Comments about Canon Canon EF 28mm f/2.8 AutoFocus Wide Angle Lens - Refurbished By Canon USA:
this thing is built like a tank! I dropped mine down 12 hardwood steps onto tile flooring, and then it bounced into the front door, which is hardwood as well. I was thinking so many profane things in my head, but when I picked it up, it was totally fine. The focus seemed messed up, but *click* and it snapped back in place. It uses 52 filters, which are very economical. It's more usable than the nifty fifty because it has a wider angle, and yields better images. Did I mention it's not nearly as plasticy as the nifty fifty? The autofocus is fast considering it sounds like its running on a deisel engine. There's a very loud motorized noise when autofocusing (not good for weddings or anything in a quiet environment), and there is no full time manual focus, so I usually just leave it in manual. This lens is noted as being better for infrared photography for some reason, probably because it is "fast" and sharp all around even at f2.8. I paid 195 for mine, and would probably be willing to pay at least 250. I just wish Canon made an ef-s version that wasnt plasticy so the true wide angle was there. It acts like a "44.8mm" on my canon 30d as well as any other 1.6 cropping factor lens.
