I am an advanced hobbiest, doing mostly landscape and nature photography. I bought this lens used from Adorama. The lens was in great shape [...] The lens is sharp and fast enough for what I do. Definately consider the tripod collar. Mounting the camera to your tripod when using this lens does make it very subseptible to shake. Using the collar cures that 100%. Very happy with the lens and Adorama.

Comments about Canon Canon EF 70-200mm f/4L USM Autofocus Telephoto Zoom Lens with Case & Hood - Gray Market:

As a outdoor photographer I really value the light weight and compact size. You don't want to lug heavy lenses around for week in your backpack. The picture quality is just what I expected.

The L-quality shows in construction, feel and fast focus.

Of course brighter aperture and IS would nice, but for the money and size it is no-brainer.

Comments about Canon Canon EF 70-200mm f/4L USM Autofocus Telephoto Zoom Lens with Case & Hood - Gray Market:

This is a great starter "L" lens, very solidly built and no wobbly plastic parts like kit lenses have. For a lens that costs this much, I wish that it was weather sealed though. Right now, I use this on an eos-3, and with a heavier body like that it is very balanced and easy to hold still. It lens is very easy to handle and is great for general-purpose photography.

Comments about Canon Canon EF 70-200mm f/4L USM Autofocus Telephoto Zoom Lens with Case & Hood - Gray Market:

I had the f/2.8 version of this lens and after trying it on my camera with the battery pack, I decided that it was much too heavy to use on a regular basis. I also felt that the price was very high for my needs.
I learned of the f/4 and decided that it would suit my needs just fine and I was right. I've used it for flashless performance photography and it did a wonderful job. It focuses quickly and does so quite well with my 30D. I noticed that the view through the viewfinder was nice and bright too. I think this was a great choice since I don't make money with my camera.

A tripod mount ring would be nice to have included. It's worth getting so you can rotate the camera instead of your tripod/monopod head.

I have for like 2 weeks or so and it works nice. I also got a Sigma 17-70 MAcro.
It's a little annoying to go photographing outdoors and photograph from a close distance cuz the closest you'll get is at about 1.2 meters (aprox. 4-5 ft) Ohterwise i noticed it's not as vivid as the Sigma, but still i did some pretty nice portraits and studio shots. SO if you know you won't have to get to close to the subject it's a wonderful onjective

I carried out extensive research before opting for this lens. As my requisits entail carrying equipment for long days on extended travels. The weight penalty on the faster and sharper 2.8 s from canon and sigma was very significant. With a rebel xt and battery pack the handling is ideal. Auto focus is very fast, colour rendition excellent. No dilemmas here, value for money is outstanding. If you are torn between this lens and the faster ones try them on the camera body first as i did.I would have absolutely no hesitation in recommending this product

Comments about Canon Canon EF 70-200mm f/4L USM Autofocus Telephoto Zoom Lens with Case & Hood - Gray Market:

Refurbrished Canon "L" lenses like this one are a great opportunity to invest in superior optics. I upgraded from a 'consumer quality' Canon EFS f4.0 70-210mm and was amazed by the sharpness and saturation differences not to mention the Build quality and silent operation (USM)of the "L" series. Refurbrished does not mean inferior, it represents great value to the buyer. The only issue is the Lens Hood design which blocks access to a circular polarizing filter for nature photography but, most Lens Hoods have this problem in 35mm/DSLR optics.

Every picture (on a Canon 10D...i.e. not a full frame) is very sharp with good colors. Everytime I use it I wonder why I don't use it more. The only thing is that with a 1.6x crop factor (10, 20D, 30D,...etc) it's somewhat long for many applications. but, you can photograph people from a distance. That's a big plus if you're into it. Also, it stays focused while you change the zoom length.

Comments about Canon Canon EF 70-200mm f/4L USM Autofocus Telephoto Zoom Lens with Case & Hood - Gray Market:

I got this product about 5 months ago and since have been very satisfied with it. I got it as a gernal purpose medium telephoto lens for shooting nature, sports, and some wildlife. My camera body is a Canon EOS 30D, which has a 1.6x crop factor.I was torn between this lens and the 70-300 IS (Image Stabilization). I liked the IS, but i appreciated the extra 2/3 stop at 200 and the better image quality of the 70-200 f/4. This lens is sharp wide open and even sharper when stopped down. vinietting is not an issue on an APS-c DSLR. Build quality is great, especially for the price. All controls are smooth, the lens itself feels solid, and even the tiny switches have a saitisfying solidity to them. AF is the lightning quick ring type USM, and the only sound emited from the lens is a slight noise of shifting glass elements. You can also manually focus at any time, which in certain time critical scenes can be a life saver. The only negative of this lens is the fact that it does not go to F/2.8. when shooting sports that extra stop would have often kept me in the ISO 400 range rather than having to go up to 800. Even so, for the price i cant complain. If you are trying to decide between the 70-300 IS or the 700-200 F/4 L I hope this will help you decide. If you are a beginner to intermidiate photographer, this includes people who havn't quite yet made it away from the automatic mode and scene modes, id recomend the 70-300 IS. Its a very good lens and the IS will save you, especially as you start moving into the program Aperture, shutter, and manual modes. the extra reach (since it goes to 300) comes in handy as well. If you are an advanced photographer who is looking for quality above all else, go with the 70-200 F/4. While at times you may wish you had IS, the faster autofocus, better build quality, and better image quality of the 70-200 F/4 L will more than make up for it. In conclusion, i highly recomend this lens. [...]

Comments about Canon Canon EF 70-200mm f/4L USM Autofocus Telephoto Zoom Lens with Case & Hood - Gray Market:

I love my 70-200/4L. It is sharp, light, and represents excellent value for money. The build quality is superb, the lens does not extends when zooming or focusing nor does the front element rotate. The only thing this lens lacks is IS and Canon recently released an IS version.

If you need fast shutter speeds for action shots in low light then you might want to consider the 2.8 version. The disadvantage is the increase in weight.

Comments about Canon Canon EF 70-200mm f/4L USM Autofocus Telephoto Zoom Lens with Case & Hood - Gray Market:

For the price this is a great lens. This is my prime lens. I have photographed alot of shots at 70mm and most people think I used a 50mm or even a wide lens. And I have used this to get a few birds such as seagulls very close up. I bought this around Nobember 2006 and I am still using it. This lens is great to get shy or wild animals, candid shots, certain sports such as cross country and potraits. However if you have extra money I suggest getting it's bigger brother the IS that can open up to 2.8 I do plan on buying the IS version once I am out of college or have enough money before then. The tripod adapter is somewhat of a let down because it is $[...] US just for one adapter ! However if you have a heavy tripod you can get away without the adapter. Really the only two major cons are the fact is not IS and the tripod adapter is so expensive. The fact is can only go to 4 is not that big of a deal to me but if you work in alot of low light areas then it may. To conclude it is a great lens and I intend to buy it's bigger brother the 70-200 F2.8 IS one day. If you do not have alot of money but can afford lens around 300-650 dollars this is a great lens.

Comments about Canon Canon EF 70-200mm f/4L USM Autofocus Telephoto Zoom Lens with Case & Hood - Gray Market:

As far as optics and operation goes this lens is right up there with the best of them. I'm fairly hard on my equipment but this has easily outlasted my 300d camera and my 50mm f/1.8 and 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6 lenses. The main/only drawbacks are those you could probably guess for yourself. Firstly, f/4 is perhaps a bit too slow for a 200mm lens and becomes somewhat limiting in darker situations. Secondly its big and white and hence draws attention. This is often not good as it can make your subject self-conscious and attract attention of theives etc. Thirdly it's a big and heavy sucker and finally it's not exactly cheap. Apart from that its a bloody good piece of kit.

Comments about Canon Canon EF 70-200mm f/4L USM Autofocus Telephoto Zoom Lens with Case & Hood - Gray Market:

The lens is worth every penny that I paid for it. The lens is a little heavy but definitely manageable for hand held shoting. If your intended used is outside during the day the lens will produce the best pictures you have ever seen, look no further. If you’re going to shoot indoors or at night without using a tripod you will need to up the ISO setting to 800 and some times up to 1600 to prevent motion blur, I have the Cannon Digtal Reble XT. I would recommend looking at the f 4.0 IS or the 2.8F version of this lens if you will be taking alot of shoots indoors or night shots. I will eventually buy the 2.8 IS version of this lens but will still keep this lens for shooting outside because of the weight factor.

Comments about Canon Canon EF 70-200mm f/4L USM Autofocus Telephoto Zoom Lens with Case & Hood - Gray Market:

I purchased this lens a couple of years ago for my Canon 10D. As soon as I bought it I had back focusing issues with my camera. I tried a couple of these lens and all of them made my 10D back focus. I had to send my brand new lens and 10D into canon to fix. My 10D was over a year old so I had to pay $[...] to fix the problem. After I got my camera back from Canon the focusing has be dead on and the sharpness is amazing. This lens is sharp even wide open at F4.I have 3 Canon L lenses and this is by far my favorite. This lens is well balanced and easy to hand hold. It also doesn't kill your neck after a day of shooting like it's big brother the 70-200 f2.8.

Comments about Canon Canon EF 70-200mm f/4L USM Autofocus Telephoto Zoom Lens with Case & Hood - Gray Market:

Using this lens with a Canon 20D. Never have any problem with higher L glass quality. Perfect complement to my Canon EF-S 17-85MM f4-5.6 IS USM (both use 67mm filter size). I am now considering upgrading to the new version of this lens with IS, even though that one costs ~2x and the trade-in hassle.

Comments about Canon Canon EF 70-200mm f/4L USM Autofocus Telephoto Zoom Lens with Case & Hood - Gray Market:

Very sharp lens and nice zoom range. Fast focusing. However any lens with that focal lenght does need to be used from a monopod or tripod. Why not include the tripod mount with the lens but make it an (expensive) option? In a way it is like selling a car without doors. Just a stupid ploy by the marketing people to make the lens appear cheaper.

Comments about Canon Canon EF 70-200mm f/4L USM Autofocus Telephoto Zoom Lens with Case & Hood - Gray Market:

This is a great lens - not too heavy or pricey. Quality of the pictures it takes are top notch - contrasty & sharp as a tack.

It is cheaper & lighter than it's IS or f/2.8 brothers & I use it extensively for the kid's football.

Comments about Canon Canon EF 70-200mm f/4L USM Autofocus Telephoto Zoom Lens with Case & Hood - Gray Market:

Probably the best value in a midrange zoom in Canon's arsenal. It's tack sharp, lightweight and reasonably priced for an "L" series lens. The rugged build, quick, quiet and accurate auto-focus and superior optics truly make it a real bargain and a fun lens to use. One word of caution: Canon's "L" series lenses will quickly spoil you and make you want to spend lots of money for more of them. Not to worry, it'll be money well spent.

Amazing lens, not as fast as the 2.8 but photo quality is just as good.. will never go back to "cheap" lenses again L(luxury) is the only way to go.
