Comments about Canon Canon EF 35mm f/1.4L USM AutoFocus Wide Angle Lens - USA:

I rented this lens for a week and I'm probably going to buy it. It was incredibly sharp. For portrait shots, you have to get pretty close to your subject, but that's actually convenient when shooting babies or small children.

If they would fix the C.A., this would be the perfect lens. I use it on a 1D mk IV, so it has a similar field of view as a 50mm on a full-frame.

Comments about Canon Canon EF 35mm f/1.4L USM AutoFocus Wide Angle Lens - USA:

The 35/1.4 is a beautiful lens. It focuses quickly and silently. Image quality is top notch, and bokeh at sub-f/2 is stunning. I have shot several thousand images using this lens and am very satisfied with its performance. This lens works really well for family group shots, landscapes and urbanscapes, low light shots and portraits (full body not closeup head/shoulders). I suggest leaving the lens hood on all the time to avoid flare and to protect the glass.
I have used many other lenses that include a 35mm focal length (including 35/f2, 18-55, 17-55, 18-200), and personally I feel the 35/1.4 beats them hands down!

Comments about Canon Canon EF 35mm f/1.4L USM AutoFocus Wide Angle Lens - USA:

Just bought 35L about a month and used in my trip to Cancun along with my 24-105L and 70-200f2.8IS on my 40D. The sharpness( even wide open) and saturated colors off my photos from this Lens is better than my zoom L lens. Love how it can handle the low light shots while f2.8 sometime is difficult. On 40d, it is very good portrait Lens to take full body portrait with great bokeh.

Comments about Canon Canon EF 35mm f/1.4L USM AutoFocus Wide Angle Lens - USA:

I have used this lens for nearly three years now, and the more I use it the more I love it.
It gives very similar feel images to my zeiss 35mm on my Contax, and it is sharp from 1.4 up. Its sweet spot is around f2.8 to f4 where its clarity and vividness comes alive. Even if Canon bring out a new version one day, I dont have any reasons to part with this beauty.
As good as my 135L, 85LII and 300L 2.8IS.
Well done Canon in producing the finest AUTOFOCUS fast 35mm ever.

This is a great length for indoor people photography on crop cameras. Should be perfect for low light shots without flash. My copy has been to Canon twice and it is still blurry below 2.0. Those who get a good copy really like this lens, as would I if mine worked.

Comments about Canon Canon EF 35mm f/1.4L USM AutoFocus Wide Angle Lens - USA:

Nice but limited use 1.4 lens. I use it for low light music and theater performances capturing a dark auditorium and audience. The 35 mm is too long to be a wide angle lens and too short for stage images or portraits.

Comments about Canon Canon EF 35mm f/1.4L USM AutoFocus Wide Angle Lens - USA:

not as sharp as the cheaper 50mm 1.4L at wide open aperture.

the lens performs well at f/2.0, but not worth the extra 800 bucks.

their built quality are also inconsistent. had to return the first one, the quality was even worse.

Comments about Canon Canon EF 35mm f/1.4L USM AutoFocus Wide Angle Lens - USA:

Very nice addition to a zoom-based lens inventory. I'm shooting a Canon 40D. With the 35/1.4, I get an effective 56mm effective focal length, about as close to a "normal" lens as I can find in primes.

Overall, I'm very impressed with build quality and optical image. That wide open aperture makes for some very creatively tight depth-of-field shots. Definitely a winner in my book.

Comments about Canon Canon EF 35mm f/1.4L USM AutoFocus Wide Angle Lens - USA:

I tried this lens on a 20D, but the tight crop wasted its potential. This was my first lens purchase just for the 5D. I recently took it on a trip to Italy with 2-L zooms from 16~70 and an 85 prime. Left them in the hotels...I wanted to see if I could revisit my M4-2& P w/35 mm Summ. RF days. With the great low light 5D ability, I was able to use the combo in dim restaurants, churches, museums, interior portraits and candids, street scenes, scenics, whatever, wherever. Never used flash. Fast focusing, bright vwf image, accurate color just a great all around combination...5D FF and 35/L. There were just a couple of times when the 24/L would have been handy in tight streets and interiors.

Canon EF 35mm F1.4 L - Outstanding
By GeorgeVerified Reviewer from Sydney AUSTRALIA on 8/12/2006
Best Uses:
Portrait/Wedding

Comments about Canon Canon EF 35mm f/1.4L USM AutoFocus Wide Angle Lens - USA:

Mated to an EOS 1Ds this lens is superb. Open up to F1.4 the lens is sharp and detailed. Contrast is excellent. Depth of field is only an issue when subject to camera distances are small. Otherwise focusing is not as critical as the 85mm F1.2.
Some lens flaring or chromatic abberation is evident when wide open (F1.4, although many very fast lenses exhibit this;no evident approaching F2.0 and above.
Buy and use with confidence. Use it in a church or apartment and shoot with ambient lightting. This is a must lens. Distortion is also minimal although evident slightly when there are architectual lines alonh the edge of the frame.
