I bought this lens as a replacement for the original 'kit' lens that came with my Canon EOS 20D. I wanted it primarily because of the IS feature, which the original does not have. When I got it, however, I discovered that it's a much more solid ('tighter') lens than the original, with far less play in the zoom collar. And with the IS turned on, I don't have to worry with a tripod for taking macro shots of HO scale models at shows and contests. It's a winner, as far as I'm concerned.

Bought this lens to provide me with some image stabilizing help for a general use lens in a guy with a bit of new tremor (getting older). Decent, but no better than my old 28-105 zoom. The ES lens is a little less sharp. Not impressed, BUT for the person just getting started and on a budget, I think it would be a good general use lens.
