This is an all around awesome lens, well worth the extra dollars to buy it. Great walk around lens which produces great photos. I use this almost exclusively for almost all my photography. Don't let the refurbished label scare you as it's like brand new.

There is no doubt that this model is a superior lens, in general. However, My particular lens has an issue with the stabilization module. During the warranty period the noise I heard seemed to fit with descriptions of normal IS function. Then shortly after the warranty period, the noise became a clunking sound and the image would jump around in the viewfinder. This happens occasionally. Often, turning IS off and back on corrects the problem for a time. This was my first, and probably last, refurb purchase

This lens is one of the best lenses in this range made. The only thing that is not excellent with this lens is the somewhat mediocre bokeh (the quality of the background blur). The bokeh is not horrible, but it's not very good. Everything else about this lens is top of the line -- focus speed and accuracy, contrast, clarity, sharpness, etc. It is one of Canon's best non-specialty lenses that I've used.This lens is weather-sealed. I bought it for the dust resistance, and have not had an issue in rain. (You should always be careful when zooming a wet or dusty barrel, however.)24mm is a little bit long for 1.6FOVCF sensors (i.e., all EOS canons except the 1D, 1Ds, and 5D series). For the 7D, 60D and Rebels, you will often want a lens that has a wider field of view, such as the 15-85 or 17-55. But if you usually shoot long, this lens still works great on a Rebel.This lens works with an off-brand 1.4 teleconverter for a much longer reach. You cannot use a 2.0x teleconverter except in manual focus.I highly recommend this lens if you need this particular range.[...]Suffice it to say the clarity and sharpness of this lens is excellent.

This lens is great for situations where you need a variety of focal lengths but don't want to carry a lot of different lenses. It is super high quality, sharp and great focus. Much higher quality than cheaper zooms. Expensive but worth it.

Great lens!!! I bought mine referbished. I have shot with it on a full-frame sensor on a friends camera and was concerned about the crop factor on an APC sized sensor on my Canon 50D. Well, put your worries to rest. The lens performs flawlessly. The image stabilization works wonderful and my pics are razor sharp. What a difference "L" glass makes. The lens shows minor lens creep, but nothing to worry about. I just shot a wedding with it and never had to put it on a tripod indoors or out. Buy it!!!

IMO this is the best all purpose lens that Canon makes. Great range of zoom, autofocus is very fast, and image quality is excellent. The only way this lens could be any better is if it was made in f/2.8.

This is a very sharp lens and the image stabilization has made it very useful in the field. I do a lot of landscape photography and some in low light. It is a perfect range for general use.

There are many debates out there about whether to get this lens or the 24-70 f/2.8. Unless you are shooting to freeze motion, the addition of IS on this lens makes it much more useful for general purpose shooting. The build quality is top notch just as one would expect from a L lens. Image quality is great, although slightly soft at 24mm and f/4.

The 24-105mm Canon lens I bought was refurbished. I saved a few hundreds dollars and the lens itself is as good as new! The condition was 10/10 when I received it, and I've been using it for about 4 months now. I took it with me on a few trips to foreign countries and it was a pleasure to use. Produces beautiful images, the IS is a handy feature, and the focal range is one of the best for a general purpose zoom.

This is my second purchase of this lens. I recently bought a refurbished MK3 and a refurbished 24-105 .
Gave my the other 24-105 and a 30D to the wife so we would both have walk around lenses.
This is, in my opinion, one of the best "L" lenses that Canon has made.
The lens is quite versatile for most shooting scenarios and light enough to carry all day long.
If your considering one lens to purchase, make it the 24-105. I don't think you will be disappointed

Great buy! You can't tell the difference between new and refub. Your photographs tells you stories of places, family, especially kids growing up. When they are gone to start a family of their own. All they left you are memories of the time you shared with them. This is the reason why I bought this lens, to shoot high quality pictures, the EF 24-105 general purpose lens. Expensive but photographs of the past are price less.

Actually I even prefer the refurbished lens over new ones, because it got special care if any problems, such as front focus/back focus, or soft focus. I got one and it shows no difference with a new one. very happy

As the other reviewer said, the refurbished lens is just like new with no sign of usage. Only it comes in a big yellow box with Canon label and gold "refurbished" sticker on the lens cap. Will report back if it has longevity problems later on. But I really have a good feeling about it.

Have had this lens for around a month. Yesterday took it as a walkabout lens in Mesilla, New Mexico. It was the only lens I took and it was on my Canon 40D. As I had purchased it as 'refurbished' I knew that it should be correct optically and mechanically in every Canon way. I was right. From a wide angle ( allowing for the 1.6 crop) to the larger tele format, excellent. I found a very large jar filled with the same type of flower but in about 5 different colors. I also found a Mesilla fire hydrant, faded pink and yellow. When I got home I downloaded from the camera to my MacBook. I copied the shots into digital pro, Adobe CS3, Lightroom and Lightworks. The colors were fantastic, and saw no sign of vignetting at the wide 24. Even the semi-macro came out reasonably well with the len's IS on. They would have been ideal if I had wanted to lug around a tripod, but that would have taken away from my testing.
