Comments about Canon Canon EF-S 60mm f/2.8 Compact Macro AutoFocus Lens - USA:

Very good lense for the price! If you are a serious macro photog then a longer focal length would be a better fix, but for getting your feet wet and doing close up (close to the lense) shot this is perfect.

Comments about Canon Canon EF-S 60mm f/2.8 Compact Macro AutoFocus Lens - USA:

I'm using this to take product shots in a studio with good lighting. It's working very well, giving good detail, good focus, and I'm getting better than expected depth of field. I can't speak to durability as I just got it and I also can't address different light levels and situations. Overall I am quite happy with it at this point.

Comments about Canon Canon EF-S 60mm f/2.8 Compact Macro AutoFocus Lens - USA:

I do a lot of B&W landscapes and bird photography. Many times I have wished that I had a good macro lens with me when I would see a good subject for it. And since my other macro lens is big and heavy I didn't want to carry it with all of my other equipment. This lens is small and light and very sharp so I always have it with me. Now I don't miss those opportunities when they present themselves. I love it.

Best Uses:
Indoors/Low Light, Macro Photography

Comments about Canon Canon EF-S 60mm f/2.8 Compact Macro AutoFocus Lens - USA:

Currently the sharpest lens in my kit. The output from this lens is consistent and beautiful, razor sharp from corner to corner, fast focusing, although it tends to hunt until you take it off auto focus and "tell" the lens exactly what to focus on by either adjusting the working distance of the camera or the manual focusing ring, which is very solid and smooth feeling. Takes superb portraits as well as macro shots all with excellent background blurs thanks to the blade design. In short and outstanding lens, well worth the money.

Comments about Canon Canon EF-S 60mm f/2.8 Compact Macro AutoFocus Lens - USA:

I have had the opportunity to use this lens and Canon's 50 mm Macro for a week and this 60mm far outshines its smaller sibling. Because the 50mm has an extending front element, and uses Canon's standard autofocus system, it takes an age to focus, whining all the way. Most disappointing was that I had understood that the 50mm was a 1:1 macro, and in fact the markings on the front lens barrel indicate this. What I didn't know was that you had to come up with another $250 for a lens extender (with optics) to do this. For the expense of just an additional $100 in the first place this Canon 60mm 2.8 Macro focusses instantly and silently with Canon's ultrasonic focussing right down to a true 1:1. The additional focal length is also a plus, and it is one of the highest rated Canon lenses with a 9.4 Bob Atkins rating (compared to 9.0 for the 50mm).

Comments about Canon Canon EF-S 60mm f/2.8 Compact Macro AutoFocus Lens - USA:

This is the first macro lens I have ever owned. It can crisply focus from infinity down to nearly zero. I selected this lens instead of the 100mm macro because of its smaller size and weight.

I was a little worried about its optical quality, durability, and longevity being an EF-S lens. Happily, I can say the optical quality is very good, and it seems like it is well constructed and should last.

I use this lens with a Canon 40D primarily for photographing plants and an occasional insect. You do need to get up close to get 1:1 magnification, but that isn't a problem for me.

By the way, it also works great as a general purpose 60mm prime lens.

Camera lenses are expensive and that's just a fact of life. This one isn't outrageously expensive, and I'm quite happy with it.

Comments about Canon Canon EF-S 60mm f/2.8 Compact Macro AutoFocus Lens - USA:

This is my first macro lens and I love it. I was debating between the 60mm and the 100mm and chose this one since I'm new to macro photography. So far, the image quality and closeness you get with this lens has been outstanding. Since this lens doesn't have image stabilization, I'd highly recommend a tripod for close ups. Otherwise, it's good as a portrait lens, too.

Comments about Canon Canon EF-S 60mm f/2.8 Compact Macro AutoFocus Lens - USA:

I really enjoy shooting with this lens. Depth of field at its widest aperture is extremely shallow. This does require a little more stability while hand-holding the camera close to a subject. It does occasionally need a little help finding focus in AF mode, but full-time manual and fully-internal focusing elements go a long way to reduce the already minor annoyance.

Comments about Canon Canon EF-S 60mm f/2.8 Compact Macro AutoFocus Lens - USA:

Like a 90mm on film, this is the perfect lens for portraits. If it's too sharp, throw on a soft focus filter or schmear a little vaseline on an old UV.
Small and light, it's a perfect walking around lens. Take shots of people at a little distance, pick off architectural details or macro shots of flowers or whatever. Finally, it's perfect for tack sharp ebay pictures.
Sharper than most wide open, like a razor stopped down just a little.
And finally, it's not very expensive. More functionality per dollar than any other Canon lens. Do yourself a favor and buy one.

Keep in mind I can only give opinions. I bought this lens so I could take pictures for my classroom. I like the macro but that was what I needed so if you don't need macro other lenses would serve as well. I have never been able to shoot the more expensive lens and compare these to my old 35mm equipment. I am very happy with the results. I have to take time in macro or low light to allow it to focus. Some focus issues are solved by making changes to the camera setup. I am shooting on a 30d so this is based on lens use on this camera.

This lens is great for photographing coins and stamps I list on e-bay. The focus is smooth, fast and quiet. The lens is fast enough to take many shots without a tripod(which really slows you down if you're listing alot of items). The focus is sharp and the lens is light weight and easy to handle.I get great detail in my images to really exhibit well the quality and condition of the items I photograph. You really do get very professional results from a modestly priced lens.

Comments about Canon Canon EF-S 60mm f/2.8 Compact Macro AutoFocus Lens - USA:

I've owned this lens for about nine months now. It's fantastic. It's extremely sharp like any good macro lens should be. The 60mm focal length is ideal for APS-sized sensors like the one on my 30D. The f2.8 speed is nice too. I particularly like the fact that you can manually tune the focus point while shooing in autofocus mode.

Comments about Canon Canon EF-S 60mm f/2.8 Compact Macro AutoFocus Lens - USA:

Great lens, and can be used for many purposes. It's on my camera all the time. Focus is fast, but because there is no distance limiter and it's a macro, it has a long way to travel if it can't find a focus lock. Not a problem most of the time though.
