This lens is exactly what I needed to round out my collection! Everything I could say about it would only be repeating the words of better photographers, so I'll digress. It's great glass.

Comments about Nikon Nikon 10mm - 24mm f/3.5/4.5G ED-IF AF-S DX Autofocus Zoom Lens for Digital SLR Cameras, Nikon U.S.A. Warranty:
I have a Nikon 14mm-24mm lens and a D700 full frame camera. I obviously do not use this DX lens. However, my daughter has a Nikon D80 DX sensor camera and this is her favorite lens.
She has always been fascinated by how dramatic the photos are that I take with my ultra wide lens and has badgered me nonstop to get her one for her DX camera.
The lens is superb from sharpness, lack of color fringing, etc. It easily ranks up there with the best from Nikon.
The lens does have a healthy amount of barrel distortion at 10mm. The caveat is...all ultra wides are going to have barrel distortion at the wide end. Uncorrected, it only shows if you are shooting perfectly straight lines (architecture). Even then, its nothing that can't be easily taken out in Lightroom 3 or Photoshop CS5 with the lens correction filter (actually any software with some level of auto or manual lens correction can do it).
That is assuming that you can find the barrel distortion. Ultra wides have such a dramatic wide angle perspective distortion (dramatic as in adds drama to your photos) that barrel distortion is not as easy as you think it is to find in most super wide photos.
My daughter loves it. I have shot her camera with this lens and I am very happy with it. It is what I have come to expect from Nikon glass and I do not spend this type of money, especially for other people (don't tell my daughter I said that), and not expect the best.
There are plenty of tutorials on the net suggesting how to shoot with a ultra wide angle lens. Its best use is not for "big scene-getting it all in photography". It is wonderful for isolating a nearby subject from the background and making the subject jump off the print and the ultra wide angle distortion with the right shots is stunningly dramatic.
Of course there is also the depth of field bonus you get with this or any ultra wide. This 10mm lens stopped way down gives you a depth of field from about a foot to the planet Pluto.
My ultra wide lens was the last lens I bought and I hesitated buying this one for my daughter. An ultra wide struck me as being so specialized that the expense would not justify the use. I was very wrong. An ultra wide opens up a very big avenue for creativity. Both my daughter and I have become ultra wide junkies.
Like all things Nikon, the 10mm-24mm lens is pricey. I have no doubt that there are comparable cheaper lenses on the market that may be good enough, however, image quality is always my 1st criteria and this lens didn't disappoint me.

Comments about Nikon Nikon 10mm - 24mm f/3.5/4.5G ED-IF AF-S DX Autofocus Zoom Lens for Digital SLR Cameras, Nikon U.S.A. Warranty:
This wide angle lens is an invaluable tool for the enthusiast who needs to shoot indoors (such as for real estate listings, or decorators), or for sweeping landscape shots. It is also very powerful in that it can allow you to get CLOSE and shift perspective in ways that are simply impossible for a standard lens.
I use it as part of a three Nikkor lens kit for my D7000, the other two are the 35mm f 1/1.8 prime and the 28-300mm zoom. (My walkaround lens is the 18-200mm zoom).
This lens takes some practice to use with skill--if you aren't used to the perspective changes within a true ultra-wide lens, it can be a little daunting. That said, it is one of the tools that allows shots that are simply impossible otherwise. I don't like it as a walkaround lens, simply because the perspective is not always compatible with my photographic goals, but if I am going anywhere that I EXPECT to take pictures, I usually carry it (thereby allowing me to swap my 18-200 for the 28-300, which gives better telephoto range but simply doesn't go wide enough on DX format to be a walkaround by itself).

Outstanding lens! A friend had recently let me use his Tamaron 10-24 lens telling me "Dont spend the extra money they are the exact same thing"... Wow was he wrong!! This puts out a much sharper image every time! Worth every extra penny and Adorama has the best deal!

Comments about Nikon Nikon 10mm - 24mm f/3.5/4.5G ED-IF AF-S DX Autofocus Zoom Lens for Digital SLR Cameras, Nikon U.S.A. Warranty:
Compared to the 18-55 kit lens, this one is much wider and faster responding. Wide angle photography adds a-whole-new element to picture taking - and this is the one to get for DX bodies!

Excellent!!! I have been using it since it came out and have no regrets. It may not be as fast as the Tokina 11-16 f2.8, but athe zoom range is more usefull and you just loose very little speed. There is a big difference between 12mm. 11mm and 10mm. Expend the extra money and get this one. I have it set on 10mm, so when it comes out of the bag it is ready to go. AF-S is accurate and fast!!! AF override very useful. Way to go Nikon! It costs a lot, but it is worth it! If you are looking for a wide lens, just get this one.

It's to early to give it a final blessing, but what I have done with it so far I am very happy. This is the lens I needed to fill out the bag.

I usually buy full sized, constant aperture glass, but couldn't on short notice with a job looming. This lens rocks, I'm very satisfied with it. It's not exactly internal focusing, but with about an inch of travel, it's barely noticeable.

I am really impressed by the additional depth this lens gives to any indoor shot. However, I am still not sure about how tough it is, but it sure does not feel as hardy as its predecessor - the 12-24 mm nikkor lens. The other reviews I read advised me to be careful with it. I guess you pay for what you get.

Comments about Nikon Nikon 10mm - 24mm f/3.5/4.5G ED-IF AF-S DX Autofocus Zoom Lens for Digital SLR Cameras, Nikon U.S.A. Warranty:
My first experience with an ultrawide and I must admit I am still learning how to use it. I am impressed with how close you can get to your subject and still get all you want in the photo. Great for landscapes, but I really focus on the close ups. A fair amount of distortion at 10mm, not more than I expected, and correctible in post processing.
I debated for months between this one and the 12-24 and finally decided on the 10. I'm glad I did. You can literally get inches from your subject.
If you are looking for an ultrawide, I definitely recommend it.

I purchased this lens for interior architectural images. It didn't disappoint me. Coupled to my D2X and with appropriate extenal lighting, it provides very nice wide shots of home interiors.

Wide. Sharp. Fast. And wide. Need I say more? Same build as 12-24 but sharper at the corners wide open. Zoom, however, is not internal.

Comments about Nikon Nikon 10mm - 24mm f/3.5/4.5G ED-IF AF-S DX Autofocus Zoom Lens for Digital SLR Cameras, Nikon U.S.A. Warranty:
Nikon hit a grand slam with this one. I am so glad I got this instead of the 10mm fisheye which can deliver provocative images but has creative and practical limitations. The samples from my first shoot with this gem are actually smaller files than the originals. A bit pricey but worth it if you are looking to expand your capabilities into wider angles.

Comments about Nikon Nikon 10mm - 24mm f/3.5/4.5G ED-IF AF-S DX Autofocus Zoom Lens for Digital SLR Cameras, Nikon U.S.A. Warranty:
This lens is tremendous - sharp, quick to focus (not that focus matters with the depth of field at these speeds and focal lengths), and a perfect wide angle range - 15-36 equivalent. I haven't run lens tests on this, but the far corners are sharp enough to show 3/4 inch metal mesh in the corners at 10mm, 3 feet from the camera.
It doesn't seem to have the eye popping contrast of some lenses I've worked with (Zeiss 21mm), but the combination of size, zoom range and resolution, plus the ability to use filters for protection and enhancement w/o vignetting make this lens indispensable.
I did not discuss strength and ruggedness - too early to tell, although it seems like it will last. The build quality is perfect.
