Comments about Canon Canon EF 70-300mm f/4-5.6 IS USM Autofocus Telephoto Zoom Lens - Refurbished by Canon U.S.A.:

I spent a long time researching which telephoto to buy, and my wish list was long. Apart from the optics, crucial considerations were weight and price. I've been using the lens for a couple of months now and it's doing everything I want it to do...well - especially at the short end. I've been particularly pleased with the results of panning and colour/sharpness of some macro shots but I would've liked a shorter focussing distance to get close-in. I was surprised with the condition of the lens out of the box - it felt like brand new. I wouldn't hesitate buying another Canon refurbished product.

I have 2 camera bags--one for my 7D and one for my T1i. The T1i is used for my more rugged outdoor adventures, and I carry the 70-300mm in this bag. I used to have the older model 75-300, but I like this lens much better, especially because it has cured the "chromatic abberation"
problem. I bought it as a"refurbished" lens and it appears to be brand new.

Comments about Canon Canon EF 70-300mm f/4-5.6 IS USM Autofocus Telephoto Zoom Lens - Refurbished by Canon U.S.A.:

I recently purchased a Canon T2i and a few lenses. After deciding to upgrade my Canon 75-300 lens, I did some research on this lens and all the reviews were 5 star. I watched a few on [...] and they were all going for around $450. I found a refurbished one at Adorama for the same price and all the reviews were positive. So I took a chance and purchased one. The lens was flawless and performed as good as a new one. I have since taken several thousand photos with this lens and I am totally satisfied. The focus is sharp and the contrast is great as well. I live in the Texas Hill Country and most of my photos are of birds. I highly recommend this lens.

I bought this lens to have something lightweight for hiking, and it fits the bill for that purpose. In bright light, I've made some nice shots with this lens, but of all my lens arsenal, this is the one I use the least. It somehow just doesn't have the "magic" that some of my other lenses have. Great budget choice for a small, lightweight telephoto.

I tried the same lens (but new) that my friend had before decided to buy this one. Image quality was pretty good. Hard to tell any difference from the 70-200mm f4L.

After I got this lens, I took some test pictures. They looked very fuzzy - the 70-200mm looked a lot better. So I think I got a bad copy (maybe that was why it was returned by its previous owner?). So ended up returning it.

Comments about Canon Canon EF 70-300mm f/4-5.6 IS USM Autofocus Telephoto Zoom Lens - Refurbished by Canon U.S.A.:

I wanted to upgrade from my low-end zoom (Canon 55-250mm), but couldn't really afford an L series, so I was trying to decide between the Tamron 70-300 Di VC USD and this lens. I did tons of reading on both lenses and was really wanting the Tamron, but several reports of quality control issues made me hesitant. I found this refurbished Canon lens on Adorama for a little more money than the Tamron and decided to give it a try after reading tons of glowing reviews on it. I'm really glad I did! I was worried about buying a refurbished lens, but once I received it, those concerns went out the window. It was in absolutely perfect condition and functions flawlessly. The image quality is beautiful and the auto-focus is fast and quiet; it's definitely a HUGE improvement over my cheaper Canon zoom. All in all, I am very impressed with this lens and have taken some great photographs with it. The only drawback to the lens is its weight, but to be honest, I kind of like the fact it's a little heavy. The weight makes me feel like it's a quality product and I don't mind carrying it around. [...]If you're on the fence about buying this lens...just buy it! Plus, buy it refurbished and save considerably over a new one. You can't tell it from a new one at all and it works perfectly.I'm not a great photographer by any means, but I think the attached photo is a good example of the clarity and sharpness of this lens at nearly full zoom. The lighting conditions weren't great (cloudy and overcast), but I was still able to use a faster shutter speed and obtain a tack sharp image. I love this lens and can't wait for the chance to use it in better light.

This was a Canon refurbished lens. To me a great price, looked and operated just as new and would not hesitate to go the refurbished route again. Reasonably sharp, good contrast, autofocus seems to be dead on. While not L lens image quality still quite good for the price and more than adequite for the typical uses it will have. Was sharper than the 18-85 USM lens I had (which I promply sold).

Auto focus is reasonably fast and accurate. The lens is a bit slow, but that was expected and was the only reason I didn't rate it a 5. I bought this refurbished and it looked and functioned as brand new. This is not a an L lens, but for the money, it's a great telephoto lens, and with IS, a complement to the rest of a kit. Highly recommended.

Comments about Canon Canon EF 70-300mm f/4-5.6 IS USM Autofocus Telephoto Zoom Lens - Refurbished by Canon U.S.A.:

It would be unfair apply my comments to all lenses of this model type. It was a refurbished lens and didn't get properly inspected at Canon. It should never have left Canon's repair facility.

This model lens would be good for bright daylight action. Indoors and heavily clouded days or twilight would not work well for moving objects. If you want to shoot action indoors and non daylight you should consider the $1600 model or higher. It has faster glass (lets more light through) Unless a little blur or grainy dark indoor photos are not a problem for you.
I plan to get this same lens again, but I will get a new one, not refurbished. I don't need the high price lens.

Comments about Canon Canon EF 70-300mm f/4-5.6 IS USM Autofocus Telephoto Zoom Lens - Refurbished by Canon U.S.A.:

I shoot mostly outdoors. Wildlife, sports and closeup landscape. I had a Rebel XT with the Kit Lenses (18-55mm II and 75-300mm III) and upgraded to the Rebel T2i. With the capabilities of the T2i I decided not to get the kit lenses and spend a little more for a telephoto zoom lens. Not being able to afford or justify the expense of a L-series lens, I decided on the Canon EF 70-300mm f/4-5.6 IS USM lens. And after reading positive reviews on the refurbished ones, I decided to go with one and save about $70.00. I'm glad I did! The Lens is as new. The Lens itself is perfect for what I use it for. A bit slow as should be expected, but considerably less expensive than a f/2.8. Focuses fast in ample light situations, and has all the features I require in a lens this size. I will be saving up for the Canon 18-135mm IS Lens to complete my set and will most likely buy it Refurbished also.

As an update to my previous post, I thought I'd attach some photos taken with this lens. Please note that I only have one fairly good eye, and my right side is partially paralyzed from a stroke. I say this because the lens and camera had to do a lot of the focusing work quickly. I was set up on a tripod, and I had prefocused on the birdhouse. I was pleased with the results.

This is a very good quality non-L telephoto lens. It's fairly sharp throughout it's range, although you will need a tripod at the high end despite the IS. I purchased it specifically for the reach, but with the mode 2 function I found myself using it a lot for fast moving wildlife. In mode 2, it does an excellent job a staying sharply focused on a subject, whether it's moving sideways, away from you or towards you. The only shortcoming is that it's focus is significantly slower at the high end of the zoom, and I often find myself switching to manual zoom on those closeups. I've missed a few good shots of fast moving wildlife for that very reason, and is why I gave this lens 4 stars instead of 5.

But this lens has met all of my expectations and has pleasantly surprised me with the image quality I've obtained. An L-series telephoto will give you noticeable improvements in image quality and real world usage, but unless you're a pro on an assignment, this lens delivers more than adequate results.

Comments about Canon Canon EF 70-300mm f/4-5.6 IS USM Autofocus Telephoto Zoom Lens - Refurbished by Canon U.S.A.:

Bought refurbished lehs for the first time, I was pleased to find that the lens I received was just like new, arrived quickly, and was everything I could have expected. I will look for refurbished lenses in the future whenever possible. I only wish the lens' incompatibility with extension tubes was more clearly communicated. An excellent value.

Comments about Canon Canon EF 70-300mm f/4-5.6 IS USM Autofocus Telephoto Zoom Lens - Refurbished by Canon U.S.A.:

I'm really good at digging up the best deals on the internet and this is definitely the best deal you can get for this lens. The lens looks and acts like new in every way except the warranty. It has a good reach on a DSLR, although it's a little too long for portraits. It's great for wildlife and candid shots of people at a distance. The IS is surprisingly noisy (sounds like stirring a can of gravel) compared to my other lenses, but nobody other than the shooter is going to hear it. One thing I'm disappointed about is that since it is refurbished I can't get accidental damage insurance for it from SquareTrade.

Great lens, looked new when it came. Sharp focus.
Only complaint is heavy and slow focus in low light.
Recommend this over the EF-S 55-250mm.

I have been using this lens for just over a month now and have no complaints. Its range is excellent! The lens I purchased is a refurb and it came to me in mint condition. I will definitely purchase a Canon refurb again for my next lens if its available from Adorama!

Comments about Canon Canon EF 70-300mm f/4-5.6 IS USM Autofocus Telephoto Zoom Lens - Refurbished by Canon U.S.A.:

I used the lens to shoot a full moon. It took awhile to focus, hence the slow focus comment (I believe it might be because of low light). However, it is definitely awesome for telephoto/zoom pruposes. Was at the beach and took really great photos of sea lion/ sea gull. Now, I always carry it along whenver we go out.
I would recommend getting this instead of the EF-S 55-250mm.

Comments about Canon Canon EF 70-300mm f/4-5.6 IS USM Autofocus Telephoto Zoom Lens - Refurbished by Canon U.S.A.:

I bought this after a long debate versus the 70-200 F4 L lens. The ultimate reason for buying this lens was the refurb price, the longer zoom and the IS feature. I've used this a few times in the past month and I found it to be well suited to what I was shooting (mostly stills, landscapes and people shots). The light weight nature (compared to an L) of the lens makes it easy to shoot with the IS has come in handy a few times already. Perhaps I'm lucky or the lens is still too new, but I haven't experienced the widely discussed lens creep issue.

I reviewed a number of telephoto lens to use with my 40D. I settled on the Canon 70-300 IS because of quality for price and reviews. After using it for several weeks I am pleased with the results. I will use it primarily for nature and outdoor photography. I chose the refurbished because of the price difference. My lens looks new and works perfectly.[...]

Comments about Canon Canon EF 70-300mm f/4-5.6 IS USM Autofocus Telephoto Zoom Lens - Refurbished by Canon U.S.A.:

I had been bidding on [$] for the same lens and found prices similar to this refurbished model, but most came with no guarantee whatsoever. The condition of the lens is perfect, add to that a 1 year warranty and the huge savings made this absolutely the right decision. Everything about the lens and the resulting photos are excellent. My only negative is that it is a bit heavy and bulky, but that is to be expected with a long range zoom lens. I only wish that I could find more refurbished Canon higher end lenses.

Comments about Canon Canon EF 70-300mm f/4-5.6 IS USM Autofocus Telephoto Zoom Lens - Refurbished by Canon U.S.A.:

This lens is much slower to focus than I was expecting and requires a tripod to get consistently decent shots. Even then I would rate them as just that, decent. Perhaps I have unreasonably high expectations from this lens. I chose it mainly due to its weight since I needed it for week long backpacking trips but I am reconsidering the trade off and will be looking at a L lens.

Comments about Canon Canon EF 70-300mm f/4-5.6 IS USM Autofocus Telephoto Zoom Lens - Refurbished by Canon U.S.A.:

I always considered this lens, but never bought one until recently .. now I wish I bought it years back. from 70-200 .. very good performance, and with a slight stopping down from 200-300 .. very acceptable performance.

for the price, this lens really can't be beat for a 3x zoom and is an excellent backpacking lens where weight is a concern, but you wish a longer lens for subject isolation.

IR notes ..

I've noticed that "near infinity" shots are way off as far as AF .. however closer distance shots are spot on. For IR use, I'd recommend this simply for close / medium telephoto subject isolation, but not as a telephoto. No hotspots were detected.

definately a great "bang for the buck" lens, and if you're on a budget and want something a little better than perhaps a 50-250 IS .. definately recommended.

Bought this lens refurbished. It is basically brand new. I upgraded from a 55-250IS. I find the 70-300 sharper above 135mm then the 55-250. BIG. Feels great in hand. No lens creep. Slight play in barrel but tite enough. Just an awesome piece of glass. Do not be afraid to buy refurbed. I would rather buy refurbished then used.

this is a great lens, you would never know it was refurbished unless you paid for it. it is sharp and accurate, well made, and easy to use. it does some minor irritating things like spinning the focus ring whilst focusing, and requires you to set a switch to overide auto focus... but the good things about this lens make it an excellent buy.
