Comments about Canon Canon EF 85mm f/1.2L II USM AutoFocus Telephoto Lens - USA:

I've owned this lens for 2 months now and I am continually amazed at the pictures I can produce with it. Weddings and portraits are my thing and this lens works magic. Seriously, beautiful dreamy bokeh, great color and contrast, sharp to the corners (at 1.8 and above), and crazy low-light ability. Hands down, my favorite attribute about this lens is the creamy bokeh you can create at 1.2. This lens can take your work to the next level. You either live or die at an aperture of 1.2. If you know what you are doing you can create some stunning images, if not you will end up paying a lot of money for blurry images. It's heavy, slower auto focus, and the rear glass element is flush with the mount so changing lenses takes much precaution.

I love this lens. Almost a must-have for weddings and portraits.

Comments about Canon Canon EF 85mm f/1.2L II USM AutoFocus Telephoto Lens - USA:

I never thought much about prime lenses until I saw what this lens can do. Nothing short of amazing in the right hands. Stunning images. If you are the 95% looking for bang for the buck, don't bother, this lens is expensive. If you are the 5% that does not want to compromise at all, demands perfection, will do anything for the "shot", sign up, and you won't ever look back. I will sell every other lens I own, before I sell this one. All my other lenses, are L lenses. And all this from a guy who couldn't care less about a prime before using this lens.

Amazing Lens -- Just very slow AF
By Mike WiacekVerified Purchaser from Santa Clara, CA on 1/11/2010
Pros:
Consistent Output, Durable, Sharp Focus, Strong Construction
Cons:
Slow Focus
Best Uses:
Portraits
Describe Yourself:
Photo Enthusiast
Bottom Line:
Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

Comments about Canon Canon EF 85mm f/1.2L II USM AutoFocus Telephoto Lens - USA:

This lens is perfect in nearly every way save 2. It's heavy, but for an f/1.2 lens that's to be expected and I don't really hold it against this lens. My main gripe is that it has a fairly slow AF. For the type of candid shooting I tend to like, the slow AF made it unusable. If on the other hand I had people posing, the lens would be perfect. It's soft creamy bokeh is legendary and it's a joy to look at the amazingly sharp photos this lens can deliver. Just be careful with the slow AF.

Comments about Canon Canon EF 85mm f/1.2L II USM AutoFocus Telephoto Lens - USA:

Great lens! Good image quality and nice blurrrrr….:) However the lens has some back-front focusing issues. I have a it on a Canon 5D and sometimes pictures are totally out of focus. My Canon 28-70 or 17-40 never had this kind of problem...Any suggestion? Furthermore, it is a heavy lens.I mainly use it for wedding photography. [@] If you want to see samples.

Comments about Canon Canon EF 85mm f/1.2L II USM AutoFocus Telephoto Lens - USA:

Its like a tank... expensive, heavy, and slow to focus. But hit the trigger and watch the magic happen. Its a work-out using this len but the end product is fantastic. The more I use it the sweeter it gets. The most fun yet has been photographing old cars and isolating points of interest and letting everything a 6 inches behind or ahead disolve.

Comments about Canon Canon EF 85mm f/1.2L II USM AutoFocus Telephoto Lens - USA:

LOVE this lens! I had been using my 70-200 L f/2.8 as my main telephoto/portrait lens but it is bulky and when photographing children it's difficult to move fast with that lens. I got the 85 f/1.2 to fill in for that part of my job. It does it's job and more. I just love the soft focus this lens creates and it's very fast when focusing on moving children (and trust me, children MOVE! :) It's great for my wedding photography as well. I'm a photojournalist so I need to move quickly and this lens allows me to do that.

Comments about Canon Canon EF 85mm f/1.2L II USM AutoFocus Telephoto Lens - USA:

It's amazing lens, I using for wedding in low light with 1D MkII and it's works very well but heavy both body and lens. If you can manual focus in low light, this lens give you the best result. Only thing I don't like is difficult to attach to the body, In low light it's hard to see the red dot in some angle. Attach lens carefully. Then enjoy the new world of the portrait.

Comments about Canon Canon EF 85mm f/1.2L II USM AutoFocus Telephoto Lens - USA:

It's worth the price I paid. Amazing performance for near and defined subjects, like those in portraits, blurs everything except your subject. Not suitable for landscapes, or so.

Comments about Canon Canon EF 85mm f/1.2L II USM AutoFocus Telephoto Lens - USA:

This is the navana of portrait lens - when you look at the camera it is all lens - short fat fast and solid (note that the 50mm is great too - but this is my favourite by far). No doubt it is expensive - but I've rented and borrowed it enough to know I want my own.
