Great lens. I shoot these photos from an airborn plane with an open door. Look at the details as we zoom in !

Comments about Canon Canon EF 28-300mm f/3.5-5.6L IS USM AutoFocus Wide Angle Telephoto Zoom Lens - Gray Market:

Don't believe the nay sayers about this lens. About 5 online reviews said this not good lens. They are wrong because they attempted to compare it to limited zoom lens and prime lens. Basically a Bently is not going to be faster on the autoban than a porsche. A porsche will not have the stocked bar in the back seat and LCD screens for your viewing. They both luxury car build for different needs. This is the same with this lens.
This lens will provide sharp images every time.

Cons:
1. Very Heavy. As a matter of fact the Ruger Super Redhawk .44 mag weights 53oz = 3.3125 lbs. The Cannon weights 3.7 lbs. Hmmm...

2. Push/pull zoom. It is just not user friendly when I need to zoom on the fly.

Pros:
1. Lens does it all.
2. Sharp images within f/7.2 - f11. I can live with fact.
3. Much respect from other shooters. You will get many looks from shooters with Lens envy in their eyes.

A tripod is always good for telephoto work but not a necessity with this lens(as stated in another review). Its weight helps stabilize it. I've takens tons of excellent pictures with this lens handheld. No lens is perfect but the broad range of uses for this lens makes it extremely versatile. The optics are great. Photos are as shot

This is a very versitile lens. The quality is very good. Remember if you don't have a full frame sensor but a cropped one such as the 40d and all of the rebels you will get about 465 mm on full zoom but not as much wide angle. This lens is not for the hobbyist. It weighs almost 4lbs and needs to be on a tripod. For the hobbyist I would suggest the Tamron 28-300 vc lens. It is small, light weight and has Tamrons version of image stableization. I use this lens when I'm just out shooting for fun. I use the Canon with my 5d for serious landscape photography. It is far better than the Tamron but and average photographer won't be able to tell the difference.

Comments about Canon Canon EF 28-300mm f/3.5-5.6L IS USM AutoFocus Wide Angle Telephoto Zoom Lens - Gray Market:

I have both this lense and the 70-200mm 2.8 IS. I use this as my primary lense for most of my action photography work. The broad focal range coupled with the slide zoom makes this lens ideal for quickly changing situations. Although not as fast as the 70-200, the flexibility makes up for it in my book. Be careful of the autofocus switch, it is easy to accidently slide to off.
