Another great EF-S lens.. This seems to be the next version of the old 18-55mm EF-S lens that came in so many bundles, and makes a good replacement for that aging lens you might've had for years and years that's finally grown fungus or decided to give you Error 99.
I use it for all my general-purpose needs; self-portraits on a tripod, close photography bordering on macro work (note that the minimum focal range is just under a foot), and everything that doesn't require a more specialized lens like the 50mm f1.8 or 75-300mm zoom.
I don't entirely understand why Canon had to stablize this lens, however. I see little need for stablization in such a short lens. Then again, in low light I'm more likely to pull out a faster lens or a flash, while other photographers might try to "stick it out" with this lens.
That having been said, this is a great general-purpose lens, and excellent for when you have to be in fairly close quarters with your subject.

Comments about Canon Canon EF-S 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6 IS Auto Focus Lens:
Have only had the chance to use the lens a few times but have been happy with it so far. Can't beat the price but still thinking I should of waited and saved up for a faster lens.

Just an amateur but for a long time. Had an original EF but that broke & I bought this one. I've been using it for about a month. Fits as an all around lens that serves my needs. Quick and easy.

Comments about Canon Canon EF-S 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6 IS Auto Focus Lens:
This lens filled a hole in my lens collection that I did not know I had. The IS (image stabilization) really allows me to take shots with the shutter speed of 1/20. And with a aperture of 5.6 or so, you get a very decent amount of depth of field (area in focus). You would be able to get a similar amount of light with a high speed lens (F 1.8) at a shutter speed you can hand hold, but your DoF would be very shallow. I am very happy with this lens and it is a great value.

Comments about Canon Canon EF-S 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6 IS Auto Focus Lens:
Lets face it, it is a kit lens. For what I paid for it I am not complaining. The casing on it feels very cheap but I have not had any issues with it. Quality is right about middle of the road, maybe a little better than that. For a first lens its fine, but if you are planning on getting more into this as even a part time job you are going to want something a little better. Overall I am happy with it for a first lens.

Comments about Canon Canon EF-S 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6 IS Auto Focus Lens:
I bought a Canon body and a lens from another manufacturer. The pictures were "okay" but not up to the standards our clients expect. This lens makes the difference between okay and great!

Comments about Canon Canon EF-S 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6 IS Auto Focus Lens:
A great little lens, although I wish the would come up with a "kit lens" that started at 14mm focal length and went to 75mm or 80mm for these cameras.

I upgraded from the non IS kit lens. It makes more sense to me. I have a tripod, but can't always take it or use it. This way I can still "get the shot".

this is a better lens than the rebel kit lens 18-55 11.contrast and color are better, sharpness a little.did notice some purple fringing when taking some landscape shots but not all the time.image stabilization does work but not as well as expected.for the price its ok.

Comments about Canon Canon EF-S 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6 IS Auto Focus Lens:
This lens is very good with taking portraits and still life shots when you have lots of light, but I was quite disappointed with landscapes. Blurry edges and noisy details with anything above ISO 200.. Get something else if you want an all-around walk-around lens (like the 28-135 IS USM or the 24-85)..
great with lots of light and up close..

Comments about Canon Canon EF-S 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6 IS Auto Focus Lens:
Consistantly Sharp Images for my Wedding Group Pictures and also did a good job during the actual ceremony (granted I used this as a back-up but it performed well anyway). First time use did not disappoint and the Image Stabilization definitely makes a difference. Can't think of another lens that compares in this price catagory. Canon got this one right. This one also comes as a kit lens with the Rebel XSI.

Comments about Canon Canon EF-S 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6 IS Auto Focus Lens:
I read about the reviews from this lens like everyone else and was surprised at the positive thoughts coming from what seemed to be everyone. For very little coin, it seemed this baby was IQ and performance-wise besting the 17-85 and giving the 17-55 a run for it's money. After 6 months of hype, I just had to see if the lens could hold up to this praise. Well, I am here to tell you that from a "IQ" standpoint, this baby is easily as good and in some cases better than the 17-85 at half the price. Of course, this is nothing of the fact the 17-85 is in a whole different class concerning build quality, USM, FTM, and overall feel. This is most certainly not as good as the 17-55, but for the price it is probably the best standard zoom value for 1.6 FOVCF Canon DSLRs. If you can live without the better build lens... The 18-55 IS will provide you with what I have found to be consistently better IQ for less coin.

This is a remarkable value for your money. If you want play the glass snob then by all means dig deep and only buy L series, but if you want a decent zoom for a bargin, this is it! [@]

Comments about Canon Canon EF-S 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6 IS Auto Focus Lens:
Kit lens quality.[...] The sharpness is just not there. The IS is great, but you need the IS because it is not a very fast lens. It might work for a casual user, but for a hobbyist or someone just getting started...get better glass.

Comments about Canon Canon EF-S 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6 IS Auto Focus Lens:
This lens really surprised me in that it is very sharp. The IS works well and helps in low light. While it is not the fastest lens, at this price it is well worth it.
