Therange is great as well as the sharpness, colorand clarity throught the range (28-300mm)with or with out flash indoors or out. I really like this lens and it's capabilities and am happy to own it

I used this from a Wedding to macros to landscape. The only draw back is it is heavy, but well worth it with fewer lense changes, and quality is superior

Really great lense but the weight. It is like carrying a barbell in my back pack. However I am carrying one lense less compare to carrying a 70-200mm and a 24-105mm. The quality of image is awesome.

This lens is great. I was constantly changing lens before, now I have the lens on and can very quickly go from near to far. The Image Stabilization feature is one I didn't have on my old lens and now would not do without it.

Comments about Canon Canon EF 28-300mm f/3.5-5.6L IS USM AutoFocus Wide Angle Telephoto Zoom Lens - USA:

I purchased the EF28-300mm f/3.5-5.6L IS USM lens for my EOS 40D after grueling over it for months. It's a lot of money but after using it, it worth every dime. I had been using the 28-135mm lens and always found myself short in focal length for some shots. The 135mm just isn't enough for many shots. So, I searched and searched and found this lens.

The lens is heavy as others have mentioned but the quality of the photos will ease your pain! I have a couple of different bags to carry it in, depending upon the situation. Let's face it guys & gals, you don't get "something for nothing!" You want that life like shot at any light condition and, you want it at wide angle &/or telephoto ranges; so don't complain!

Canon's quality is obvious in all aspects of this lens from the stabilization system to the fast focus speeds. As you can tell, I in love! This is truly a magnificent lens. It is the 5th Canon Lens that I own. If quality, reliability, flexibility, stability and speed are your game and you take your photography seriously, then this lens is for you. After all, you can buy another body but a lens you keep for a life time.

Comments about Canon Canon EF 28-300mm f/3.5-5.6L IS USM AutoFocus Wide Angle Telephoto Zoom Lens - USA:

Just got back from Arizona-Utah photo shoot of the national parks. This lens has given me superb, sharp images even at full extension. What I have been very pleasantly surprised about is it's ability to obtain fairly good long distance photos in lower light. The image stabilizer is a big help. Other reviews noted the heaviness of the lens. Were they right! I need to hire a lens bearer for long hiikes. On the other hand, for me it was definitely worth the purchase. I have a large size LowePro backpack and it fits fine attached to the camera. Overall length with camera attached (and fully retracted for storage) is 10.25 inches.
WARNING! Buy a model with the lens tripod mount. The weight won't allow safe use by attaching to the tripod via the camera.

This lens is the top of the line in performance
and quality.I own 24-105 L &100-400 L and the
28-300 is equal in IQ range etc. I found the only
problem was the weight it is not a walkabout lens
unless you work out with weight's and will still
wear on you after a few hours without a strap and
harness system.

Comments about Canon Canon EF 28-300mm f/3.5-5.6L IS USM AutoFocus Wide Angle Telephoto Zoom Lens - USA:

I do a lot of sports photograhy and started with only one body. This lens replaced my 70 to 300. The 70mm is just too much when the action suddenly comes to you. I never miss the shot now, near or far.
The IS, for me, makes this a nearly perfect lens. That feature alone has moved my action shots from snap shots to quality photography.
The zoom on the 28-300 is a push-pull rather than rotating he barel. I love tha feature especially in creative situations. For me, is gives you smooth movement through the entire zoom range while shooting all the time.
It is a little heavy. I started out hand holding it. The IS makes that chore easier, but a mono pod makes me last longer.
I have had this lens for 11/2 years now and I am still supprised how clear and crisp my action shots are. Use a Canon 30D and 50D and my shots are always in focus. Low light or wide landscapes will confused the auto focus, but being able to manually focus while in auto mode is a shot saver.
How could it be improved? Canon does not make a Extension lens for the 28-300, too bad and f2.8 would be nice, but I have never missd a shot regardless of the light.

If I could only take one lens with me on a shoot, this would be it regardless of the assignment.

Comments about Canon Canon EF 28-300mm f/3.5-5.6L IS USM AutoFocus Wide Angle Telephoto Zoom Lens - USA:

This is a very impressive lens but you need to have reasonable expectations.

The huge advantage of this lens is its' range. I simply don't have time to be switching lenses all the time. Within a few seconds I may need to capture some wide-angle action or zoom in on a special face across the room. Carrying multiple lenses and switching is not always practical. I'd rather "get the shot" than miss it completely while fumbling to get perfect lens out of my bag.

Is it as sharp as a prime lens or a limited zoom (such as 70-200L)? Probably not but it is certainly well within the acceptable quality range for professional prints of moderate size.

The images are bright and crisp. I’ve tried lenses of similar range by Tamron and Sigma but this is another example of you get what you pay for. The Canon 28-300 provides a much higher image quality but that’s reflected in the cost of the lens.

Also, this lens is large and very HEAVY (Instead of a tripod mount I'd recommend a trailer hitch)! It’s not something you’re going to slip in a coat pocket. It’s excellent when you want to do some serious photography of rapidly changing situations (i.e. weddings, parties, graduations, etc). This monster will certainly separate you from the Point and Shoot crowd. The weight takes some getting used to but it’s not a show-stopper.

Zoom is easy to use and the auto focus is fast and dead-on accurate even in fairly low light. The image stabilizer gives you an extra 2 stops.

Bottom line: If you're a pixel peeper that insists on absolute perfection in a light weight housing, keep looking because this lens is not for you (I personally don’t think that lens exists). But if you're a realist and you need to quickly "get the shot" without sacrificing quality, this lens will be an excellent choice. The impressive range and image quality makes this lens worthy of "L" name and high cost. This has quickly become my favorite lens.

Comments about Canon Canon EF 28-300mm f/3.5-5.6L IS USM AutoFocus Wide Angle Telephoto Zoom Lens - USA:

The lense IS a little heavy and not good during "overcase" conditions where it tricks the camera settings. But if you're using a flash or normal daylight conditions, this is aces!

Nice clear, crisp photos.

Only drawback is that the setting switches move easily so make sure you double check them when you take it out of the bag.

Failed the 5th star for weight and switches. Other than that can't find any problems.
