Comments about Canon Canon EF-S 55-250mm f/4-5.6 IS Image Stabilizer - Refurbished:

For the money you can't get a better lens. I bought this to pair with my 18-55 kit lens on my T2i and since it's a crop body, I get an effective 85-400 mm in a light body. The sharpness at the longer ends is just amazing in such a light and inexpensive lens. At one point I thought I would replace this setup with an 18-270 from Tamron for almost $700 with the idea that the quality of the more expensive lens would offset the wider zoom range. But I was mistaken. Even at just 250mm, that lens was much softer. I sent it back and won't replace this until I can get some L glass.
It is a bit fuzzy on the wide end and wide open. When you get to 55mm, you are best to switch to a different lens if you can't shoot over f8.

Excellent Lens - Awesome Price!

Comments about Canon Canon EF-S 55-250mm f/4-5.6 IS Image Stabilizer - Refurbished:

Consistently fast and accurate auto-focus. Build quality good, but not Pro quality... with that said, the lens is light and much more comfortable to carry around. The heavy L-Glass is not for everyone. The lens has low distortion throughout all focal lengths, but vignetting is higher than normal at f/4-f/5.6... by f/8 vignetting is a non-issue. The lens is sharper at 55mm than 250mm... gets "softer" starting around 135mm. Center sharpness never gets "razor" sharp, but edge-to-edge performance is impressive and is very good throughout all focal lengths... color and contrast is also very good. Image stabilization makes this lens an all around winner... very little "fuzzy" images taken with this lens. Excellent performance for the price... for [$] refurbished the lens is an absolute steal!

I was a tad leery about a refurbished lens and was very much relieved when I opened the package. What I found was a lens that cosmetically was brand spanking new. (Canon either did an excellent job with the refurbishment, or they pulled a brand new lens from the line)But, would it work like a new one?I headed out the door and down to the lake and the lens performed flawlessly. While the warranty is not as new, I figure if the lens works today, it will work period.I can see myself buying refurbs again from Adorama. I know them, and have been using thier products for years [...]

This was my second 55-250 refurb. Both arrived with no detectable flaw, sign of wear, fingerprint. It's a lot of fun to use and focusses close enough for some basic macro play. IS is especially effective. I think this lens is under rated. But be willing to be careful with it.

Comments about Canon Canon EF-S 55-250mm f/4-5.6 IS Image Stabilizer - Refurbished:

This is my first telephoto lens, which I purchased to go along with my first DSLR - a Canon T2i. I didn't purchase the kit lens, but rather this one and a 50mm. Anyway, with this being my first zoom lens, I don't have much to compare it to, but I have loved using it so far. I haven't found many 'cons' at all. I use it for photographing my kids (especially on the soccer field) and for some nature photos. It seems very fast to focus to me, and I have gotten some good creative shots with it- with things focused in the front and blurry in the background. I haven't used it much for inside photography, so I can't say much for low-light, and I haven't had it long enough to say how durable it is, but it seems well-made to me. I am very happy with it [...] and the lens seems brand new even though it is refurbished.

I always admired this lens when I didn't own one. Now that I purchased it I like it even more. And refurbished [...]means better than new because I think the refurbished ones are checked out and calibrated better than the new ones which just run off the assembly line. The only thing I don't like is the plastic lens mount-I see that Canon has corrected this in the new 18-135mm by reverting to using a metal mount.

I am very happy with this lens. I didn't want to put "heavy" with cons. I am a casual photographer who enjoys photographing pets. This lens allows me to capture a good shot without spooking the subject. The auto focus has worked for me as long as I remember it when my subject isn't front and center in the frame.

should have known better to buy used. When it arrived it had an oily coating on front and rear elements which took over a half hour to try to clean and still had very light coating. Dust INSIDE the lens also. Very hard to focus on auto. Blurry at top end,[...] Will possibly go with Sigma next order.

I am so glad I got the IS. In good lighting situations the IS may not matter but indoors with low-light, the IS makes a big difference. I love using this lense at my kid's baseball games. When far away from the subject and zoomed in on the subject, it gives great background blur. Even the simple pictures I took at the park turned out great because of this lense!

I'm new into photography and I wanted something that could help get some distance. I came from an older point and shoot that was one of the first to offer a 12x optical zoom. This lens doesn't quite reach that but the results it gets are much better than my previous camera!

I was a little concerned about getting a refurbished lens but I needed to save some money. As far as I can tell my fears were unfounded as I'm really happy with this lens!

I went through the reviews at a number of sites and got what was expected, a lens that for the price is hard to beat. I can't justify the price of a long L series lens, but with judicial framing to minimize cropping in the print this will do fine. I would recommend this lens.

Comments about Canon Canon EF-S 55-250mm f/4-5.6 IS Image Stabilizer - Refurbished:

I bought this lens to complement the kit EF-S 18-55 lens that came with the Canon T1i. My back yard is woodsy, and I really wanted to be able to take pictures of birds, deer, and other critters I could see out the back window.

So far, I couldn't be happier with this lens. The image stabilization seems to really work -- I've been able to take some fabulous pictures of birds at maximum zoom, without using a tripod! As they say, the IS can't compensate for the _target's_ movement, so it's not as if it makes every picture magical, but it certainly makes it a lot better!

For a casual photographer like me, the quality of the lens for the price was well worth it.

When comparing this lens to others on offer, you won't find anything with this level of performance from any other manufacturer at this price point.

Auto focus, unless you set an auto focus point (I have my XSi setup for the center point with this lens), is VERY slow. If you plan on photographing wildlife, such as squirrels or birds or anything else really, and you wish to rely on auto focus, you MUST set an auto focus point, otherwise your shots WILL turn out blurry.

Great deal & great lens! Images are very sharp. Image Stabilization does a great job. The lens is not that light, but lighter and sharper than the 70-300mm.

Comments about Canon Canon EF-S 55-250mm f/4-5.6 IS Image Stabilizer - Refurbished:

This lens is perfect for the average person who wants a telephoto lens with IS. It is lighter, sharper, smaller and quieter than my Tamron 70-300 Di LD Macro. I purchased this as a refurb and couldn't be happier. I couldn't think of any bad points necessarily, obviously there are far superior lenses in the L lineup, but anyone who is looking to purchase this, probably can't afford the L lenses :)

Comments about Canon Canon EF-S 55-250mm f/4-5.6 IS Image Stabilizer - Refurbished:

I mostly shoot wildlife and scenery. This is a great lens for short distances. A bird at 10 - 15ft looks great. One at 30 feet or further you get some issues. Lens is predictable. You learn your limitations quickly. You can see the vignetting in the view finder.

You want an expensive or super-tele lens, but need something to shoot with now, go for it! If you have the money, don't waste it on this lens.

Comments about Canon Canon EF-S 55-250mm f/4-5.6 IS Image Stabilizer - Refurbished:

Good zoom range at 88-400 mm equivalent. Average speed. Good for portraits at the low end with relatively shallow DoF at f4.0 @ 55mm. The IS adds 2-3 f-stops on the low end of the attached camera's range. An additional, and not advertised bonus, is its ability to take close-up at 1:<3.0 ratio. At 250mm the lens will focus on about a 4x6 inch area. Nice.
Good, but not wonderful, picture quality, but great considering the price.

As someone who is just getting into the more advanced aspects of dSLR photography, I wanted to expand my capabilities without spending a ton of cash. This lens is perfect for that - it gives you a great zoom range, with image stabilization, for a budget price tag. Of course it's not a fast lens (aperture or focus), and does show slight vignetting at the corners, but an amateur like me can live with those sacrifices. There was no sign of it being refurbished, so I'm very happy with my purchase.

Comments about Canon Canon EF-S 55-250mm f/4-5.6 IS Image Stabilizer - Refurbished:

I bought this lens as a complimentary lens to the kit 18-55 lens that came with my Rebel XS. I had a budget of around 300 and decided to get this lens based on reviews, and since it has the same warranty as a new one i went with the refurb. Couldnt be happier, for the price it is a great lens, plus it has image stabilization! The main complaint that i noticed, and others as well is the extensive use of plastic. However, this is not Canon's highest line of lenses, and it is [$] so what do you expect? This is still a great lens, and is a compromise between getting a cheap tele lens with no image stabilization, and blowing a wad of cash on an expensive one. For me this is still a hobby, so this was the lens for me and I would buy it again.

This is a great lens for the price. When one review of this product stated this is an excellent lens, the benefit of going to the 70-300 IS USM is not substantial but would strongly recommend upgrading to the 70-200 IS USM (roughly [$]) I knew I was sold. Great lens, even greater price, have had no issues with the re-furb.

Arrived in brand new condition with Canon seal on the box. Lens has fast autofocus and the image stabilization is great feature.

And with the 1 year Adorama warranty, there os no reason NOT to purchase this one over the new Canon one. They have the same warranty if something goes wrong.

The only downside is that the IS motor is a little noisy. Not a complaint but the only minor issue I could think of with this great lens.

This lens is great for travel photography. I've been using it for the last few weeks and am quite pleased. Overall a good lens. Focus is a little sluggish but certainly acceptable. Did notice some flare in a few shots. Also, at 5" it doesn't fit in my present case. Don't worry about being refurb. Except for the small sticker on the lens cap (easily removed) you won't be able to tell the difference. With the money saved, I'll buy a lens hood and new case.

Comments about Canon Canon EF-S 55-250mm f/4-5.6 IS Image Stabilizer - Refurbished:

I bought this lens because it had many positive reviews. I know it is not fast, but it is lightweight and not too big. The zoom range gets you in there, and is great for portraits--giving you that NICE blurred background if you want. For indoor sports, I have already used it for volleyball--but I had to push the camera to 1600 and usually 3200 ISO. This was the only solution if you start at 4.0 and use a shutter speed of 1/320 to freeze action. The results were very good--especially after running through noise reduction plug-in's (photoshop). Other photos were taken outdoors at a zoo and indoors at a zoo conservatory--great close-up shots of birds and macro-like shots when zoomed in tight on flowers, etc. The image stabilization was flawless, but I did not shoot anything less than 1/60 second--so I did not give it a great test. Focus--VERY fast--you could just forget about it and shoot!! Focus?? I was very satisfied with almost all of the shots taken so far...

It takes decent pictures without a tripod thanks to IS, but a tripod definitely helps. Adorama is the best deal. Even though it's refurbished, it looked brand new when I received it.
