Comments about Canon Canon EF 28mm f/1.8 USM AutoFocus Wide Angle Lens - Refurbished by Canon U.S.A.:

I got this lens to be able to shoot indoor events without flash. My 50mm 1.4 was too long on my 1.6x crop body... this lens is perfect!!

Image quality is superb, nice bokeh, consistent focus. The quality of the refurbished lens was perfect!!

Comments about Canon Canon EF 28mm f/1.8 USM AutoFocus Wide Angle Lens - Refurbished by Canon U.S.A.:

I'm not sure if refurbished lenses are any different from new. But this lens is soft wide open. doesn't really sharpen up until 2.8 to 3.5. So what's the point of having a speed of 1.8? Maybe a new lens would be sharper. I'm puzzled why Canon doesn't make a better 28 mm lens. This would be the perfect prime for crop sensor SLRs. it's small, focuses fast, looks great on the camera. Instead, I am sticking with the 17-55mm f 2.8 EF-S zoom. It's much sharper and image stabilized. Canon needs to make better prime lenses that can take advantage of the great crop sensor cameras they are putting out.

Comments about Canon Canon EF 28mm f/1.8 USM AutoFocus Wide Angle Lens - Refurbished by Canon U.S.A.:

I went against my better judgment and ordered this lens despite having read reviews that noted its problems with color fringing and edge softness. It turns out the reviews were right. Heavy cyan and magenta fringes abound wherever there are strong contrasts. Even at f/8, even on a crop-frame sensor, edges are quite blurry (and on full-frame it's even worse). It's a real pity because this lens could have been great. It focuses quickly (ring USM) and it's very sharp in the center.

Can be irregularly soft wide open, but sharpens nicely by f/2ish... Focus as fast and accurate. I use it when I need a faster lens and it works for me.
