It's hard to get used to not having a zoom feature on a lens, but you become accustomed to the no-zoom feature of the 50mm. It's great for portraits, natural or posed.

This is one of my fastest and cheapest lens. I have made some awesome pictures with it. I recently bought its bigger bro, EF 50mm f/1.4, but I am still not selling this baby. It makes a light, high-IQ backup lens.

Comments about Canon Canon EF 50mm f/1.8 II Standard AutoFocus Lens - Gray Market:
One of the best purchase decisions I've made for my camera. The 1.8 aperture is 3-4 times as fast as kit lenses and most zooms, perfect for night scenes and available-light portraits. It's also as sharp as most L-series zooms at f5.6. MF is smooth and fairly accurate when gaging focus through the viewfinder. The AF is surprisingly quick and silent, and is usable even in most night scenes. It also works well in still-life and lightbox setups, with a short focus distance and decent magnification and detail. My only problem is that the focus mode switch is fairly hard to flip. The zoom length is manageable on a crop-frame camera like the Rebel XTi, but bear in mind that a typical family portrait would require standing 10-20 feet away. However, at this price, this lens should be in every enthusiast's bag.

Comments about Canon Canon EF 50mm f/1.8 II Standard AutoFocus Lens - Gray Market:
I wasn't quite sure what I was going to get. I knew the 50mm, f2.8 were specs that you would find in much more expensive lenses. The housing may be plastic and look a little on the cheap side but don't be fooled. This little jewel takes some great photos. I have used it for portraits in available light situations and the pictures are amazing. Very clean and crisp. This is probably the best deal around.

Comments about Canon Canon EF 50mm f/1.8 II Standard AutoFocus Lens - Gray Market:
This is one of those lenses which are priced so low that it is unbelievable how good their results are. This lens is one of the best I have been using lately. Making portraits with this lens is a breeze. Though it may not give you a great range like some zoom, you will be more than satisfied with the sharpness at f1.8. Bokeh with this lens is excellent.
Only thing that I can crib about will be that its construction is not metal. But then I knew what I will get at under 100. AF makes a little noise and lens tend to hunt for focus under "extremely" dim lights, but thats something I can live with.
The bottom line is I am very satisfied with the lens and would not trade it for anything.

Comments about Canon Canon EF 50mm f/1.8 II Standard AutoFocus Lens - Gray Market:
This is simply the best lens for the price you pay! It consistently captures tack sharp images and is simply a joy for everyday use.
The lens is very lightweight and may seem "cheaply" constructed. You definitely need to take care of this lens as most of it is plastic and seems quite fragile. AF can be a little noisy, but for the money you simply can't beat this little beauty!
