Comments about Canon Canon EF 75-300mm f/4-5.6 III Autofocus Telephoto Zoom Lens - Refurbished By Canon USA:

First off, I do not own this lens, but my brother does and I've used it extensively to see how it performs. In short, I'm not at all impressed.

The biggest pro of this lens is its long focal range. It can grab pictures of people jet skiing several hundred meters out in the water. If you need reach, you're not going to get a comparable focal range for under $500 from Canon.

As for the cons, this lens has massive artifacts at 300mm. Chromatic abberation and distortions were apparent at that length. Additionally, its body feels very cheap, and the autofocus is of course loud and slow (not being a USM lens). At the very least, for a lens with a focal point of 300mm, Canon needs to add on IS.

For a zoom lens, I'd prefer my own 28-135mm f/3.5-5.6 IS USM over this lens.

Comments about Canon Canon EF 75-300mm f/4-5.6 III Autofocus Telephoto Zoom Lens - Refurbished By Canon USA:

The refurbished lens is as good as the brand new lens in the fancy box. No problem there. My recommendation is to buy the IS lens if you can afford it. I am an experienced photogragher and do I have a steady-hand, but I will be using my tripod more with this lens. I use the lens on my Canon T1i. The camera is light-weight and the lens isn't, it is harder to hold it steady. I'll be buying IS lens from now on. I wouldn't recommend it to a friend - I'd tell them to borrow mine and then decide for themselves.

Comments about Canon Canon EF 75-300mm f/4-5.6 III Autofocus Telephoto Zoom Lens - Refurbished By Canon USA:

Provides great range when need pictures of stage events. The only real con that I have found is the auto-focus focuses at an unpredictable speed. Sometimes it takes forever, and other times it snaps in focus immediately. (Note, manual focus still works great)

Comments about Canon Canon EF 75-300mm f/4-5.6 III Autofocus Telephoto Zoom Lens - Refurbished By Canon USA:

This lens worked OK until one of the elements came loose inside. I brought it to Canon and they said it would not be worth repairing. It is now a paperweight. Construction is typical of Canon's lower grade lenses - plastic, lightweight, and cheap. If you are looking for a quality lens, this is not the one you want. If you need a cheap throw-away, it might be worth considering.

Comments about Canon Canon EF 75-300mm f/4-5.6 III Autofocus Telephoto Zoom Lens - Refurbished By Canon USA:

I like this lens for general range, but my objective with this particular lens was to explore macro-photography. It will not zoom up as close as I would like it. I believe it will only zoom as close as 4 to 5 feet away and only gives a 1 to 1 ratio at that distance from the subject. Other than that I like the lens and feel I can get away with what Im trying to accomplish in a photograph.

Not a bad lens for starters. Looking to upgrade very soon myself, but if you want to get a feel for a telephoto zoom lens, but are on a tight budget, this is the lens to buy.

Comments about Canon Canon EF 75-300mm f/4-5.6 III Autofocus Telephoto Zoom Lens - Refurbished By Canon USA:

I used it to shoot hawks in flight on manual focus, got good shots. If it is raised much above horizontal, focus and zoom slip. Dropped twice on concrete and only filter ring harmed. did not contribute to the looseness, was already loose when dropped. Plastic feels light, cheap, and junky. Too bad the FD lenses don't fit the camera.
