and on a 1.6 crop DSLR it hits a pretty sweet range, though does have some distortion. It will vigenette slightly on a FF body at the wide end.

I often use it to shoot some architectural models and the perspectives it renders, even though distorted with the requisite chromatic aberration in the corners, are very attention-grabbing. If you shoot interiors with it, be prepared to edit some distortion out.

Shoot above f/5.6 and below f/16, you'll get some optically sharp, contrasty images. Don't shoot it wide open unless you have no other choice. If you don't mind a non-screw lenscap, it's best to use a "slim" screw-in filter. Beware, 82mm means you're buying new ones vs. the old 77mm, and it's costly.

I'd certainly buy it again without hesitation, it's a very good product.
