i bought this extender to go with my ef 100-400mm f/4.5-5.6L is usm lens. the auto focus does not work with this lens when using the extender. i talked with canon and they confirmed that af will not work with this lens, even though their literature claims it is compatable. if you plan on any action photos, this extender is not right for you.

Also have 1.4X I, the 2X III is definitely worth having. Sharpness is much improved over previous versions. Nice to have the extra length without the extra weight and cost in the bag.
